IMPORTANT: Writing a fantasy story, need advice now.

Gog & Magog

I didn't need to see that.

While making a generic fantasy setting full of the typical fantasy races, I wrote down a paragraph about racemixing and how it almost always produces no off-spring, and how it usually causes unfortunate things to befall those who partake in it like headaches, hair or scale loss, losing fingers, and blindness among other things. I don't want half-breeds or interracial sex mucking up the distinctiveness of the races but I realize this may be a very autistic way to prevent that. Have I gone too far in worldbuilding?

You could just say interracial breeding never produces offspring from a biological standpoint, no need to have god casually smiting anyone who gets pregnant. [Unless your fantasy story is intended to read like biblical fiction.]

How about interracial sex leading to an incurable terminal disease for the participants leading to pox and scarring that causes others to shun and exile them leading them to die alone in the wilds. The very idea of two races getting it on with each other would seem vile and repugnant to any sane member of your fantasy society.

Instead of "almost always" why not "always"? If a dog fucks a cat it doesn't make a half breed cog/dat, so if an orc culturally enriches an elf it shouldn't result in a half breed either, right?
I want the nobility to be the members of the races who can mix and produce children without any ill effects on them or their kids. Most of them are half-breeds by birth, although they do not inheret the physical traits of both parents at once, they either appear entirely like the mother or father for the most part. When a child who looks like both is born, he or she becomes larger and stronger than either parent. Destined for greatness you might say. It is both a blessing and an omen. There is a power struggle among these nobles to raise a line of pure half-breeds and conquer the world. Many other nobles consider this an existential threat to their kind and the current order of things. They don't want such children to exist, at least not if it belongs to another family. Yes, I am going all in on this autism. :)
EDIT: I just realized there is already a thread for worldbuilding. I feel dumb now.

It's ok; it's more about how well you describe it than what you describe.
Alternitively, describe the high mortality rate during childbirth and how people abuse childbirth with the goal of getting hybrids.
Arcanum excellently showed an example of the "miracles" of race mixing.

Different species should be able to produce offspring. You'd likely have too much genetic difference for the zygotes to form. I mean it seems unlikely that a Dwarf and a Orc would have the same number of chromosomes.

Sub-species might be able to but then you tend to have infertile offspring. But you could have interesting mixes

But if you want this type of mixing you'd have to have a common evolutionary ancestor. This could work for elves and human any maybe dwarves since they're all pretty humanlike but this would also remove a lot of the 'magical' aspects.

Its magical. My rational is leave it the reader. Interpretations vary by prophets and state religion but no one knows for sure where the races came from or why so few can mix without harm. There is evidence for this or that, just nothing conclusive.

well not really, since you have magic at your disposal you can just say there was a common ancestor that then magically adapted very radically in different ways forming very different kinds of subspecies.
But Id say its not really necessary. As long as your world is not directly connected to ours (by a character originating in ours for instance) I dont see how you would need to have your worlds laws conforming to ours. Just take it as a premise/axiom of that world and move on, it is a fictional world after all.
I guess my point in simple terms is: only worry about your premises being consistent, dont worry about your premises really being true or tautological.

You're conflicting with your primary post. Unless you include some sort of "chosen" mechanic into the universe to dissuade your everycreature from interracial marriage, the prospect of creating a noble would incentivize cross race breeding.

Also, this mechanic could bring fourth a later plot where someone discovers a way to manipulate the mechanic to decide who are the chosen ones and bring despair on the nobles as they fall prey to the very curse the rest of the world faces when race mixing.

Half breed supremacy?

Generally irl half breed brings down the average strength by reverting to the mean of the population.

If you want to promote mediocrity, race mixing is the way forward.

Whenever your story veers into "Characters become genre-savvy and start trying to minmax the ruleset" you've made a terrible mistake, unless the entire point of your story is a metacommentary on gaming and minmaxing.
See "Naruto" for the classic example of a story going off the rails into fantasy eugenics and munchkinry.

I don't know, mixing with the Neanderthals gave white people an edge.

If the entire white population (mean iq 100) mixed with the entire black population (mean iq 85) on a one to one ratio the resultant population would be mean IQ = 93.

The question is, is this an improvement or not?
