Achievement Hunters Club - Wasted 300 hours of my life just for a platinum gang

Mahjong will break you.
I have Chinese friends, they'll carry me to victory

The first 7 were on sale not too long ago. I started 0, did all the arcade games I can clear for now, then started on disco... then I looked through the rest of the guide...

Then I remembered I have to do this pretty much 7 times... Needless to say, it's gonna take me a while to do all 7. I have to be in a mood to plug away at something as big as these.

At least the later games should be more fun with their combat. I like 0, all the side stuff is really fun, but my god does the fact it's a ps2 game at its core show in its janky, miserable ass, finicky combat. I'm sure I'll get better at it eventually, but so far just mashing "fast attack" then doing a grab finisher feels like the only reliable way to get anything done. "Rush" mode feels useless because no matter how I time the dodges, its still more efficient to just jab rush and grab.

Its also really annoying having to check my inventory after every event because of the weird ass food corruption bug this version has. Seems to be random how frequent it happens per the player. I get it extremely frequently for some reason but at least it's easy enough to fix with a quick save and reset.
Damn, good luck. I don't think I'll be dedicated enough to do all 7. I'm already doubting my decision 100% this game after I looked up a spoiler-free guide. Usually games give you a bit of leeway when you try to get all the achievements, but this one is straight up a literal 100%.

If GTA IV didn't have fucking online achievements I would have 100% on it but it does so it can go fuck itself.
Oh, don't remind me. Good luck trying for them NOW since everybody is on GTA V. Even so, they ask way too much for the player. Win 20 different multiplayer races. Reach max rank online ($5 million). Win every mode on either side, win every race, regular and GTA race. Even IF you boost/glitch for a high rank, expect to sink hundreds of hours into playing nothing but GTA IV.

That's not even accounting for finding all 200 pigeons hidden around Liberty City or completing every stunt jump for 100% completion.

That...I regret 100% IV's story mode, it's a waste of time and the reward is glitched out the ass. Uncapped ammo but when you load a save the any ammo over the cap is lost and a shitty annihilator on a Rotterdam Tower that only spawns when you fly another heli to it.

I would LIKE to 100% GTA IV, but I am enjoying the story to where I'd like to do side progression in my own pace. The experience would turn into a slog if I would be devoted into those collectibles with no tangible reward.

Another game I'm replaying for 100% is Bully, another R* title. Luckily, it's much smaller in scope than GTA IV, but it still has nagging issues that CAN affect 100%. One achievement is to shoot 300 bottles at a carnival. Okay, there's no way to track your progress for it. One of many tasks for 100% is to complete 40 errands. Errands are side quests initiated by NPCs around the world. They don't always appear or track when expected.

I HATE achievements that require finding X knickknacks around the world. Looking at you, Ubisoft.

Finally got off my ass and booted up my save again. Going through and knocking out absolutely everything possible before ending chapter 2, and while you don't have to 100% everything, it is damn close. Some mini-games barely require any work (bowling, batting cages, arcade games) and some require 100% or damn near (crane games, disco). I'm just glad equipment is the about the only thing item wise that's tracked specifically and that RC parts have their own completely seperate inventory, because I am getting hit with the item corruption bug so frequently that it's become it's own unique challenge for me to overcome out of sheer spite.

It only effects inventory items, so anything registered to RC parts, Equipment (it'll corrupt but restore just fine after a save) or thrown in my item box is safe, but any consumable/sellable is liable to be destroyed anytime I activate a side/story event or eat. Sometimes saving will revert it back to what it originally was, other times it can change it into something different, which can even be something isn't supposed to be in your consumable inventory (an RC Gear for example). When this happens, trying to put it in the item box will put a broken version in it (and keep it in your inventory) that does not stack and can be put in infinitely. Trying to withdraw the broken item keeps it in the box AND corrupts whatever empty space it now takes up in the same way as the previous. The only way to get these out of your consumable inventory and get your slots back is to fill up your inventory, then find a Dream Wheel or someone being harassed by some thugs and push the corrupt item to your item box when you get your reward. You can't just pawn off the corrupt items either, since they're never meant to be in your consumable inventory, the storekeeper doesn't even show them on his list of sellables.

