President Claudia Sheinbaum called on Mexicans to focus on the fine print of Donald Trump’s executive orders on immigration and trade, while warning the US against intervening in her nation’s territory.

“It’s important to always keep a cool head and refer to the signed orders beyond the actual rhetoric,” Sheinbaum said at her daily morning press conference, before stressing that her government wants to avoid confrontation with the US. “That’s what counts before the law, strictly speaking.”

In her first statements since Trump signed numerous immigration-related orders, promised to designate Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist groups and renewed his pledge to place hefty tariffs on the country’s goods, Sheinbaum emphasized that she would defend Mexico’s “sovereignty and independence.”

She added that she was waiting for Foreign Affairs Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to begin formal talks between the two nations.

Sheinbaum, who has spoken by phone with Trump twice, did not respond directly to his renewed promise to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico as soon as Feb. 1, but said that the decree he signed includes preparation for the 2026 review of the USMCA, the North American free trade agreement.

The Mexican peso weakened as much as 1.4% before trimming losses a day after Trump’s remarks, the worst performance among emerging market currencies.

Sheinbaum has sought to avoid tariffs on all Mexican goods, which could jeopardize nearly $800 billion in annual trade between the neighboring nations and call into question the protections of the USMCA agreement, which Trump signed in 2020. Trump had said that he is considering asking Mexico and Canada to renegotiate the deal’s terms.

Migration, Cartels
Sheinbaum downplayed Trump’s executive order declaring an emergency on the border with Mexico and his plans to send armed forces to bolster security there, emphasizing that the text of the decree is very similar to the actions he took during his first term as president.

Mexico will act in a humanitarian manner but also seek to repatriate foreigners to their countries of origin if the US removes them, she said. “Remain in Mexico,” the program Trump’s government said it would reinstate, required migrants to wait for their US immigration court cases in Mexican territory.

Mexico also outlined its strategy for the deportation of its own citizens from the US, with Interior Minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez stating that there were 189 buses ready to transport them from the border to Mexican help centers and 100 available to bring them to their states of origin. De la Fuente emphasized a series of options for those detained, including an app with a panic button and access to support at consulates in the US.

Trump also said Monday that he would designate Mexican drug cartels and other groups as foreign terrorist organizations. In response, Sheinbaum said that the US could take actions that it deems necessary against criminal groups, including the cartels, in its own territory, but not within Mexico.

Analysts have said an aggressive interpretation of the law could make companies vulnerable to charges of offering material support to terrorists. It could also pave the way for US military action into Mexico, an idea Trump floated prior to starting his second term.

Kike can pontificate all she wants, but there is nothing stopping Trump from sending military intervention to Mexico if he deems it necessary. What's she going to do about it anyway? Use the anemic Mexican military?

hoooooooo boy, you don't know the HALF of it
  • her family comes from a real estate cartel in Mexico City
  • her father was a member of the Mexican Communist party
  • her husband used to launder money for the Gulf Cartel and had previously been arrested for corruption
  • one of her big policies as president (besides globohomo) is "ending the war against el narco" (exactly what it sounds like, just letting them do whatever the fuck they want)
  • 37 candidates for municipal and state positions were killed while she was running in 2024
  • one of her opponents, Jorge Máynez, barely survived a stage collapse that killed 10 and injured 213 people after he refused to drop out of the race
There are probably some farmers here from south of the border that can go into detail about this better than I can, but that's the basic gist of it. I fully expect to see her dead or deposed in the next six months.
Oh man. The mexibros are fucked. Does this bitch really think she step up to American Caesar? She has to be out of her mind if she does. Trump is going to take this and say "fine, if you think you can handle the Cartels, do it. We will provide your army advisors, as much ammo as it needs, and air support".

She's going to be in a real pickle if she turns that one down. I don't think Trump is kidding. He's seriously considering air strikes at a minimum.

I think the only place not taken over by cartels is Argentina. Uruguay is basically Argentina anyways. El Salvador?

