I didnt know and there was no bios for the characters in 1+2. Who did bother to look up any of the new skater characters?, not me, they all looked generic and boring. But now with the bios in 3+4 that pooner stand out like a sore thumb, lmao. I did a search and found this.

I can see why THPS4 wasn’t remade one to one, but they could’ve went around it a bit better. That two minute limit is too tight given the size of those levels.

So I've been playing 3+4 over the past day and oh my god is it a massive fucking downgrade:

• THPS4 levels condensed into 2 minute runs, which on paper MIGHT have been fun but 90% of the goals are just finding a bunch of collectables in this massive empty space because the levels aren't actually designed for this.
• Which reminds me, Carnival and Chicago have been cut entirely from THPS4 and replaced with two shitty levels.
• The soundtrack is 50% dogshit and the first track you hear in the entire game is some genuinely dogshit hiphop. I love me some rap and hip hop, but bad hiphop just grates like nails on a chalkboard.
• Bikini Girls on the cruise ship have been turned into random skaters to impress, so you can't identify who the fuck you're supposed to be tricking in front of, plus they're genuinely retarded and if you trick with their back to you then you don't get the praise.
• Tranny skater included and their bio is literally "the first transgender skater in the tony hawk's franchise"
• Remember how THPS3 had the silkiest most responsive inputs you'll ever play in a Tony Hawk's game? Yeah, now it's weirdly floaty and bouncy and combos will be absolutely wrecked by a revert or manual simply not registering at all.

I mean the only pluses of the game so far are that it's nice to just free skate around the updated levels of yore and loading levels isn't an exercise in twiddling your thumbs but this is such a shitty fucking game. The snappiness of the THPS 1+2 remaster is downgraded so badly and combos are broken because of it.

Maybe this is just an autistic overreaction, but the first impressions after playing 1+2 were "Man, they really nailed the feel of the old games, the soundtrack is 90% there and the new tracks are great" as I was grinning from ear to ear. This on the other hand is just straight trash.

Oh wait, there's more:

• No Private Carrera
• No Daisy from THPS4
• No Demoness
• In fact no hot women in general, the closest you can get to one is in the create a skater.
• No pissing dude from Canada
• No blood
• No Ollie the Magic Bum
• Car chase in San Fran which had gangbangers shooting at cops is now replaced by some woman who doesn't even fall to her doom.
• To unlock specific skateboards for each character you have to complete the game THREE TIMES.

All of the fucking scenery from the background that enhanced the gameplay somewhat is fucking gone. No humour, just some vanilla game with all the edge rounded off.

Here’s a video comparing the original titles with the 3+4 remake. It does touch on the missing crude humor, design changes and omitted soundtrack. It looks good, but feels sanitized compared to the original.

How do you license a level from a game? Chicago being from a BMX game doesn’t make sense to omit.

Don't forget that they also got rid of the Neversoft Girls in the Cruise Ship level and they're not based off of any real women.

What was the excuse for removing the Chicago and Carnival levels from the game, though? What would have been so difficult about bringing those back? I'm sure the majority of people are buying these releases for nostalgic reasons and would have preferred the old levels instead of the developers adding in new levels that no one asked for.

Modern remasters/remakes have been notoriously censored to remove any sort of female sexuality for years now, skateboarding games or not. Everything from Capcom Fighting Collection 2 to even M-rated games like Mass Effect Legendary Edition have been censored to remove sexual content that might appeal to a straight man. If you point out any of this woke censorship then you will be accused of being a "gooner"... but of course, literal bear sex in Baldur's Gate 3 is applauded by the gaming media.

So played a bit more with a different controller and either they've patched it slightly or my other two controllers have input issues because everything is running significantly smoother than a few days ago. Noticing less minor frame drops too so wondering if that's what's causing the input errors in combos as it throws the timing off.

Overall I'm enjoying it a lot more even though there is that faint sheen of DEI smeared on top of it, but it's still not the upgrade that 1+2 was.

I will say this, by having extra hard goals to appeal to the hardcore skater gamers, they've fundamentally missed what made Tony Hawk's 3 so great. Yes it was on paper the easiest game in the franchise but it also had an incredible amount of content. The goal of the game wasn't to grind (heh) it was to smash out an "all goals completed" run in about 20 minutes so you unlocked a completely new character or level. It was a skateboarding game power fantasy, where by doing the same goals over and over and over you were slowly cutting down your personal best times, you were slowly getting slightly better combos, you were starting to discover more efficient lines that linked more goals together. It was fucking cool.

It's why I fucking hate Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, it was the polar opposite of that. It was about a billion pointless goals that ranged from piss easy "go from A to B" to ludicrously unfair goals (Kona and the Shipyard bring Vietnam levels of PTSD) with the idea of slowly completing the game goal by goal. This goal pissing you off? Just play about in another level for a while until you try again. In 1-3 NO goal was ridiculous enough to require going back to a level with higher stats (ok, the Downtown level in THPS1 comes close simply because the goals are fucking bullshit), all could have every goal easily completed before you touch the next level.

Tony Hawk's 1-3 are primarily arcade games, that's the fun of them. You have two minutes to knock out an obscene high score and hit as many goals as possible and it's so satisfying to watch it all come together. 4 is a fucking slog. Were the THPS4 levels reimagined while also including new 2 minute timer goals then I'd probably be happier with it, instead they just picked some of the worst goals from THPS4 and said "Go nuts... also we've cut Chicago and Carnival and Zoo is now a competition level"

But going back to the content thing with Tony Hawk's 3, there's fuck all extra content in 3+4. There's like 5 secret skaters and two are locked behind the Premium Edition version. There's a billion challenges but they unlock fuck all bar a new board or a helmet (who the fuck wears a helmet in my power fantasy skateboarding game?).

It's the most bare bones remake that manages to piss off THPS3 fans AND THPS4 fans. Yes I'm fucking mad. THPS3 is the greatest game of all time and THIS is nowhere near that.

Wait, didn't Neversoft create the Guitar Hero games after III: Legends of Rock? Oh, right, Iron Galaxy created this remake. Still, this shows how sanitized entertainment has turned lately. No scantily clad women, no playful jabs, no crude humor that the series and culture is known for.
