Having played a decent amount of Ninja Gaiden Black 2 now, I take back what I said before. The difficulty is lowered a lot more than I thought, and between chat handholding and some health item spam on the bosses Phil could get though Path of the Acolyte (the default normal difficulty) without much trouble. There'd be some whining on occasion but wouldn't be a rage quitter.
Maybe they changed it since vanilla (I only played the hell out of the original 360 release) but Acolyte was always considered easy mode with Warrior being "normal". You'd get rewarded with Mentor and Master Ninja (Hard/Very Hard) after beating each one. If he plays Acolyte that ain't even gonna be worth watching

Yeah, I know some big boomer shooter fans and they liked Doom 2016 but not Eternal because the latter apparently catered too much to the speedrunner crowd or some shit when it came to gameplay. I don't know how true that is given that I haven't played either game.
I am gonna indulge a little autism, if you don't mind.

But yeah, Eternal gets very Rock Paper Scissory. And that put off a lot of people. Like personally my favorite thing about Doom has always been making situations work. I've punched my way through rooms just to save the ammo. Or pistol'ed fights because I made poor uses of my ammo. I think the phrase is emergent gameplay. Eternal really just kind of stuffs that. It doesn't completely kibosh it, but it makes it feel really bad. Because DOOM might be the king of Emergent Gameplay. But Eternal makes certain weapons so piddly against some targets. Where as like even a pistol can shake what anything short of a boss in DOOM. Hope that makes sense.

To tie this into Phil. I want you to imagine him even trying to talk about games on even this surface ass level. Fifteen year legacy amirite

I'll add my two cents as well.

With the gameplay additions and changes in Eternal, primarily the changes to ammo caps and lower ammo pickups, I found that Eternal turned into a, to paraphrase DSP, 'Puzzle Shooter' primarily instead of a twitch/reflex shooter.
I found that I would have to plan out a 'Kill Chain', wherein I kill certain enemies with one weapon, switch to another to kill a few more, chainsaw to replenish ammo, wash rinse repeat and while this was also in the 2016 game it felt far more severe and a more blatant shackle on you in Eternal.

The gameplay or combat loop became very dull and rote to me which turned me off of it.

Also the story sucked.

In the Black version at least, the cursor defaulted to Acolyte and it says (normal) next to it in parenthesis, which will be Phil's argument if he plays it. Guess it could be a Mega Man 2 situation then. I can't remember which version I played on 360 I just remember dying a million times to stuff that I'm breezing past now. Maybe I got bamboozled I guess it makes sense that Acolyte would be the easy mode.

No wonder he’s sweating about Iron Cuck potentially leaving.

for what it’s worth, when he played ninja gaiden black during the rage-athon. It was normal difficulty default.
He didn’t die at all to the first boss, but died 5 times to the second boss. so yes, I really feel if he plays the 2nd on normal difficulty, you might get like the usual amount of salt with these games, but his king ego might make him choose hard.

Hope that makes sense.
It does, rather than allowing you to approach situations according to your playstyle, Eternal forces you to play the way the game explicitly wants you to play it because enemies are only weak to certain weapons.

but his king ego might make him choose hard.
Keep dreaming lmao, has he ever picked a difficulty above normal in any game? Even in games he's played multiple times, like the Fallout games or Skyrim, he still went with the default normal difficulty.

Well, I only remember New Vegas Hardcore Mode
and Silent Hill 2 Hard Mode, Resident Evil 0 Hard Mode, Resident Evil 1 Remaster Hard Mode
Dead Space 2 Zealot Difficulty, BioShock Remaster Hard Mode, Last of Us Remaster Hard Mode

This is just at the top of my head.

Oooh right, fair enough, I completely forgot about those hard difficulty playthroughs but they're all from games he's already played. I can't believe that he chose to play RE0 on Hard the last time, it's probably the only classic RE that's genuinely difficult and he ended up ragequitting it in hilarious fashion.

That playthrough was amazing in all the best ways. “THIS IS WHY I DONT CHOOSE HARD MODE”

khet can't fit through the door
Khet can't fly on a plane either.
Seems like a good idea for a thread: Things Khet Can't Do

Yeah its pretty baffling they've repackaged what's considered the inferior version four times now. They took out bosses nobody liked and removed the tests of valor for some bizarre reason yet they didn't bother to add stuff back in beyond the gore. Calling it Black is honestly a joke since beyond the visuals it hasn't made anything else about it feel definitive.. and I'm not even one of those Itagaki dickriders either I'm just calling it out as a bit of a con job not worth 50 bucks. I'm sure he could blunder his way through this one on Mentor.

All I'm gonna say about Doom Eternal is I think Ultra Nightmare is actually impossible on console with a controller and that really soured me on it. It made me realize oh right this is exactly how phil must feel playing anything that isn't a walking sim.

He's said in the past he doesn't have time for friends, he's married
Someone needs to ask him how his parents still managed to meet up with their friends. No way Dave constantly fishes alone.
I have DSP turning to Keem as a long shot sometime during tax season.
He has no idea how screwed he is this year.
khet can't fit through the door
It's been why he never mentions her doing 'errands' with him anymore.
Detractors prove him wrong again and create meme.

He did play Fallout: New Vegas on Very Hard after a troll promised him like $200 to do it while he was in the Bison Steve Hotel. He switched it to VH and the guy obviously didn't pony up the dough but Dave being Dave he never put it back on Normal. Then proceeded to die like 160 times, funniest thing about the TIHYDP tbh.
