2024 Syrian opposition offensives - The first Syrian rebel offensive against Government forces since March 2020

Do you think that syrians in general / the rebels are sucking up to Israel because they want a close relation with the USA and other Israel loving world powers? Will it being them prosperity? Will they just be used? Are these rebels lying when they say they want peace? I have so many questions
They're 'sucking up' (issuing some supine statements basically saying they don't want to get into any shit with Israel atm) because they really have no choice at this point, this 13-year war has utterly gutted Syria and rendered it incapable of engaging in any great foreign adventures (against Jews and anyone else) for probably the rest of our lifetimes at the very least. Israel is literally bombing Assad's old weapon caches & military offices with impunity & also expanding their Golan buffer zone right now and HTS/FSA/everyone aren't doing much of anything about it not because they enjoy getting reamed by da Joos, but because they literally do not have the means to respond and the last thing HTS' leadership wants after finally winning this war is to get wiped out like the Hezbollah leadership (the RuAF was their bane for much of the civil war, and Israeli air power could easily be their bane now if they piss Netanyahu off).

Conservative Sunnis & Islamists, as a rule, do not tend to actually be fond of Jews in their own right (although some are willing to make peace with Israel, ex. Jordan, or even align with them against a shared geopolitical enemy like Iran, this does not mean they love Jews now - you should not expect post-Abraham Accords Riyadh to be hosting a synagogue any time soon for example). Al-Jolani/Al-Shar'a might be pragmatic enough to fit that mold (he has shown himself to be, if nothing else, a huge pragmatist & opportunist, and I don't mean that as an insult because it means he's easier to deal with than a genuine fanatical jihadist) but it's far from guaranteed. Also, like one page ago there was a screenshot of some of his men declaring their hopes to drive onward to Jerusalem so even if he wants to remain at peace with Israel, his subordinates could still get antsy & start some shit on their own.

As to whether trying to make nice with Israel and the West will bring Syria prosperity, only God knows. Even if foreign aid & dollars do come in, you would have to hope that HTS actually uses them to good effect instead of just pocketing it for themselves; that said, they did actually invest in making Idlib livable when they were trapped there for the past four years (it is one of the points in AJ's favor over Assad in fact), so this may be a case where a little optimism is warranted. I don't think Trump is going to be inclined to send them loads of money for bleeding-heart humanitarian reasons, but they might be able to strike a deal over those oil & gas fields in the east that Wagner used to patrol, and that would also bring in more dosh. Honestly, we're all just going to have to wait & see what happens over the coming months & years, keep in mind the rebels have not even finished forming their new gov't yet.

The relevant parts are this: he was in AQ and fought against the US. He spent time in prison and afterwards crossed into Syria and founded Al-Nusra, basically the Syria branch of AQ, which, while still a Sunni terror organization, was focused primarily on fighting Iran and not the United States. Here's where the biggest point of divergence between public understanding and the truth probably is: he never joined ISIS. From 2011 to 2013 he was provided funding and soldiers by Islamic State in Iraq, the precursor to ISIS, but in 2013 ISI turned into ISIS and demanded Al-Nusra bend the knee and merge under them. Julani told them to get fucked which led to conflict between the two groups.

In 2016 he broke with AQ entirely, making Al-Nusra an independent entity. Since then his stated objectives and views have not changed, and his actions reflect that. His opinion is that the United States and Europe primarily do business and are allied with the Sunni world, and entering into conflict with them is counterproductive to the true goal of destroying Iran. While he was effectively the one in charge of Idlib Al-Nusra rooted out and destroyed AQ and ISIS cells that tried to hide there.
What caused the HTS vs Al-Nusra split?
Just leadership differences/power struggle?

(issuing some supine statements basically saying they don't want to get into any shit with Israel atm) because they really have no choice at this point,
Not really accurate. I'll refer you to my above post detailing how Al-Nusra, and by extension HTS, have maintained this course since at least 2015. Julani is a pragmatist, and genuinely doesn't want beef with the US. Instead he wants to work with the US to destroy Iran.

