Amy Schumer Barbie Movie Salt - They didn't learn their lesson after Ghostbusters.

One thing I'm interested in seeing is that if anyone starts up with the "Muh childhood's gettin' ruined reee!" stuff, it's more likely to be women, so they won't just be able to play the sexism card if that happens.
That was the Jem and the Holograms movie. I don't have any memories or attachment to the cartoons, but apparently all the movie had in common with it was character names. And then they used fans of the old series in a humiliating "contest" that took videos they did talking about how much they loved the old cartoon and made it look like they were praising the film.

It was goddamn hilarious.

Honestly I'm wondering why a live-action film at all. God knows Netflix kids sction is crammed with the one-a-year-straight-to-video CGI films.

So why is everyone up in arms over the sanctity of Barbie's reputation because of this movie? Is there an underground Barbie fandom we don't know about?

I think it's more a case of "won't somebody think of the children?" pearl clutching, or just general ideological snarling from people who don't like Schumer or her politics.

"She's the enemy, so fuck her and everything she does."

Another Ghostbusters-style saltfest on the way!
...Although, they shouldn't pick a female Herman Goering to play Barbie.

Maybe these manbabies have a vagina dentata phobia so they have long fetishized Barbie's blank space and are horrified and REEEEEEing that someone is going to get girl slime on her.

Why do almost all of the men complaining on Youtube about this seem to have at least three chins and a cup size larger than Schumer's?

I'm expecting a flop worse than the ghostbusters remake - remember that a movie like Ghostbusters spends about equal to its production budget in marketing. Ghostbusters lost Sony Pictures over $100 million by that measure. We're also not looking at a Transformers style overseas blockbuster either where most of the revenue comes from there rather than the domestic market.

I'm expecting about an $80 - $90 million dollar budget for this, and a worldwide take of $50 million or so, and a very very bad critical reception.

It can afford to lose at least some money and be a moderately shitty movie if it moves the actual product for Mattel and at least acts as a toy advertisement.

To be a complete disaster, it would have to not only lose a shitload of money, but somehow actually damage the brand itself and turn people off the toys, too.

Worse would be what I expect it to do- not make an appreciative difference in the toys sold for the year.

@Internet War Criminal
We didn't know that you are a Barbie fan.

And some Irish Model no one heard about is saying that this movie will as brilliant as her Instagram response to the MEAN OLD TROLLS.

DANIELLA MOYLES:
Amy Schumer’s Barbie movie role will be as brilliant as her response to online trolls
And in typically disappointing fashion internet trolls were swiftly out in force to bombard Amy with claims that she wasn’t the ideal body type for the role.

I met Amy once in a small underground New York comedy club when she was just a rising star who dropped in to try out some new material on a live crowd.

And I met her again more recently when she was in Dublin on a media trail promoting her first movie Trainwreck.

Both times she was kind and humble yet a powerhouse of a woman who has unlocked the secret to being absolutely comfortable and confident in her own skin, and it really exudes from her.

When I read the reports of trolls online questioning her ability to embody Barbie I knew her response to them would be brilliant — and it was.

The advertising in this film at least should be offset somewhat with toy sales, although young girls aren't known for being PC about looks and I imagine they'll be more than one family argument about "Why did you buy me the fat Barbie!".

i hope george takei will be in it

and by it i mean amy schumer

and by in her i mean sticking his wrinkled old man gayboner up her floppy multifolded grilled cheese sandwich

The truth is that this movie is gonna be exactly like ghostbusters:

- whatever it was supposed to achieve at the box office, it will be a failure
- even though it's meant to be for kids it will be too raunchy so it will bomb as a result of parents not bringing children
- MRAs will claim it's the worst thing ever and it killed a potential franchise
- critics will claim it's one of the funniest movies of the year
- Twitter feminists will say it's one of the best movies of the year but won't pay to go and see it
- it's just gonna be bland boring and generic but nowhere near as bad as people claimed it is

To be fair to Ghostbusters 2016 a lot of critics basically pointed out that while it was funny, it just couldn't escape the original's shadow and be its own thing - it's not as good as the original or as funny as the original, so they're like 'We liked it but you know, this didn't need to exist.'
