Achievement Hunters Club - Wasted 300 hours of my life just for a platinum gang

I don't mean to brag, but I completed all the Vidmaster achievements and received my Recon armor in Halo 3... like that means anything anymore.
What was the hardest of the Vidmaster achievements? Actually, I heard that after they transitioned from Bungie.net to Halo Waypoint, Recon armor was just unlocked by default for everybody.

Speaking of Halo achievements, I remember spending a half hour unlocking the If They Came to Hear Me Beg... achievement in Reach.

Jumping, waiting, dying, sprinting, TRYING to get in range to assassinate the roaming Elite. Sometimes, you would and it wouldn't count for whatever reason.

Oh, that reminds me of the nero brothers minigame in ff9.
Got the achievement after 3 tries.
And it's 2.7% or less.
I've done 100% achievements in FF9 recently and it's honestly dumb how low some of them are. With a guide and the built in "cheats" like speed up and auto-9999, it's stupid easy to get them all in a day or two of solid grinding. The 10,000 kills one is a slog, but you can just rubberband a turbo controller with 'A' on auto for several hours to do that with no real effort.

If you want to be a real gamer, pick up something like Mouse Sneaking, boot it up, get your OJ and celery sticks, and get 3000 achievements in 2 hours. Afterwards you can spell "nigger" on your profile in several different fonts with achievements.

Yeah, everyone got Recon armor in the end. Three of the seven achievements were free bingo board spaces. Annual and Deja Vu where you complete 4 player online co-op on Legendary difficulty with the Iron Skull on the final missions of Halo 3 and Reach were the hardest of the seven. In both challenges, you weren't allowed any vehicle except for the Ghost and Mongoose respectively. In Deja Vu, you at least had a Rocket Launcher with 1,000 rockets? It was some absurdly high amount of payload that sometimes was a greater detriment than a help. You were essentially relying on the competency of your teammates to not die as well as the stability of your game connection to hold out long enough to complete the achievements.

After those two, Endure was probably next. You had to survive four sets of waves in Firefight on Heroic in a 4 player co-op team. Some players found this one harder than the previous two but the team I was with found a nice camping spot on one of the levels. I believe it was a pair of office cubicles with the entrances pointed directly at each other. Anything that entered the hallway between was jumped and focused down by four players. I'm not certain though since I'm going off of a memory of a game I haven't touched in... holy shit, 15 years? Well probably more like 14 but damn I'm getting old.

There was an achievement for completing a mission in ODST on Legendary without firing a bullet but a guide was quickly posted to the internet for it.

How did you do the King of Jump Rope? The real way or the way every normal sane human being did it?

I remember in the Halo 3 days a lot of people got the multiplayer achievements by changing their language to some random African country and then saying they only want go be partnered up with people from that country.

Then you and a bunch of people just work together to get all the achievements.

I know I gave up when I missed out on a triple kill with the sword and I never tried to get another multiplayer achievement ever again. I should've just cheated.

Auto-clicker, like a sane person. I wasn't about to spend 8+ hours perfecting that. Past 100 every single jump is pretty much frame perfect and I do not possess that level of tism. Even just mash clicking manually is pretty untenable because you have to do it for 5+ minutes. Did the foot racing legit but that's nowhere near as bullshit as KoJR is.

Technically, my achievement/trophy hunting journey started with the Ratchet & Clank trilogy. Each game in the series would have tasks for you to do to achieve a "skill point." Similar to achievements but in-game.

If achievements are done right, they can encourage replayability for a game,

I don't play specifically to get achievements. But it's nice to like achieve them. It still bugs me that I'm missing one for Bastion. I was able to beat all the dreams but the Stranger's with all ten idols invoked. I came so close several times. But one or two remaining enemies would always kill me. His dream is so long. He goes through the whole alphabet then still talks. The other dreams have like 2%ish of players getting the achievement.

I want to get the lousy t-shirt achievement for Ys Origin. Going through all the difficulties with each character isn't a problem. Although the grinding for the two hardest difficulties is excruciating. It's just that you can't skip in game cutscenes in the Steam version. So every time you go through the game you have sit through them. You can skip FMV cutscenes. But not the sometimes long ass character cutscenes where they chat forever. And I swear I beat nightmare with Yunica. I'm pretty sure I did yet did not get the achievement for nightmare with one character. Might have been an offline issue.

Xanadu Next has several bugged achievements making 100%ing the game very difficult. Plus the last achievement requires you to be the game in under six hours at a low level with five saves. Crazy. Yet a few people have done it. I don't have the patience. Just the bonus dungeon alone is killing me because there's an enemy that can lower your level. I'm willing to take a one level hit since I'm max level anyway. But not two. I'm missing one piece of equipment and just going down in there and getting it with those level lowering bastards is really annoying. I just want all items and to beat the secret boss. Why so hard Falcom?:(

I did 100% Vampire Survivors. But that's pretty easy compared to most other games.

