Serious question - how did progressives get so incredibly fucking stupid? Like they literally memed themselves into thinking that just not doing anything about crime could somehow turn out in some way other than it has. I really think they just reflexively do the opposite of anything anyone on the right says, even if it's obviously sane. "We should not legalize theft" shouldn't even be a political stance.

No, it's worse than that.
DNC encouragement of, and GOP impotence in the face of, Burn Loot Murder, has resulted in black jurors pulling a "KKK Jury" strategy of nullifying even the most heinous of murder charges, and sending whites away for life with 0 evidence.
At this point it's bad enough we need automatic venue changes by law to prevent it.

It's also why you can never nail them on hypocrisy, even when it's glaringly obvious, and why they never learn from their mistakes - effectively neutering one of the greatest tactics of the old-guard left - one way we used to be able to make in-roads even with people we openly disagreed with was the prospect of pointing out when they were doing the exact same thing they were critical of - it's why I (and presumably others) would rather have an hour or so arguing with a fundie than 10 minutes arguing with a neoprogressive.
The Fundie will at least acknowledge you have a point if you're moderately respectful of his beliefs while making your arguments.

Most of these progs come from backgrounds that favor protection from the outside world and constant coddling from their parents. In their eyes they can do no wrong, made even worse when they follow an ideology that thinks everything old is inherently evil for one reason or another and believes morality is subjective.