Not saying Argentina has been taken over by cartels in the same way Mexico has, but what is thought to be the richest Mexican cartel (Also the most secretive), Los Cuinis aka the Valencia family, was running huge money laundering operations in Argentina (And Uruguay), and this was exposed when one of it's major leaders was captured in Argentina

In a strange dichotomy, Los Cuinis are regarded as an incredibly secretive cartel, but simultaneously they're the main financial sponsors of the most infamous, violent and theatrical current cartel, CJNG. The leader of CJNG, El Mencho, married into the Valencia family.

Los Cuinis became the richest Mexican cartel by focusing on the European market while everyone else obsessed over the American market.

You left out she was also a chosen World Economic Forum plant. She has quite a history with them too.

There are cartels way past Mexico.

I wouldn't be shocked if latin America was one big cartel russian nesting doll from north to south.

That's the end game boss Trump needs to defeat.

Something interesting about the Mexican cartels is they often get chemical precursors to produce things like Fentanyl from China. And on multiple occasions this has been exposed and their Chinese suppliers named.

The most famous example is Zhenli Ye Gon. He was busted in Mexico with $200 million dollars in cash sitting in his house. He was providing chemicals from Asia to the Sinaloa Cartel. I believe this was the biggest bust in Mexican history, not sure if it got surpassed or not

But in any case there is much speculation that the Chinese directly support the cartels and the US Fentanyl Crisis as a form of destabilization

What is plausible deniability.

What is foreign-sourced drones and munitions.

What is stealth airplanes.

Its almost like we can bomb every narco we want and pretend it was someone else doing it...

"Hey it wasn't us, it was the taco bell cartel and the buc-ee's caliphate!"

That works fine on AfD and bri'ish protesters. These guys have jungle hideouts and don't give a shit about plausible deniality and legal action. They'll just scatter like roaches, and good luck funding security cams through the whole spic continent.

Not a lot of jungle in Mexico bro, you're thinking Colombia which is almost all jungle but more importantly more far away, they actually need the mexicans to move their product.
and don't give a shit about plausible deniality and legal action
And? I'm talking about the mexican government, narcos can't go and cry to the UN and ICJ.

Mexican narcos have a much bigger presence here in America than in most other LATAM countries besides Mexico and Colombia, they go where the customers are.

Última edición:
Has Mexico ever thought, you know, that maybe having a lawless country run by criminals is a bad idea? If anything, you would think instead of this weird attempt at playing mediator between the cartels and feds; she should be begging the USA to stop in and just create a desolate hellscape where shacks used to be.
They like the money coming in.

If the US impounded remittances and was shutting off the cartels' money then Mexicans would probably be a lot less blasé about the whole thing. As it is, it's almost like a matter of national pride for Mexicans as they understand the cartels are beneficial to their ethnic group. They're as devoted to getting the cartels shut down as Indians are to getting the brain drain shut off from India.

Mexico can handle its internal affairs when it doesn't have several states effectively run by cartels through assassination and intimidation campaigns. Until then, Mexica Delende Est.

We left palates of cash like that just sitting all over Afghanistan. These taco niggers would be lucky for us to declare war on them!

I seem to recall the cartels started rioting and raising hell after Mexican feds took one of El Chapo's sons into custody, and the government released him to get them to stop.

(And the Federales who conducted the raid were subsequently doxed by the bodycam footage, then hunted down and murdered).
riot is a nice way to put it. they turned tijauana in haiti for a few days

I have a radical solution, but my fellow Americans should be familiar with it if you know history:

We should side with the cartels against the Mexican government

The Mexican government is incompetent, hostile, and clearly wants to unload its unwanted citizens to us as immigrants while enriching itself

Why not help the cartels if they promise to not interfere with America?

Drop a MOAB in some remote location and then tell them "Oh, silly us, sorry, we promise, no more mistakes! Next one will definitely have a target!"
Threats like this don't do shit to convince them to behave. Unless it's either a nuke being used on Mexican soil and/or the MOAB is dropped on top of a fukton of cartel peons to send that message. Since bodies are needed for identification and proof of death, cartel leaders shouldn't be killed with landscaping tier ordnance.

Costa Rica doesn't look like its got many issues.

Real shame MacAffee wrecked Belize. Place was semi-stable since up until independence it had been known as "British Mexico", and they still use English as their primary official language.

They've never forgiven the West for the Century of Humiliation.
