Late, but this is sorta me. It's a 50/50 crapshoot to inherit the mutated BRCA gene. My late sibling had it, I do not. Their death at an early age destroyed the parent who contributed the gene.I wonder if the normal functioning siblings of children with fatal recessive genetic disorders ever feel survivor's guilt. They were so close to inheriting both bad genes...
It's not survivor's guilt, more like existential angst. Why did the dice roll this way? The mutation was there since conception. Like Harry, I feel like the spare.
Anyways, my ancestral country allowed, probably encouraged, cousin marriage, which is BAD for genetics.
