That’s fundamentally irrelevant to the question of whether they should protest the law by pulling out entirely.
In this case the law being passed would make the site unable to work effectively due to the need to make an entire infrastructure and only minority of the users willing to go through the process of verification. So it seems like a legitimate method of protesting

In an ideal society, Pornography would be banned, so I agree with the “idea” of this law by principle. But we live in a world where once you give the government bureaucrats an inch they’ll take the whole field. You said not to comment on the law or whatever but it’s intrinsic to, at least, most of the site’s opposition to it. The wording of the law itself says adult content and while it does seem to be directed towards pornographic websites it’s not a leap to say that some enterprising bureaucrat could take it upon himself to block access to a site like this under the same principle. After all, I’m sure there is indeed adult content on here.

I don’t think uploading your ID to some website is the answer. I don’t think that’s right at all, not in this world.

We have women on the fucking run here. They are being defeated. Porn is an important weapon against them. With porn women can no longer use sex as a weapon against men. Men no longer have to put up with any of their stupid shit just to fucking get off. All those videos of women sitting around complaining bitching and whining about how men aren't putting up with their stupid shit anymore. Porn helped make that a possibility. It won't take much longer and the bitches will break.

Holy incel. Listen dude, I hate to break it to you but women will find all the dick they need. You boycotting pussy just makes you suffer, and if you think the grubby embrace of your hand is the same as a relationship with a woman, then you've already lost the plot.

Also, you've got it backwards. Normalizing porn/OnlyFans and participating in the shitstorm that is online dating actually empowers the worst kinds of women. The solution is for good dudes to reward good women and get back to shaming and rejecting the vapid whores.

You say so but they didn’t raise that as their reason. Do you really think they have a moral right to protest as a corporate entity? It seems wrong to have corporations agitating for laws which increase their own profitability. I mean, even if you think this is a bad law you can still not like PH protesting.

To your point: Yes, there are compliance costs for them. Obviously it was cheaper when they didn’t have to enforce any restrictions. Now they’re crying foul and taking their ball home. However, there is the technical capability to develop robust and secure token-based age-verification platforms. If there was a demand, such as online retailers of alcohol and cigarettes actually verifying age, it would already be integrated into every iPhone’s security chip. It’s a bit cute to say we shouldn’t have any laws on the internet.

Edit:
I don’t think uploading your ID to some website is the answer. I don’t think that’s right at all, not in this world.
That’s not the only option you can use third-party platforms, which could be very easy and secure. I guess there’s no market to develop any because PH has taken their ball and gone home.

PornHub is fucking retarded and their argument is utterly ridiculous. they claim bullshit like the law hurts "content creators" by impacting "their ability to share the artistic messages they want to convey", lmao. they also say that "age-verification law was weaponized to censor LGBTQ+ literature, reproductive rights resources, sex education, art and healthcare." they're using the bullshit tactic of trying to present themselves as high-minded advocates of culture and freedom when they literally just run a barely curated porn video site. everyone sees this. it's shameful.

on the other hand, the law is retarded. here's the relevant text of it:

Sec. 129B.002. PUBLICATION OF MATERIAL HARMFUL TO MINORS.
(a) A commercial entity that knowingly and intentionally publishes
or distributes material on an Internet website, including a social
media platform, more than one-third of which is sexual material
harmful to minors, shall use reasonable age verification methods as
described by Section 129B.003 to verify that an individual
attempting to access the material is 18 years of age or older.
Sec. 129B.003. REASONABLE AGE VERIFICATION METHODS. (a)
In this section, "digital identification" means information stored
on a digital network that may be accessed by a commercial entity and
that serves as proof of the identity of an individual.
(b) A commercial entity that knowingly and intentionally
publishes or distributes material on an Internet website or a third
party that performs age verification under this chapter shall
require an individual to:
(1) provide digital identification; or
(2) comply with a commercial age verification system
that verifies age using:
(A) government-issued identification; or
(B) a commercially reasonable method that relies
on public or private transactional data to verify the age of an
individual.

so the Texas government is basically demanding that you register yourself with some kind of digital ID service or fuckin fax in a picture of your driver's license or some shit to be able to look at porn. the AG is enforcing it by the extremely retarded method of individually suing violators. for those of you unfamiliar, the highest offices of the TX state government are filled by idiots who are constantly stunting for a national platform. Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, and Ken Paxton are all disingenuous fags that pull bullshit like this precisely because they know it's not going to fly, but in the meantime it will get a bunch of press, and they can put on airs like they're just renegade morals-havers trying to do some good in our corrupt political system. as anybody should assume of any politician, they all have hidden motives, they don't actually care about any of these hills they're making a super big show of dying on, and as soon as this position becomes untenable they'll instantly abandon it while acting like they heroically fought with everything they had. it also juices up all the SJW non-profs around the country and gives everyone a great reason to send super melodramatic mass e-mails and buy billboards and shit about conservative tyranny and get some funding drives going. retard politics makes the money flow. BTW the text of the law specifies that any company i.e. ISPs that strictly provide access to a site hosting porn is not liable for said content so it's legal to just VPN out of state to get around any blocks.

