So while this does sorta fall under "climate change" spending, it's not really as silly as it sounds.

The reference to climate change concerns the fact that Germany has spent a record amount subsidising green energy projects, while raising levies on energy consumption that were already causing people pain, even before the silliness in Ukraine spiked gas prices through the roof. The budget shortfall is the result of that overspending on climate-related projects, which meant they then had to scrat around for cash to cover things like public transport. However one might try to frame it, Germany's problems are the result of their insane environmental and energy policies.

Things are getting a bit sticky. I've seen French farmer protests before, but they usually blockade the roads to major ports and border crossings in the north. Blockading Paris is a whole different thing.

Belgian farmers started blocking roads two days ago, around the same time as the French. The Germans are still at it. Now, the Spanish are joining in as well.

They're currently protesting in front of the European Parliament while being completely ignored by people inside congratulating themselves about giving another € 50B to Ukraine.

MEPs seem ready to talk about anything but the farmers right in front of them.

In Europe, at least in the Netherlands, police are led in traps using caltrops and heavy fireworks, which causes a lot of damage and make them turn around and flee. Many of the police force are also sympathetic to the protesters and some are even joining them. The police forces in Germany, France, the UK and the Netherlands had to deal with massive budget cuts, long unpaid hours and harassment so they are not overly enthusiast to wage their lives for a government whom don't give a fuck about them. And ironically the only group that have access to firearms are the farmers, they are all hunters, joined shooting clubs, and are able to fill your office with gallons of pig shit. But people are still getting used to to fight for their rights, the good times lasted to long and made them soft but more and more realize that change must be created by the people, not politics.