Or save editing. But at that point, I might as well just run an achievement unlocker. It's technically a "game breaking" bug, but not so much so that I can't work around it within the game itself. Hell, by the time I'm at 80% I'll probably understand it enough to abuse it somehow, there does seem to be some pattern to it.

I pray I don't encounter that bug you're experiencing, it sounds like hell. You sure you haven't found like someone experiencing the same thing and finding a fix? Also, what's with the crane game being near or 100%? I might've just misread it, but in the completionist progress, don't you need to just play it once as part of the "play every minigames at least once"? I don't remember seeing a goal there where you need to even win it. I'm still at chapter 1, but after the main boss fight, so pretty sure I'm close to ending the first chapter. It's just that there was an unexpected outage so I lost the motivation to play the game after that. Think I'll continue playing the next week and hopefully finish the storyline by the end of the week.

Curious as to what your experience was on this arcade minigame: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZN9WPXU4qc (Outrun: Get 5M points) It took me a few attempts to get it, and it's infuriating to restart because you have to wait for an unskippable cutscene to finish everytime you do so. Also, what's your go-to style? I've gotten used to rush because I'm really used to dashing and moving a lot in videogames. I just like fast-pace movements in general.

Ubisoft's F2P CoD clone, XDefiant, is out now. Looks like 13 straightforward achievements to unlock, with two that require grinding. It'll give me an excuse to try the game.

I've looked and as far as I can find, the item corruption appears to be a "common" bug exclusive to the PC version, and no one has been able to pin down exactly what causes it or why it happens and its frequency seems to vary from player to player. Some people don't get it at all, some get it infrequently, some people claim it's tied to the shrine items, some claim it's not. I'm hoping to suss it out at some point, but it's not the kind of thing I'm trying to intentionally trigger, so I may or may not figure it out. Depends on how it works with me, but dining and story/side events seem to cause it more than anything. If I had to guess, it's something to do with how the game probably has to reconstruct your inventory under the hood between these transitions.

As for the crane game, you do have to win every prize at least once for a completion point. There's 15 and I'd say they're all about the same difficulty to get, just like in real life, it's more a matter of when the crane feels like letting you win (or the geometry on the claw bugs and can't drop the prize until it's forced to at the prize drop, whichever comes first).

Outrun took me about 30 minutes to knock out, the only real difficulty in my opinion being how poorly early sprite scaling has aged. It's really hard to judge distance because it just looks like a mess, especially on a modern monitor, and turns just kind of pop in out of nowhere, making it more a challenge of memorizing a handful of levels rather than reactionary skill. The other arcade game you can do in the first 2 chapters has the same issue. The unskippable cutscenes annoy the hell out of me (and theres several attached to many mini-games) to the point that I'm considering figuring out how to write a macro script for toggling speedhack on and off in Cheat Engine on the fly. Gets really old having to watch Kiryu's intro dance every damn time I had to try a Disco track again.

Now that I'm starting to get used to the combat, I definitely prefer Rush over Brawl. I can drop a common group of thugs in about 5 seconds so long as Kiryu actually aims at who he's supposed to. Im definitely like you and prefer faster paced combat, and with the sheer grind in the way, its far far more time efficient to just barrage and move on.
I've learned that instead of immediately locking on to the nearest opponent, Kiryu really, REALLY prefers to lock on the the first God damn thing he can see in whatever direction he is facing when he loses a lock. It doesn't matter if the opponent is at the other end of the street while the other is literally humping his leg, he saw the one at the end of the street first, he wants that one.

Platinum'd New Vegas and it's DLCs on PS3. I wasn't even trying to, just played the game so much that it almost happened naturally. By the time I decided I was done playing I checked the trophy list and there was only a couple of easy ones left so I just finished it off (i.e. 10,000 explosive damage, because I neglected using explosives with my guy)

Last game I've 100% was South Park: The Stick of Truth. Greatest sin of any playthrough: missable collectibles. I had to use a guide to make sure I collected everything possible so my progress won't lock me out of certain collectibles or quests. Still a fun time around. Would I play it again? Maybe the XB1 version to have another achievement stack.

