Anime is neither good nor bad

The anime bad crowd is retarded. They don't even have their own opinion they just stole the idea that anime bad from someone else.


You ask them to explain why anime bad and they can't explain it. You give them counter example and say they should watch x/y show and they sperg out.

Sometimes it's just overcompensation because they used to be into degenerate bad anime and assume everything is like this and want to look cool.
 
It’s an artistic medium that, like American comics, has seriously pigeonholed itself with its own tropes.

Anime and manga aren’t as bad as American comics in this regard, but they’re getting worse.

its alright but the older I get, the more I just read the manga. I was big into anime 20-25 years ago though. I more prefer 70s-90s anime really now, kinda similar to @Spud, but I hate the Fist of the North Star/Early JoJo styled art.

Same, I have grown more impatient towards anime. I always need to watch at least a few episodes before I can even figure out if it's something I'm going to enjoy. Something that I'm simply not willing to do anymore.
 
Never cared for anime outside of a few I can count on hand, I am just not the audience for it and would rather watch other things

however I do think the anti anime people/anime haters come across as some of the most joyless, insufferable, miserable fucks ever and I sympathize a bit with weebs having to deal with tourists shitting up their hobby as it will likely just get worse so I don't think i'm missing out on much anyway when it eventually becomes western animation 2.0

Yeah I usually watch older cyber-punk-y anime movies if anything nowadays. I used to have patience for the annoying tropes as a teen too, loved Tenchi Muyo and Love Hina and stuff... I suppose though, they SET a lot of those tropes, didn't they.

Also, Tenchi's manga was really short and only really good as a companion piece to the series.

Patlabor 2 should be required watching in schools just to make people who seethe over it shut up. Musashi Gundoh should be required watching in schools to make people who worship it stop taking it so seriously.
 
I think the problem with anime is that the medium as found itself stuck in this incestuous circle of immature tropes that can be seen in everything from the plot, to the dialogue, to the voice acting, and pretty much everything else. Nearly everything put out in the past ten to fifteen years especially is just slop for lonely, emotionally stunted Nip teenagers on par with some of the worst goyslop the likes of Netflix and Disney put out in the West. It's like an ouroboros of cringe that's consuming the industry.

All the anime that I personally like, and which I maintain are the best, are the ones that are played mostly if not completely straight, where there's no over the top voice acting, no silly faces frames, no isekai faggotry, just a straight to the point story that makes the most of the animation. I'll always maintain Satoshi Kon's untimely death really did one over on the industry, it's probably just a cope but I think if he was still around there would at least have been a number of more serious alternatives to all the Shonen Jump shite.
 
I cannot profess to be an expert on anime. Of what I have seen, I have found the sense of humor...Unsettling. It reminds me of 1950s UK Carry On "Oh Matron" antics, only more rapey. As a feminist, it offends me because of what I've seen it depicts all women as either man haters or closet nymphomaniacs who desperately want to be fucked.

I appreciate it is an art from a culture alien to mine, but I don't like the message it shares.

I think it is misogynistic, backward and clearly from a society with a very unhealthy relationship between the sexes.
