There's hordes of self-declared anarchists and communists who go on about being against the state and censorship and how information should be free for everybody (as long as it's not hateful), but cheer when our site is fucked with and goes through attempts at shutdown and deplatforming ("Kiwifarms is full of neo-nazi chud incel trumptard cultists who want to holocaust the heckin valid and brave trans people on the right side of history, we need to not just take them down, we need to physically hunt them down and imprison them all"), why shouldn't I cheer when these fags get censored and deplatformed (like when Edolf Muskler threw a bunch of liberal journos off Xitter or when pro-Palestine commies get hit with antisemitism charges)?
To be fair, cheering when these guys get a taste of their own medicine is perfectly understandable.
.... But that's not the kind of thing I was talking about. In that case you're just feeling good that bad people got their comeuppance. That does not amount to actually advocating censorship.
What does worry me on KF--something I've said a few different times (and I've had arguments with certain posters about) is... where does the buck stop?
Like I've seen Kiwis advocate for a ban on anything "progressive" in media. Which many are in favor of just because they read it as "stop the woke SJW shit."
Here's the problem I see: Suddenly I'm not allowed to read Robert E. Howard's "Sword Woman" stories because those star a wahmen and are thus now "progressive" under the new rules. OOPS.
Or oops, someone points out that HAL 9000 technically has no gender because its a computer--can't have that, that's tranny genderspecial bullshit now! BANNED!
You say this wouldn't happen, but this exact kind of shit was why people hated the more right-leaning moral guardians in the 70s and 80s. Writer Mark Evanier had a memory of a time he was told a boy scout cutting a rope with a pocket knife was too violent for a kids cartoon, not to mention the bullshit comic books went through (which is basically the reason American comics are a joke now).
And I've seen enough conversations on Deep Thoughts to know that I wouldn't trust Kiwis to make the rules. In fact, nobody who doesn't understand the concept of "you reap what you sow" should be allowed to make any rules.
