I don't know what stops these men from purchasing a farm in the end-ass of nowhere and going there. They can be have the Uncle Ted life of being a wood hermit and all they would need to give up is their fart huffing on the internet.
 
I know there are 100s of assassins in history people draw inspiration from, but it's somewhat interesting that both the CEO shooter and a 15 year old school shooter were recently associated with Ted Kaczynski.

It seems like Luigi was a techbro/techanxious kid, both him and Ted were overachievers who dropped out, became 'lost', which people find interesting because we all know people like that. He reviewed Ted's manifesto on good reads, and his last post to reddit was crossposting to the now banned r/tedkaczynski subreddit:

The school shooter just feels like your run of the mill school shooter kid experiencing a shit life, learns about past school shootings, gets obsessed and decides to do it herself. It's possible she was also purposefully radicalized by some weirdo neo-nazis online. She wanted to reduce overpopulation and quoted Ted at the end of her manifesto anyways:

Investigators are examining the digital footprint of Madison, Wisconsin school shooter Natalie ‘Samantha’ Rupnow as well as looking into verifying a possible manifesto that the 15-year-old may have left behind.

Rupnow opened fire on kids and staff at Abundant Life Christian School on Monday — raining bullets in the study hall and killing two before turning the gun on herself.

Accounts being linked to Rupnow online show an obsession with possible white supremacist ideologies and infamous past school shooters, as well as a chilling message from the ‘Unabomber’ Ted Kaczynski.

Screenshots posted of her alleged manifesto have shown Rupnow to be a lonely child who said she was ‘trapped and forced into my corner.’

Rupnow expressed unhappiness at what she described as a broken home and made multiple references to a therapist.

She allegedly describes herself as a ‘loner’ but admits she will ‘mourn for friends but sooner than later they’ll leave.’

The pages posted do not point to a specific political ideology but they claim ‘we need revolution.’

It ends with a quote attributed to the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski: ‘Finally, one learns that boredom is a disease of civilization.’

Social media portrays a more disturbed portrait, as she allegedly has posted photos of Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz and Columbine ‘trenchcoat mafia’ members Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.

Finally, here's just an amusing prison diary entry of Ted's that was recently made public, it seems part of Ted's prison sentence was being made to blush at dumb jokes about his crimes:

Strange thing: Today I went to outdoor recreation. When the guards started to take us to our cells, I noticed that the doctor, Doctor Leyva or Leyha, was hanging around the outer door of the building. After repeated prayers, he came out into the open, entered the building, and said again. He seemed to be waiting for something or someone. I was the last one the guards took into the building. When I passed through the door, I found the doctor, who was waiting for me. He said, “You should have been around to hear the joke! Somebody was retiring and a big package was left for them. And someone said, ‘It’s from Ted Kaczynski’!”, and he laughed as if it were an exceptionally funny joke. I laughed only out of politeness; I did not feel amused, but embarrassed. The guards who were leading me were behind me, and I could not see whether they smirked; but I did not hear them laugh. The anecdote which the doctor told me would undoubtedly have amused a six-year-old child, but not an adult person, and it seemed extraordinary to me that Dr. Leyba should wait five or ten minutes just to tell it to me, and laugh at it as if it were especially funny. Besides, it seems hardly appropriate that the doctor, who holds such a responsible position and should behave with some solemnity, should tell me such a joke. Dr. Leyba appears to be in his eighties, and I wonder if he is suffering from senile weakness.

Land costs money, much more than a lot of people can afford. Again blame the System.

It's not that expensive if a bunch of them were to group together and purchase some land. According to the Department of Agriculture, agricultural land in the United States averages at a cost of $4170 per acre, and in some states, it's significantly cheaper than that: in New Mexico for instance, the average price is $700 per acre, and that's just the average figure; for pastoral land, the rates are even lower.

If the Tenacious Unicorn Ranch can give it a go, I don't see why a bunch of Kaczynskiites can't. Blaming "the system" is just an excuse. If these people are truly committed to their beliefs, they should lead by example.

costs more than that to put up a habitable building, water and septic tank

there's also the difficulty in actually getting there

Just checked the listings on Zillow for empty land in New Mexico, and I found 5 separate 1 acre lots for under $5000 on the first page alone. I don't believe that is prohibitively expensive, especially if the cost were to be shared between a small community of people. If there's any obstacle these people might face, it would probably be zoning laws, but then they could simply opt to buy a smallholding instead (usually less expensive than a typical family home).

tedposters are not the kinds of people who share strong communities

also factor in the facts that you have to have at least water and some kind of sewer or at least an outhouse, and build a habitable building or the state/county will kick you the fuck off the land

Land is expensive, and real rural land (not “rural” as in you live away from a city but are surrounded by farmland and live on a road) is even more expensive.
 
An interesting essay was recently published in The New York Times called The Strange, Post-Partisan Popularity of the Unabomber.

The Unabomber commentary cycle in the media peaked up again after it emerged that Luigi Mangione reviewed Ted's manifesto. However, this New York Times piece was published a while after, so interest in commenting on new angles on Ted’s impact on modern-day culture is always bubbling away.

I had a look at google trends to look at popular interest in Teddy over time, and by far the biggest spike in interest was the TV series 'Manhunt Unabomber'.

Here are some possible reasons for other various spikes:

2010: Publication of Ted's first book 'Technological Slavery'

2016: Release of 'The Unabomber letters: A Yahoo News special report' & publication of Ted's second book 'Anti-Tech Revolution'

2017: Release of 'Manhunt: Unabomber' TV series

2022: Release of 'Ted K' movie

2021: Cancer diagnosis

2023: Death in prison

2024: News that Luigi reviewed Ted's manifesto
