Some people don't even let people with any possible detergent residue on their swimsuits in their hot tubs because it can damage it. Imagine all the detergent, oil and dirt residue on their clothes. I'm sure it can't be good for a pool either.
That's the exact reason why public pools have showers: to get rid of sweat, sebum, detergents, deodorants, lotions, sunscreen, and anything else that might be clinging to your skin or your swimsuit; otherwise, the oils and chemicals (especially in sunscreen) will break down the pool lining over time.
