The one thing I love about Modern films is how they depict thoroughly based moments in history verbatim, but ham it up and try and present the people uttering these historical lines as unhinged lunatics/evil.
Reminds me of the Red Skull speech in modern Marvel comics that remains the single best meme about this phenomenon.
The people pushing this media views traditionalism as inherently evil. So putting the traditionalist argument in the guise of their villains and/or crazy people makes them think that it somehow diminishes the argument. That they can simply ignore what is being SAID and not deign it with a response, simply by categorizing it as evil or insane.
Which is why we are now where we are. What Napoleon meant by saying he found the Crown of France in the gutter and the people themselves put it on his head was that the excesses of the French Revolution had diminished the nation itself, to the point that ANYONE with ANY vision could see the authority of the State lying in the gutter. Which lets not forget, gutters in that time period were where people took shits. Napoleon said "I saw the authority of the State literally being shat on, and I took this shit encrusted thing in my hands, and the people put it on my head!"
Now, America is not a Monarchy, but the metaphorical Crown exists for all nations no matter the structure of their government. For years now the Crown of the American nation has been thrown in the gutter and shat on. A racist country. With no culture. No history. And no native people, unless they happen to be feather Indians. Trump reached into the gutter just like Napoleon and pulled that crown out and we the people put it on his head.
It is a dangerous thing that has been done. Both for the American people and for Trump himself. Crowns are things of enormous weight and routinely crush the men who try and wear them. And among all the available options in the world, the Crown of the American nation is probably the most dangerous. For the man who tries and wear it, and the people subject to it.