They're one in the same. Al-Nusra was a purely militant/jihadist organization, and HTS fancies itself a legitimate government. In 2017 Julani announced that Al-Nusra would "merge" (see: absorb) with a few other rebel groups in the Idlib Enclave to form HTS, which he branded as a broad tent Sunni Salafist organization and alternate government to Assad.

All of this is an unavoidable consequence of those being postcolonial Frankenstein states - for any of these countries to be stable you need mass population transfers to create a series of coherent contiguous states for Shia, Sunni, the Kurds, and the hodgepodge of Christian and Greek minority groups. The countries that are homogenous have been a more more stable - Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, the gulf states all avoided the civil wars wrecking multiethnic Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Libya, etc.
So the solution is to cut them up into tiny states like the Balkans.

Let's not get too :optimistic: here. AJ went to Abu Ghraib (that could not have been fun) and consistently decimated the US-funded & equipped rebel outfits in his corner of Syria, from Harakat Hazzm to the 13th Division to Division 30, for years (stopping only because any survivors from these groups went & joined the SNA, staying clear of HTS/JaN and under Turkish protection). He's a pragmatist sure, and he certainly must hate Iran (if not for being Shiites then for propping Assad up for 13 years & to the tune of at least $50 billion) but pragmatism 1) doesn't equal any real affection and 2) has its limits - as mentioned, even if AJ is 100% committed to realism and willing to play ball, not all of his subordinates are and they could potentially blow up his efforts (perhaps literally) if he doesn't keep them on a very short leash in the coming years.

I don't think Syria can actually contribute that much to any alliance against Iran in its current state anyway, and frankly just existing as a conservative Sunni dictatorship which blocks the Axis of Resistance from reaching Hezbollah is a great help in that regard already.

The Chief Rabbi of Saudi Arabia
OK that's funny, but apparently this Rabbi Herzog is self-appointed and mostly just caters to foreign Jews who happen to be living in KSA (contractors, American troops & such). (Archive) And he still doesn't actually have a synagogue, although of course he would like to build one.

Jews and their little ISIS puppets both suck.
greater israel is a meme and always will be, even the most hardcore religious zionists only want south lebanon/West Bank to match the Biblical united Kingdom of Israel
Lying comes so natural to you, must be genetic.

Your most religious psychos not only have Greater Israel; they also have another project called Heavenly Jerusalem.
They would have to destroy Ukraine to make that happen.

The bigger question is how will the Jews react to an Arab country that seems to be placing "Good governance & providing for its people" over "DEATH TO KIKES AT ANY AND ALL COSTS"
Aside from Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, you mean? They've got enemies enough in Iran, and Lebanon is still a clusterfuck since while Hezbollah is buck-broken at the moment they're still not completely dead. Neither they nor the Syrians need to like each other in order to agree that shooting at each other is mutually counterproductive.

The United States had Jupiter MRBMs stationed in Turkey until they were removed in a quid pro quo with the Soviets at the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis in return for the Soviets removing their missiles from Cuba.

Had. In 1960. i'm talking about currently and why something like a nuke-capable tomahawk wasn't deployed. Because there was no longer any need, but Turkey wanted to feel part of the Kool Kids Klub.

The best result for everyone involved, and damn Bashar for not having the wherewithal to make it happen.
If this situation has proven anything, it's that Bashar's SAA was much weaker than we previously thought, and basically entirely reliant on its Iranian, Lebanese, and Russian friends to do all the real fighting for them. If the Russians were not on board with fighting Rojava, it wasn't going to happen, simple as.

Could anybody translate or at least knows what are they talking about? A bit of context would be nice
Audio is extremely shit but I'll try
Two more executions by moderate sunnis:

moderateexecution1.mp4
Roaches execute two men in their hospital beds
0:15- Guy with Gun(GwG): Brothers, your army escaped and you?
Guy in bed(GiB): *can't hear it, he talks with a lisp or the same fogginess you feel post operations*

0:40 - GwG2 : Have you killed anyone from our people
GiB2: No, I swear
GwG1: You've definitely killed, you haven't killed anyone?
GiB2: No I swear, I've never shot a single bullet
GwG2: So why are you in the army? You love Bashar Al Assad?
GiB2: No other option, they prosecute us *??? Not really familiar with Syrian but the gist of it is that he probably was forced into it or did it to avoid being strongarmed*
GwG2: So the solution is joining the army?

