MrBeast overtakes PewDiePie as most-subscribed YouTuber

MrBeast has ended PewDiePie's reign as the YouTuber with the most subscribers - the first change at the top in almost 10 years.

Swedish creator PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, became the most-subscribed YouTuber in August 2013 with his gaming reaction videos.

In 2019, he was the first person to attract 100 million subscribers.

But the philanthropy of MrBeast, really called Jimmy Donaldson, gained him his 112 millionth subscriber this month.

Although YouTube does not show the exact numbers, that pushed him above PewDiePie's 111 million.

MrBeast is known for videos featuring huge cash giveaways and prizes, as well as charity work.

In 2021, he launched a separate philanthropy-themed YouTube channel, which itself has more than 10 million subscribers, and he has a licensed charity that functions as a food bank to feed communities across the US.

He and fellow YouTuber Mark Rober organised international collaborative fundraisers TeamSeas and TeamTrees, which focus on environmental issues - the latter raising more than $24m (£16.7m) to plant 20 million trees worldwide.

And PewDiePie himself donated almost $70,000 to the TeamTrees project.

Mastered the art

British YouTuber Steven Bridges, whose videos have millions of views on the platform, told the BBC MrBeast has "mastered the skill" of making compelling content.

"There's probably no other YouTuber in the world who understands it as well as MrBeast," he said.

"Making an entertaining video is one thing, but ensuring that every single second of a video keeps the viewer hooked is very difficult to pull off, and MrBeast's retention - the percent of the video the average viewer watches - and view counts speak for themselves.

"Really, MrBeast is playing the game of making the most entertaining videos that appeal to the biggest number of people, and he's consistently knocking it out of the park.

"I don't think there's any YouTuber out there that's surprised MrBeast has taken the number one spot."

T-Series

Though neither has yet commented on the milestone, PewDiePie previously said he thought MrBeast would "definitely" overtake him.

"I can't wait for it to be over," he joked in a video from August 2022. "He definitely deserves it. I hope he does it."

And while MrBeast has become the most-subscribed individual user on YouTube, he is some way off having the biggest YouTube channel.

T-Series, an Indian music video publishing company, leads the way in that category with more than 200 million subscribers.

Despite their apparent rivalry for the top YouTuber crown, MrBeast publicly supported PewDiePie when the music video channel rose to prominence.

In 2018, PewDiePie had the top YouTube channel altogether, and became embroiled in a - mostly jokey - public rivalry with T-Series over the top spot.

MrBeast was the first prominent YouTuber to make videos supporting PewDiePie, buying radio adverts and billboards in North Carolina urging people to subscribe to him.

Over the course of a year, PewDiePie eventually lost the top channel spot to T-Series, although he went from about 60 million to 90 million subscribers in the contest, making his lead as top YouTuber apparently unassailable.

That has ultimately proved not to be the case.

End of an era. I can't fucking stand MrBeast, him and his faggy pedobeard. Sure PewDiePie was never the pinnacle of content, but I'd rather have his screeching over video games for ten minutes straight over MrBeast's sanitized bullshit. MrBeast, while never a great YouTuber, was at least enjoyable back when he was doing shit like making fun of children's intros and microwaving microwaves, but unfortunately he wiped most of those videos when he switched over to making the garbage he does now.

Don't you have to be subscribed to him to get a chance to join into one of his game show things? That'd have to help a bit in driving up his subscriber numbers.

It probably helps that there's not a lot of content on Youtube that just seems 'nice' and game shows hardly seem like a thing on television anymore. With Mr Beast it's like a rapid fire showing of a different kind of game show every video so people don't get tired of it. Is there even any competition for this game show genre on youtube?

I can respect Mr. Beast a little bit for his initiatives such as #TeamTrees and #TeamSeas. Everything else I do not care for.

I feel his subscriber count is as high as it is because people get dopamine rushes from people being randomly given expensive gifts such as entire houses or a private jet. It's the Oprah Winfrey effect. Never mind the fact that nobody thinks of what happens after the cameras turnoff and the recipients settle down with said gifts that may lead to the donation being a white elephant more than anything else. An example might be the person who got a house for free realizing how high maintenance costs are, not being able to pay the property taxes, etc., and needing to go through the long process of trying to sell it.

To this day, I'm not entirely certain how he can afford to give away high ticket items such as these on a constant basis. Surely sponsorships and money from YouTube views can't subsidize the entire cost.
If he's given away a few thousands or millions to homeless people, then I wonder if those same homeless people are on their way of blowing it all again because they don't have the financial knowithow on keeping their wealth.

MrBeast might just be #1 for most obnoxious thumbnails, the guy really has mastered the dead-eyed soyface
That honor goes to SSSniperWolf. While MrBeast is obnoxious, he at least varies it up. SSSniperWolf literally just reuses the same five or so react pictures.

No matter how many trees he plants, no matter how many burgers he sells, no matter how many streamers he makes wet their adult diapers with totally not charged back donations, Mr Beast will always be dear to my heart as the pear shaped redneck who called 8 year olds with makeshift Leafy intros retarded.