I wanted to get the remaining 2 achievements in Starfield (reach level 100 and hire 10 companions) so I could then uninstall the game but sadly the one about having 10 companions seems to be fucked.

I've been planning on 100% that game. I'm thinking of grabbing it the next time it gets a discount. I'm on the same boat as you with the missable collectibles, it's what made me buy South Park: The Fractured But Whole instead. Speaking of that game, it's over there with EBF5 as one of the best turn-based games I 100% mainly because of how unique the gameplay is compared to your average turn-based game and the crude humor. I've only seen gameplay of The Stick of Truth but SPTFBW is such a huge step up from it.

If you've played the game, I can't be the only one who thinks the game was somewhat easy even on the 2nd hardest difficulty. I only died once and it was when I was battling Fat Shaniqua because I didn't realize there was now a timer for your action. I'm also that guy that never uses limited items because of the "I have to save them for something more important" mentality so I never once used the calls (except once for the achievement). Also, the Gordon Freeman fight, people hyped that as the hardest battle, and they were right, but I came overprepared for it because once you corner him it's essentially over.

Also, the minigame where you and Scott twerk on 2 dudes, that was easily the worst part in the game. I was begging for it to end because I didn't want anyone entering my room and seeing that shit. Imagine having to explain to someone why you're playing a game with 2 kids twerking on 2 old men's face.

As in, the achievement is broken? If you use Steam, I'd just use SAM for it. You do the required task then give the cheevie manually. This should be used as a final resort though if there's really no other way.

Yeah, I've tried several times with my 2 characters and that achievement doesn't seem to unlock. I've looked at the Steam forums and some people have other achievements that didn't unlock. At first I thought that it was because I was using mods but my saves don't have the "M" next to them.
If the DLC coming out at the end of the year doesn't fix it, then I might use the SAM.

Speaking of discount, guess it's time.

Initially, I checked the game to see the discount on Incognito, I had my VPN set to Japan because there was a show I wanted to watch on Netflix that was Japan exclusive and this popped up:

I checked SteamDB and for some reason this game isn't available on Japan. I know the content and humor of the show don't connect well over there, but The Fractured But Whole is available.

So I looked for answers and saw this:
1716817978272.png

No answers, but it could be released, which never did on Steam so I checked the Ubisoft store and they never released it. You also can't buy The Fractured But Whole there too even though it's available on Steam. No joke, I checked the official game store on Sony JP and they didn't pop up, I even google translated bits of the title to the search bar. Nothing.

Just wanted to share something I encountered.

It's kinda funny. I straight up can't play games without achievements yet lose all interest the second I 100%. I like the ones that warrant 2-3 runs and done, not this type of "lmaoo 1 hit death replay" type shit. It's not fun or engaging.

Yeah because usually when you 100% a game, you've already seen what it has to offer or you've burnt yourself out by grinding the grindy ones. There are exceptions like Hades, but usually that's the case.

But you gotta admit, when you pull it off, it's almost euphoric. Achievements are suppose to be challenging after all, albeit some are just way too extreme. No deathless can work, like Super Meat Boy with their multiple deathless achievements.

I hate when games have overly long challenge runs. Like there is test of skill, and then there's test of how much of a welfare leech you are that you can waste hours trying to do a no hit run that takes an hour each try.

There's a few games I can think off the back that do these, like Jump King, but that one's for the actual hardcore gamers out there. I was watching someone 100% this game, and it's Splasher. You know what they were trying to get? A speedrun badge, alright that's pretty difficult, but here's a catch: YOU CAN'T DIE ONCE! They've combined the worst, and most difficult tasks in one badge. You also have to get platinum in a speedrun, and beat all levels with the platinum rating. Absolute hell. That mad man actually got all the achievements though believe it or not.
