Alright buddy. The statistical analysis here is written such that it basically assumes "what if we randomly arranged a bunch of nucleotides and they fell into this arrangement? And they were also in the BLAST database too? What are the odds of that?" WHICH IS A SHITTY ASSUMPTION!There is a paper calculating a .0000000000321% that this happens naturally
Trouble is, when nature shits out a new species, its genetic code is usually the genetic code of something else, just mutated a bit. What i mean to say is that if the genetic code already matched some of the 19 nucleotides, the "odds" of the match are now way more likely. And I say it is, especially if what was there previously was meant to do the same exact thing, but with a bat's cells.
An analogy:
I'm gonna roll a d6 dice 6 times, what are the odds I get 6,6,6,6,6,6? (1 in 46656)
Versus,
I rolled a d6 dice 6 times, it gave me 6,6,4,6,5,6. I'm gonna re-roll 2 of the dice, what are the odds I get 6,6,6,6,6,6? (now 1 in 36)
Or going back to my bipedalism analogy, you act like a fish started walking on two feet, I act like an ape started walking on two feet.
Secondly, single-nucleotide mutations can potentially fuck up a virus (sickle cell disease is caused by a single nucleotide mutation) and so the presence of them (as mentioned in the article you linked), if anything, suggests the virus was not made in a lab since well, the virus was not inadvertently crippled.