Most of these videos don’t exist anymore but you could see a handful of occasions when his actual crabby personality comes out. I suspect his old videos are gone after the MSM went after him for ‘homophobia’ back when they could still pretend they could compete with Youtube, so he and Pewds have that in common.

Big youtubers make unfathomable amount of money and MrBeast is raking in millions a month across all his other channels, sponsors, and personal investments. Not to mention the tax write offs for all his charity work.

If you want to know more about big youtube giveaways. Danny Gonzalez made a video a while back about the tesla giveaways youtubers do and goes into the laws, fees, and contracts that goes into the giveaways and why they are awful. It's worth a watch.

Yeah some people would go on regular game shows with specific items in mind they hoped to win, since otherwise they'd probably turn it down to avoid paying the taxes.

Some gameshow winners are quick to tell you about the reality of their prizes. "The Price is Right" car winner Debra Field went into detail about the process when she spoke to the Asbury Park Press. She explained that after the taping, contestants are given a list of their prizes and must consent to pay California income taxes. Winners who live outside the state like Deborah can pick up their car at a local dealership, but only after they've sent in a certified check to pay off the sum tax of all the prizes they've chosen to keep. For some winners, that may mean going home empty-handed.

Who even is this retard? I've heard and seen things about his chocolate, that PRIME drink, and the fact that he's this rich as fuck retard who got rich by doing literally nothing.

But why is he the most subbed Youtuber now? What the fuck does this guy even do? What is so amazing about him and his content that is making him consistently on the top of all the boards?

TL;DR, why should I care?
When he was first blowing up, he did a lot of videos where he stopped random people on the street and if they were subbed to them he would give them a full, condomless blowjob. Ok, he actually just gave them a bunch of money. Once word got around that if you see this dude and you're subbed, he might suck your cock, his subs exploded.

From what I can gather; all he does is find people (somehow) and offer them money or to buy expensive shit for them... that's not compelling, that's literally lowest common denominator; and takes advantage of the same part of the brain that gambling addicts, thrill seekers, and the like suffer from. It's not that his content is good or whatever, it's that there's a certain thrill when it comes to money and big numbers. And part of that is people fantasize about them being in that situation and winning the big money. I'm not a fucking psychologist or anything, just a sperg who worked in a casino for several years and learned that there is a psychology about how people think, act, and how to get their attention as well as get them to spend money.

If you want to get moral; Mr. Beast is manipulating people by putting on grand shows of wealth that sucker people into a fantasy. Whether he knows it or not or wants to admit it, that's what he's doing. I'm not gonna make that argument though; he's a massive faggot and I would not have sex with him... ... ... might strong-arm rob him if I saw him on the street though.

That last part is a joke, calm the fuck down.

I don't know what it is exactly, but something about Rober sets off red-flags for me. An ex-NASA employee, who quit to go make YouTube (if you're financially set for life, I'm willing to understand), and at most all he does is try to Black-Science Man shit that people already know; even if they can't do the formulas and get all the numbers in the right place. Like when he went to an arcade and tried to cheat the system; yeah nigga, those ticket redemption machines are rigged harder than the fucking slots in Vegas. Anyone who's worked in an arcade could tell you that.

He’s also overtaken everyone in the global nasty ass burger ‘tache and gimpy buckteeth that make you sound like you’re lisping through a damp washcloth and you talk and look like a faggot competition/regatta.

Alright, since this is relevant I guess I can ask here. I'm not crazy when I say I think some of his videos are staged right? Like maybe not outright hoaxes but skits with the joke flying over people's heads. Someone is getting defensive at me suggesting that.

I've not seen much of his stuff but I saw one of his recent Youtube shorts where he offers $300 or so to go to Paris and get him a baguette, all expenses paid, and that seemed very fake.

Was bound to happen. Also, its youtube. People who are entertaining either get ratioed by the system or they jump onto different platforms. Its nothing but corpo-trash for the masses.

If youtube wasn't a censorious mess, Mr. Beast wouldn't be #1. It would be someone else entirely.

Regular game shows can be cute even if they're low stakes because of the banter and setup. Would I Lie To You has a similar vibe and there's not even prizes involved.

With Mr Beast he's done well creating some silly games for people to compete in. Was a little curious after seeing the thread pop up again so searched for what happened with some winners and there was one where the guy won $1 mil, but had to spend it all in one day. And there was this line:
After setting aside $340k for taxes, it seems that Mark is set for the future — a future that Mr Beast and crew helped improve for a person in need.
So it seems like they may be reasonable about making sure they don't end up with horror stories about the taxes these people could land themselves in.

Then you have this other little piece about someone merely competing in a challenge.
While the MrBeast video is just 15 minutes long, Li was actually in the Bahamas for five days from July 16 to 20. Even after arriving, Li and the rest of the contestants had no idea what challenges awaited them.
Basically means the whole group got a free vacation to the Bahamas which probably had to be a bit fun. Which seems like the main appeal of his shows, it's just groups of people taking part in some goofy challenges that all seem to be in a good mood.

But all that stuff means Beast regularly gets these puff pieces coming up and introducing him to possible new viewers. Not sure how you'd compete with that.
