Roguelikes and Roguelites General - Discussion, recommendations, and suggestions

I've always liked Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead. It's my favourite zombie apocalypse simulator.
We have a CDDA thread if you're interested, I...also recommend Bright Nights better unless you're more interested in the "realism" CDDA offers.
everyone should play the enchanted cave 2
it's a spiritual successor to the rogue like dungeon from lufia 2
This one? I swear I played that game a while ago with Flash...never heard of Lufia but I assume you also mean this one?
And I should probably contribute at least one of my favorites, I'll see if I can find my autistic list I made on some forum years ago, though I didn't really rank them. I'd say One Way Heroics is pretty unique if very weeby, the community is loyal and ancient and has a rich history on...some fucking 4chan board I'll tell you that much. Another one I played recently that was relatively interesting from what little I played was The Cathedral of Attnam (no sorry that's the website, the game is called IVAN), also known as f i l t e r e d the Roguelike. Infra Arcana is actually one I played years ago after the dev posted on RPG Codex, which is as good if not a better selling point to me than some other games. And for a "normie" pick I guess The Binding of Isaac.
Never heard of this. Looks neat, will give it a go. Sidenote, God fucking damn I love Rogue Basin.

Yep, and yep. There's still a free version on Kongregate or something, but the Steam version is well worth it IMO. Basically the idea is that you enter a 100 floor dungeon at level 1, and everything resets upon your death, however there are specially marked treasure chests you can come across that contain equipment that can be taken out of the dungeon (provided you make it to an escape point or have an item that can take you out of the dungeon).

And yeah, Lufia 2 (the one you linked) contained a specific dungeon that this game was inspired by. Your entire party would start at level 1, but you could get lucky and find an OP sword or spell on the early floors that would make clearing it easier. (It's telling that the longest paragraph in the wikipedia article is about this minor sidequest lol)

I think I've posted in the cdda thread before. I've tried bright nights it's not bad but I prefer CDDA.

The ancient cave dungeon in Lufia 2 is actually really fucking cool and I was really surprised by how fun it was. A full game done it that style would be awesome.

You niggers convinced me to play NetHack. Any starting advice? I'm still figuring out controls right now.
Just pick Archaeologist every time and dig down as far as you can go with the pick-axe you start out with.

That's a joke. (Although that's something I like to do sometimes.)

Actually the best preliminary advice is you have infinite amounts of time to think. Use it. Literally any keystroke could be the gigantic mistake that kills you instantly. And sometimes you will get killed absolutely unfairly, and God will laugh at you if you get mad.

The absolute top-tier players still win nearly every time, even doing insane challenges like "I'll wear a blindfold the whole game, and never use a weapon, and oh yeah, no food challenge."
Also, don't upgrade doors. Just use melee + medbay and wait until you get another crew member to man the door module instead. The 25 scrap saved this way often makes a big difference later.
I usually max doors (and man them) but this is generally only with the fat stacks I have entering the flagship fight when nothing else is worth buying. Really before the flagship fight upgrading doors (beyond maybe to level 2) is usually overkill. There are better uses of scrap.
Once piloting, weapons and engines are manned, it's best IMO to ignore manning your shield first and instead put your next crewmember on doors.
Man shields when you have crew who aren't doing anything more important. If you have one of the goofy layouts with sensors or doors next to shields, it can be worthwhile to man whatever systems let you switch the dude out to the more important system, which will depend on the situation.

It's of very minimal importance to have shields charge a tiny amount faster, because this does not affect the vast majority of your encounters. It might have some impact if you're facing fast-firing weapons with a manned enemy weapons room and weapons that fire really close to each other.

But unless you're one of those nerds who memorize every single weapon's charge-up time and know, it doesn't do much to help you.

Might get myself Soul Ash 2
I would get it solely because of how based the dev is - he's basically the anti-CoQ

So funny how fags and libshits seethe and cope about not being able to have buttsex in their WRPGs or why they can't have a harem daytime soap opera but then turn around and bitch about "muh anime" in JRPGs.

Typical subhuman trash.

Been playing it all day. Shits fucking kino and I found out about this after buying the game.

I am baffled why people got that fucking angry over pixelated images of characters not being able to be gay married.
As soon as I saw the guy's reaction and him refusing to back down I immediately bought the game full price. If someone tries cancelling him again I'll gladly buy more copies and announce it on their forums to trigger the predditors while I give away the keys.

Honestly this game is great. I know I'll be spending alot of time on it.

My current character looks like Hitler and Im doing a pyromancy run. Gonna genocide every non-human settlement.

Greetings, colleagues.

I'm quite fond of roguelites with cards or dice incorporated into them. Slay the Spire, Griftlands, Slice&Dice, Monster Train and many others have all given me a fun time. Do you all have any recommendation for things along these lines?

Thank you in advance.
