Perfectly timed thread, since Germany is kicking off some fairly major ones next week starting on Monday the 8th.
The reason is the removal of a bunch of tax-reductions for farmers, including one on gods chosen fuel, diesel. Protests are planned across the country.
The city of Hamburg
er for example is facing registrations of 15 convoys and one stationary protest totalling an estimated 2000 agricultural machines. (german source)
Similar numbers can be expected for other cities. In addition to this, highways are also being targeted, with one group planning to completely lock down all 62 on and offramps of one.
Later in the month, there will also be protests blocking some logistics hubs and a more centralised one in the capitol of Berlin.
The farmers are accompanied by various other groups, including some truckers, a group representing hotels and an unknown number of small businesses.
Unrelated to this is also a planned strike by railway folks later that week, to the great dissatisfaction of German autists.
There was some smaller protest action during the past few weeks, including one where the leader of the green party was prevented from exiting a ferry by farmers.
The police there (allegedly) needed to use pepperspray to prevent a firery but peaceful storming of the ferry by the farmers and made some arrests.
The ferry had to return to unload the unloved politician somewhere else. Regrettably, he was not thrown overboard and made it home safely.
As
many a great philosopher has said before, "Get between a man and his diesel and thou shall see true evil."