1:05 - Also unintelligible, they're speaking over each other

1:09 - GwG1+GwG2: Ok sleep

1:16 - GwG1+GwG2: And you? Which branch of the army?(They're asking about a specific one which I can only hear as "Heizib?" which in arabic translates to party.)
GiB1: *Unintelligible* Self Defense
GwGs: Self Defense? And we're safe, right? We're safe? Border patrol? Yesterday you were officers(? again I'm not familiar with the syrian dialect), eh?
Yeah, patriots
*Starts shooting*

moderateexecution2.mp4
Guy gets executed on the street by moderate rebels.
Context is that they're asking about some people, I'm guessing remnants of the army or other Alawites? The guy with the camera mentions the guy on the ground as an Alawite who was caught alone.

0:04 - Guy on the Ground(GG): I swear I don't know where they are
0:06: - Cameraman(CM): Were you with them?
GG : No, I swear
CM or some guy offscreen: Where did you last see them?
0:12- GG: Near the parks
CM: You're not lying, are you?
Guy off screen: That's all we're getting out of you
CM: Get down on the ground
GG: No!
The rest is unintelligible

I thought the videos alone were bad but listening to them second by second and rewinding is worse. I get they may have been parts of the original regime and possibly did fucked up shit but instantly taking their place isn't convincing anyone you're the moderate gud guys.

Turkey was very close to joining that list had the PKK not interrupted the 70s military government's attempts at forced assimilation. Basically the entire project of Turkish nationalism, even predating Ataturk, was built on genociding so many minorities that Turkey would be impossible to carve up ever again. Also explains why they're so terrified of Kurdish autonomists like Rojava regardless of their massively scaled back ambitions since their initial rebellion. Iraqi Kurdistan is only tolerated due to their small shared border with Turkey and the leadership's willingness to submit itself to Turkish power. Rojava will always be an existential threat to Turkey because Turkey cannot exist without denying the right of non-Turks to exist in Turkey as equal citizens.

GiB2: No other option, they prosecute us *??? Not really familiar with Syrian but the gist of it is that he probably was forced into it or did it to avoid being strongarmed*
Syria has conscription and if you refuse you are thrown in Prison.

I have a question for the thread. If the new HTS govt offered to lease Tartus port to the Russians for a few more years, in exchange for handing over Assad, do you think Putin would agree?
If his friends ask him to hand over Assad, he will do it. The only reason Assad is not in Israeli captivity is that Putin has not been asked yet.

If it were only up to him, of course he would. The ports in Syria are key to supplying the russian operations in Africa, and agreeing to such terms would help normalize relations with the new syrian goverment. The other thing is Assad simply has no political relevance anymore, this is no "German Empire sending Lenin to Russia" type of exile, he's done for and neither he nor his immediate family will be able to set foot in Syria in their lifetimes unless something absurd happens, like Syria getting conquered by another country

It doesn't matter. You won't hear about how the moderate rebels commit the war crime of executing surrendered solders. They know they have the west to do PR for them like always. And that PR is to simply not ever talk about these sort of things.

Let's not get too :optimistic: here.
I'm not, I'm merely pointing out that his message has been consistent for the last decade and his actions reflect that. While he did engage American backed groups, he also hasn't attacked any Western assets directly. Again, he's a pragmatist, I think he has no problem crushing other groups, including ones preferred by the West, but he's not going to do anything that would cause him to be bombed.

Wow. A sourceless graphic. I'm convinced, really.

Right, but you implied that the reason the US doesn't have missiles in Turkey is because we don't want Ivan to "get twitchy," when it's actually because we originally had them there, but removed them as part of an agreement.
