Kinda bizarre to see feminists standing up so much for prostitution tbh- it's not like it's a glorified career. Many prostitutes are in poor health conditions and often are abused by their pimps.

It's all about that "sex positive" grrl power bullshit.

Their idea is they've got something that men want and are willing to pay large sums of money for it so why not charge for it? Makes perfect business sense until you realize that unless you're working in a legal brothel or you're doing it in front of a camera the chance of you keeping that money is very low. They've got a romanticized notion of it thanks to Hollywood and movies such as "Pretty Woman" which is ironic considering she's a film student and all that. But then after seeing her top 11 movie list, I really wonder if she actually learned anything.

Funny enough, "Pretty Woman" started out as a completely different film called "$3000" (for the amount she was paid for her services), and was going to be a much more darker and realistic look at prostitution, ending with the Richard Gere character literally throwing Julia Roberts in the gutter at the end. Somewhere along the way, Hollywood gonna Hollywood, and then we got a romantic comedy instead.

Well, the current mainstream feminism is the pet ideology of trophy wives and upper class princesses that will put out if they get enough attention and validation for it, so there...

That would have been a better movie and I'll admit to a little bit of schadenfreude because I can't stand Julia Roberts and seeing her humiliated on screen would have been good. Instead because of that damn movie she's all that people could talk about for months afterwards.

But did you notice in her thing that she never called them "prostitutes"? They were all "sex workers" which is the PC SJW term for a woman who sells her body.

You know, Brad Jones in his "Deception of a Generation" two parter brought up a point that Lindsey might like to keep in mind: "You're getting mad at something the VILLAIN is doing".

Which is why feminists who are pro-sex work seek to remove the factors that cause it to be harmful to prostitutes in the first place. such as legalizing prostitution so it no longer needs to be done on dark dangerous street corners, heavy crackdowns on pimps, etc.

Actually, while in this case they were just prostitutes, people use "sex worker" because it encompasses a lot more occupations, such as strippers, dominatrixes, porn stars, and so on.

I don't get it in part because "sex worker" itself has a rather negative connotation much like prostitute and I would think that strippers or doms or even porn stars would rather say something like "dancer", "actress" or even "adult entertainer" for their profession than sex worker simply because the first thing you think of is prostitute. So really it seems to me that sex worker is a PC term specifically for prostitutes in order to have it sound a little more classy. Like they're those sex therapists or surrogates that in some areas are actually covered as a legitimate medical thing.

For some reason, this reminded of that Sealab 2021 episode with the native american man.

"Native american is a word thrust upon my people by PC culture."

Sometimes I think about those stories where a privileged rich person spends some time with poor people or minorities, then claims to "Understand them" and starts a crusade for them. Really, it often sounds less like they understand them or are motivated by a selfless desire to help them. It sounds as though they pity them.

The people that I have heard use 'sex worker' are saying in regards to murder stories, because as it is used in newspapers, the term 'prostitute' generally dehumanizes them. They're not wrong, prostitutes in the classic sense of the word are often considered less worthy by police and society in general, but sex worker is too broad of a term. I'm listening to a podcast about the Yorkshire Ripper serial killer of the late 70s, and the police were hesitant to use tell people that the victims were prostitutes because they would garner less sympathy and attention from the general public. Some American police officers have used the acronym NHI, or 'no humans involved'. However, the serial killers they are talking about target the poor, disadvantaged women working street corners and truck stops, not usually the $300/hour escorts or call girls, so prostitute generally provides are more accurate mental picture of the crime.

I haven't seen too many porn stars refer to themselves as sex workers, if any; the few that use that term are referring to people engaging in prostitution, not just porn or stripping, and even then they only use it in a sympathetic way. When they are outing other porn stars as prostitutes they generally say it some other way.

I feel they've done the same thing with the term "sex worker" as they have with others, such as "violence" and anything with "-phobia" at the end. They've purposely picked a term that carries with it strong negative connotations, and started applying it to things that are tangentally similar at best. This is how expressing disagreement with someone has become violence and expressing a preference for thin people has become fat-phobia.

They seem to think that by applying these terms to much lesser concepts, they will make them seem more important, when in actuality all it does is make the important issues more likely to be ignored.

tl;dr- These idiots want the oppression cred for being actual sex workers, when all they actually did was let some dude with a cellphone take some nudes one time. So they appropriated the term.

I don't really see why she's a lolcow, let alone a schizocow. She seems like an average girl with some feminist tendencies, nothing too out of the ordinary.

That's when they're working for a pimp. The ones who are generally do it because prostitution is illegal wherever they are so they can't go to a legal brothel. AFAIK I don't think feminists are saying prostitute is a great career choice, they're just saying we should stop looking down on those who choose that path in life. There's a lot of dumb stigma attached to people who work in the sex industry.

Saying dancer, actress or adult entertainer is just sugarcoating things. When people find out what they do for a living they would judge them regardless, so might as well be straightforward and say they're sex workers or prostitutes.

Conveniently, these types forget human trafficking skyrockets in countries where prostitution is legal. Turns out legal brothels are great fronts for hiding underage sex slaves.

Yeah I'm aware of that and that's the whole point. It's gotten to the point where "dancer" is a euphemism for stripper so legitimate dancers now specify what kind of dance they do but that's not the point.

The whole thing dealt with calling prostitutes "sex workers" as a way of making it sound better or sugarcoating it as you said. People use that term as a way of removing the stigma from the word prostitute. So why would somebody who takes their clothes off for money want to be associated with somebody who has sex for money? I would think they'd want people to understand that they're not like that and while they might get naked and shimmy along to some 80's hair metal anthem like "Pour Some Sugar On Me" they're not doing so in some seedy motel room with any guy with $100 in his pocket.

Howdy.
Lately, I have gotten back taking an interest on Channel Awesome figures, in the wake of starting to follow Phelous on Youtube. Back in the day, I mostly watched guys from Blistered thumbs, but still I gave a run to Lindsay Ellis' old batch of vids. Anything aside from the yelling goblin with the glasses was better, I have to say.

It seems she has made the decision to mock her growing anti-depressant addiction, but this euphemism fools none obviously. She's under the sea, swallowing the salt and regurgitating it as she surfaces to breath. Whilst I admire the determination she had to get her master degree in cinematography, she just missed the springboard for a promising career. The only chance she had was to demonstrate her cinematographic talent in the three braindead crossover movies CA put together. Unfortunately, the Walkers had destroyed any shred of credibility everyone could have garnered... As for her short around abortion, it had limited, purely academic impact.

To make a long story short, she fell victim to what Hollywood calls "typecast". For anyone who remembers her, she stays the xx chromosome counterpart of Doug Walker.
She knows it, deep inside. As a proof of it, she rehashes the old Nostalgia Chick gimmick to get views. Her newest upload is a video review around Disney's Hercules pretentiously called "essay" in a poor attempt to gain connoisseur points. If any doubt was left as about how she's a deadbeat, this video cleared it.

I think the main reason why she's less popular is simply because she retired the Nostalgia Chick character. People wanted to see that, not the real Lindsay. She was always an SJW but it's just that she hid behind a character for years. On top of that, she got older and less TGWTG fanboys wanted to flail their dicks at her.