I always thought it was generally accepted that corporations, especially privately owned ones, should be kept out of politics. Yet, nobody seems to care. Shouldn’t people be outraged by this behaviour?
Obviously as a privately-owned foreign company, they have no vested interest in the welfare of Texans. On the other hand, they have significant vested interest in the profitability of their own company. These laws negatively impact their profitability for a number of reasons.
You basically said everything yourself, they only care about profits, but saying it out loud would make them look bad, so they need to make up such bullshit excuses. I think they should've just been unapologetic about it.
"Your law is retarded, we ain't gonna implement shit, wave goodbye to our service!"

Do you really think they have a moral right to protest as a corporate entity? It seems wrong to have corporations agitating for laws which increase their own profitability. I mean, even if you think this is a bad law you can still not like PH protesting.
As long as it's not something not essential to life, a corporation removing a service in advance for a law that would make them do so anyways is justifiable.
It’s a bit cute to say we shouldn’t have any laws on the internet
I'd be for laws on the internet if a single one exist that actually helps reduce abuse rather than give politicians popularity and/or make you give your personal information to every website available.

This is retarded for several reasons. This sets a precedent for an actual internet license. Imagine needing a license to access this site or having to upload your state ID to use a simple forum. The left feels the same way about racism and everything else that the moral fags feel about porn.

Porn doesn't find kids on the internet. Kids find porn. I imagine if your "kid" is old enough to look up porn on the internet they are probably teenagers and not kids. They are going to seek out porn anyway because they are horny teenagers with no outlet for their sexual urges other than porn. If you don't want your "kids" looking at porn then stop being a lazy fuck and do your job as parent. Stop letting the family computer a phone tablet or whatever else babysit your kid. Do something with your fucking "kids". Porn is not jumping off the screen into your "kids" face and eyes. They have to look for it. If your "kid" is looking for big bimbo tits or milfs with big asses then they aren't really kids. You could always do what the Boomers did to Beavis and Butthead. Tell them that if they watch porn they will never score. They won't anyway and will end up jerking off to porn.

I don't understand what the moral fags are doing. It's like these stupid Boomer tier fucks want to take us back to the Boomer times when you had no porn and all the Boomers were so horny they would hump a fucking stump. That's how Boomers ended up in miserable marriages with fat bitches and ugly bitches. All porn does is keep men from making really bad life choices. That's all it does. It doesn't do anything else. All the normal people that can handle porn shouldn't be punished because a small number of nigger tier assholes can't keep their hands off their dicks for a minute.

Buuut if a bunch Boomer tier moral fag dumbfucks go after porn all they will do is give women their power back. These moral fags are some of the biggest faggot cuck simps alive.
Porn has fallen.

Millions of moralfags must marrymaxx.

>This is retarded for several reasons.
FUCKING HELL. In all seriousness, you described your own post there extremely accurately.

As for the actual thread:
As per the attached image, their justification is primarily moralistic. They are not pulling out because implementing such measures is impractical (as may be the case for a site such as kiwifarms). Instead, they are pulling out because they think age-verification on their site will a) impede Texan’s access to free speech on PornHub and b) increase the number of Texan’s who access porn on less sanitised websites, which may contain revenge-porn or child porn. Texan’s are objectively worse off on these metrics with no PornHub than an age-restricted PornHub. Therefore, we can conclude this is activism plain and simple.
What's your criteria for distinction here?
And why do you invest so much of the thread into this? Like, why does that make such a huge difference in your eyes?

I always thought it was generally accepted that corporations, especially privately owned ones, should be kept out of politics. Yet, nobody seems to care. Shouldn’t people be outraged by this behaviour?
Huh? No? What?
Nigger, you're an Amerimutt, you're from the land of Super-PACs, what are you on about? :story:

Irrelevant, anyone watching porn without a VPN gets what they fuckin' deserve, which is AIDS, in one form or another.
Damn man, feel great to not live in a shithole where porn is illegal.
That or you fell for youtube sponsors, which speaks of your intelectual caliber in that you should live in one.

Anyone under 18 has no business with a smartphone, and any parent that gives one to their children takes some responsibility when your kids get groomed. Why the fuck is babysitting your retard kids my problem? Maybe put down the chardonnay and look in on your kid every once in a while, Karen. You chose to have them, and it will be YOU who deals with them. Enjoy parenthood, stalker child.

It has nothing to do with any of that, it's about not letting companies gather data about what you like to jerk off too. And ironic that you question my "intelectual caliber" while being unable to spell "intellectual".

Stop watching porn and have sex with real women.
Have you compared the prices lately? Porn is basically free, maybe a new, larger, hard drive every now and then. Sex with real women starts at over a hundred dollars an hour and goes up from there.

Politics and Business have been deeply intertwined in the US for centuries now. It is only becoming apparent now because of the increased availability of information, especially pertaining to public officials and corporations/ corporation's CEO's.

It is difficult to come across a fortune 500 company that doesn't pander to politics in order to convince their audience that they are a superior business because they are "morally straight" or "progressive" or "LGBTQ Ally".

It's all a ruse in order to attract a wider variety of customers who's demographic profiles vary wildly.
