I've found a more fitting flag for the SAA in light of their performance in this past week & a half, by which they've surely immediately dethroned the ANA, AFDRA, ARVN and probably even Saddam's 2003 army as well as the 2014 Iraqi Army for the title of 'worst modern state military'.

Honestly, if Al-Jolani turns out to have been taqiyya'ing about going as woke as an Islamist could and imposes a Sunni theocracy + the Lebanese Christians finish off Hezbollah since Israel buckbroke the latter, Syria's remaining Christians should really just move to Lebanon for their own safety. Maybe do a population exchange with most or all of the Lebanese Sunnis while they're at it. Don't just make Lebanon Christian again, make it into the #1 Christian redoubt in the Middle East, they could seriously use one.

(As an aside, Syria is directly responsible for fucking over the Christians in Lebanon and causing their decline over the past four decades, which is why even at my most SAA-friendly days and in spite of the rhetoric about how they're the last hope for Syrian Christians I could never bring myself to truly like Assad. Syria progressively occupied Lebanon after its civil war got going, an SSNP nigger who was almost certainly on Assad Sr's payroll (and certainly protected by him) assassinated the strongest Christian leader in 1982 when he was coming close to finally winning said civil war - that's one fag I do hope HTS finds & tortures to death - and they ended up crushing the main Christian coalition & massively empowering Hezbollah in their bid to permanently occupy & annex Lebanon, 'Greater Syria' being a longtime dream of Syrian ultranationalists including the Assads.)

You're combining two things into a single event.

Extremist Islam as we understand it is more or less the child of Wahhabi Islam, which is supported by the Saudis, as in the Saud family. The reason the Sauds have the power they do is partly because T.E. Lawrence, of Lawrence of Arabia fame, was sent by the British to make inroads with the non Turk tribes in the Ottoman Empire and work with them to destabilize it. After the war was over, most of the area was carved up by France and Britain.

In World War 1 2: Tokyo Driftaloo, the Arabs that disliked colonial rule were drawn to the rhetoric of the Axis, and developed this Arab nationalist idea that became Ba'athism. The evolution and spread of Arab nationalist was directly influenced and supported by the Axis.

In conclusion, both Islamic fundamentalist extremism and Ba'athism are the result, at least in part, to European meddling, but are the result of different interventions by different ideologies and countries.

His own forces are just as likely to Matryr him as the enemy if they think he's giving up. Arguably more likely, as Allie Jay seems like he'd want to at least run a show trial, Saddam style.

Russia isn't his enemy, and Turkey is... well its complicated but they benefit from him slinking off into dishonorable exile vs. being any sort of martyr figure for opposition to their opposition to rally behind.

The government forces hadn't made any significant gains since 2015 despite uncontested air dominance because they were arabs. Russia lacked that conflux of "ability" and "will" to beable help them enact the needed genocide to clear out the rebels, and anything Iran did provided a pretext for Das Juden to launch airstrikes.
this was the inevitable outcome given the state the loyalist forces had degraded to.

there was shock that they collapsed so quickly, especially since the actual negotiated withdraw date had come and gone without much beyond the normal slapfighting. But the US wasn't going to go back in to save Ghani.

That's not him that's just some random guy getting hanged in daraa. I'm pretty sure he's actually been missing since 2022 after he was released from prison for murder and committed murder again. Maybe they found him and the death story is true, but this video is not of him.

Lawrence didn't really interact with the Saudi, he interacted with Faisal of the Hashemites who are the ruling family of Jordan. The person you're thinking of is Gertrude Bell.

Interesting. It did look like him from the old article and he's (rightly) despised even by his own side for being the standard corrupt abusive princeling-thug who uses his nepotistic connections to get away with being a cunt (up to & including murdering generals on his side) so it wouldn't have surprised me that he got killed even in a former Assad loyalist bastion like Latakia, but I too have just started reading people mentioning this was 'probably' from Daraa instead. I'll have to go back & edit my old post.
