Ah ty. It always does seem that way, and Tbf a down payment on a house or getting a car without a loan is probably a better use of the money than a shiny ring that doesn’t really do anything except look nice.
I will look into getting the prongs shored up, it’s 18k white gold, seems sturdy, and since I got married I try to reduce the risk of loss by only wearing it on Sundays and special occasions. (More bc I’m worried about theft than stones falling out.) I’m sure the maker would reset it in Pt if I was willing to buy a new setting, they’re pretty good like that. I will look into what that might cost, knowing I can defray part of it by trading in the old setting.
As for how much it cost… I don’t want to say it straight out, but it was expensive enough that I felt a bit guilty leaving the shop (I had planned on getting a smaller stone, but he said that it’s best to go big; that it holds its value better.)
Engagement and wedding jewelry is one of the few times you can put your man up to proving he can provide for your future family by making him buy something fancy for you, so I’m there for it. He kind of gets it back anyway once you’re married, and if you follow his advice and get a really nice piece, that’s an heirloom you can hand down to your kids too.

Oh look the DMZ brigade, having spent hours going through my posts, found a post confiding something I myself volunteered in a way that was relevant to that particular discussion. Whatever will I do?
The post does not reveal any identifiable info, does not specify what the gal and I did or did not do, does not even specify when this happened, it's just an ancedote sharing my experiences with a word of caution, as it demonstrates a trend myself and others have observed.
How this is not just like what jambled did with @Feline Supremacist that incurred Null's wrath is beyond me.
