Your Superstitions and Strange Beliefs - or how to ward off bad luck, wicked juju, and the evil eye

I never thought I was "psychic" psychic. I always thought anyone could learn all the weird stuff I was able to do. Till I find out it wasn't normal to be able to do stuff.

So I got two weird forms of premonition. One of them I call "future speak/talk". It's not that I know the future or can see or perceive it. But rather I will at random time start to talk nonsense that becomes future events. I would just black out for a few seconds and start saying crap that wouldn't happen till a month or year later. But it eventually went away as I grew older and could no longer see shadow people.

The second form is what I called "deja vu". This only seems to occur when I have a massive mental strain. Either when I have had multiple anxiety attacks in a few days or when I haven't slept well for weeks. After that I will continuously have sleep paralysis when I do sleep. And then the deja vu hits when I'm awake.

It's a strange feeling of I've done this, I've been here, I've know this. You start to have flash backs of future events. But the future events are always around five minutes ahead of what's going on. I thought I was just crazy or stupid till I tried it on a co worker. I got a hit of deja vu found the nearest co worker and was like. Look look at this time the machines going down. So and so is gonna come out of here. Lab at this moment will come by and she will ask you this then pass you. Out of the freezer room so and so will go in. And so and so will come out and head nod you. So and so chick will pass by and wave at you. And he was confused and I just pointed at the clock and bam. Everything I said happened like clock work. And when it was over I was so excited I finally got to show someone I'm not crazy and am actually psychic.

He had a serious pokerface. Turned around and never talked to me ever again.

I would have been so psyched to experience that. That guy's a weirdo.

Don't fuck with demons. They will appear at your lowest to offer you a way out. If you accept their help I don't blame you, I understand.
Adding to this, you don't even need demons to be real for this to be a bad idea.
The psychological effects alone of seeking an external fix when you're in a bad place and attributing any improvements to something beyond your control is bad for you.

I am going to admit something I have admitted only to one person once. It's not really a superstition, just a feeling I have.

A few years ago I developed an autistic interest in Indo-European antiquities, from myth to language. I entered my master's program by talking about some of my amateur research on the topic and even wrote about translating Robert Kirk's The Secret Commonwealth (ifykyk). Finished my first year with a near perfect GPA. Extremely lucky, I say to people.. But I wonder if I pulled on something.

Without PLing too much, what's your focus topic? Which god or force wants your attention?

White lighters are bad luck. I don't know where I picked that up nor do I believe in it, but it's a nice conversation starter when I'm in the smoker's area of a club and someone pulls out one. I met some interesting one-night friends and even one girl who's still my friend with this.
This urban legend is great because of how it morphed into pop culture.

When Bic originally produced their disposable lighters in the 70's, the only two colors available were White and Black. Guess which one was favored by marijuana smokers? Black. They favored black because it's color was less conspicuous, and if you were using the butt of the lighter to pack down the bowl, it wouldn't show ash/resin stains.

This then evolved (as most stoner things do) into "It's baaaad Juju to have a white bic mmaaan."

This then further became part of music culture, where a musician shouldn't even see a white lighter for fear of injury, loss of voice, strings breaking, or the possibility of joining the 27 Club. The three members of the 27 Club who were found with white lighters were Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison. Kurt Cobain was later added to the legend after his death in '94.

Except that can't be true because Jimi, Janis, and Jim all died before Bic began production of the disposable lighter in 1973. Kurt was allegedly found with two lighters in his pockets, and neither were white.

It's kind of incredible how such a practical reason to avoid an item grew into a staple of American urban mythos.

Language, mainly teaching and translating, is the most I can part with.
In this specific instance and heretofore related academic and personal interest, it has always been Elatha, and a slew of recurrent fictional characters in that likeness.
Make of it what you will, you can always drop me a note if you'd like to share insight.

If sugar or salt is spilled, always throw some over your shoulder.
Specifically (at least as far as I've heard it) thrown over the left shoulder with the right hand, which is, into the Devil's face with the hand of blessing.

(edit to add, posted before I meant to)
White lighters are bad luck.
Green cars are bad luck too.

In my experience they show up when you're genuinely debating killing yourself to get out of a situation. I don't mean the kms to get out of awkward situation joke but shit is so fucked, all hope gone, no light at the end of the tunnel and you can't even imagine a way out situation.

The worst/best part about it is that after the experience I got out in less than two weeks. The improvement is instant.