Speaking of beating games in x amount of hours, I despise those so much, next to ironman achievements. I have a love and hate relationship with them. I hate them because having to do things all over again sucks. You could be 97% done with the achievement, and if you mess up once, you have to do everything all over again, no mercy. It doesn't help that the idea lingers in your mind, and the more progress you make, the more stressed you get which makes you prone to making mistakes. Now apply what I previously said and add a timer to tense you even more and you have speedrun achievements. Still, regardless of how ridiculous they are, the feeling of finally conquering the challenge, after so many hours put into it, is beautiful and makes you reconsider life.

I will absolutely go out of my way to get as many achievements possible in a game. It's a fun way to add a little more value to a game and completely optional for those that aren't interested.
However, any game that requires multiple playthroughs to get every achievement are excluded, very few games are worth playing through multiple times let alone for achievements.

>Your game of choice you love and want to 100% has multiplayer only achievements
>It's 10 years old and is not strictly multiplayer

Space marine 1 comes to mind. I loved that game and I'll never see it 100% because it has like 6 of those.

I hate these the most. Unless everyone buys the game almost exclusively for multiplayer (shit like CoD comes to mind) you are a faggot for including these in your game. You are putting an arbitrary time limit on your game that prevents your players from actually "completing" your game, even if it's just dumb "I did this arbitrary thing" stickers. You put that list there, so we feel the need to clear it. There's no sense in dangling the carrot in front of us and challenging us to get it if half way through you're just gonna piss on it, set it on fire, and walk away.

I've done this one several times now just to have something "platinum'd" on whatever platform I happen to pick it up on. As soon as you unlock Big Trousers, Disco of Gold and Greatest Jubilee, it's over. The game is now 99.9% afk, the only gameplay being setting up a build real quick. Sure, you could play without eggs, but they're in the game. If you don't want me using a feature that allows me to exploit most of the stats in the game having a literal cap of their integer limit to turn the entire game into a joke, don't give me the option. I'm a gamer, I will use the tools you give me to push things to their absolute limit.

For those who haven't played the game, this is no exaggeration. I've been using Luminaire Foscari, which has the passive ability to wipe all enemies on the screen every time she levels up, and she has 3k golden eggs. I literally don't even need to do anything to win. Her stats are so massive from the eggs that I can literally no-clip through walls

to add on that comment, you gotta form white stars with normal tiles, and black tiles from white stars. (each 3 and 6 black tiles to get the 2 hardest achievements)

here's a video to halfway imagine the pain of completing 2 games for those stupid cheevos on Hexic HD:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=k92gvWYDOjc
I remember that puzzle game. The video makes it look easy if you have concentration and foresight to plan for creating sunflowers and pearls. I didn't know there WAS an endgame for Hexic, unless you ran out of moves or failed to detonate a bomb piece.

it was always such a pain when the whole construct fell down and you had to start all over.

also off topic: today i learned that the creator of Tetris (Alexey Pajitnov), is also responsible for the Hexic games.

Use the Uplift Reserve level to zoom past everything with a Warthog or Ghost. I think it counts against you when you use the RT (fire) button in any way. In MCC, you could unlock several achievements at once with that guide.

Halo 3 was what started me to pursue multiplayer achievements. I had thought Lone Wolves was THE only way to play Halo 3 since I would exclusively play it.

My friend saw me buy Yakuza 0 on Steam and dared me to 100% the game, and since I'm not one to back off from a challenge I humbly accepted it :smug: Let's see how far I'll get before I inevitably give up because of some ridiculous challenge or grind.

The first 7 were on sale not too long ago. I started 0, did all the arcade games I can clear for now, then started on disco... then I looked through the rest of the guide...

Then I remembered I have to do this pretty much 7 times... Needless to say, it's gonna take me a while to do all 7. I have to be in a mood to plug away at something as big as these.

At least the later games should be more fun with their combat. I like 0, all the side stuff is really fun, but my god does the fact it's a ps2 game at its core show in its janky, miserable ass, finicky combat. I'm sure I'll get better at it eventually, but so far just mashing "fast attack" then doing a grab finisher feels like the only reliable way to get anything done. "Rush" mode feels useless because no matter how I time the dodges, its still more efficient to just jab rush and grab.

Its also really annoying having to check my inventory after every event because of the weird ass food corruption bug this version has. Seems to be random how frequent it happens per the player. I get it extremely frequently for some reason but at least it's easy enough to fix with a quick save and reset.

After reading Spud's post above me, I knew I felt a pain in my gut for a reason when I saw Majong pop up on the completion list.
