I wouldn't call it a technicality. Literally, the case was dismissed based on the judgment that Vic was trying to prevent the defendants from exercising their free speech, even though everyone knows and agrees with the idea that this wasn't the case in practice.

But calling it a "technicality" downplays exactly what went wrong, the way I'm starting to understand the matter. It's like when people said that Cosby got off on a technicality, except that the "technicality" was "his constitutional rights were violated behind his back and his entire case was openly leveraged as fodder for political aspirations".

Principally, Ty fumbled at critical junctions in regards to the TCPA response and his evidences-- because he withdrew the affidavits and couldn't get the unsworn declarations to be admitted into evidence, they hardly had a case against the TCPA.

But additionally, Vic's own testimony wasn't incisive enough, and the result was that he did additional damage to his charges (especially in regards to Marchi, who was the weakest case). Even at his deposition, scheduled because he chose to sue people because they alleged that he was a rapist and serial sexual harasser alongside a smattering of mentally disturbed fujos, he tried to be charitable when it was unnecessary at best. Despite all of that, I don't begrudge him for effectively being soft-- I get trying to be fair at all, and these are people that he thought were his friends for years.

Doubtful. Ty most likely cleared the bank, so we have currently:

  • What he owed each of the 4 defendants initially(about 50k each)
  • A little under 3 years of interest payments on that previous judgement(Did anyone catch what that interest rate is?)
  • The costs associated with the appeal. There was an itemized list during the fees hearing if I recall. I am not digging for that exact number
  • What he owes Ron and Monica after the reassessment of fees. They were initially awarded 100k jointly, but their bill was 280-290k. It's doubtful they will get granted the full amount, but it will be a lot more than it currently is.
  • The sanction judgement(Which wasn't a lot if I recall. A few thousand or so).
We're looking at at least half a million here. More likely leading into the 6-800k range.

That's the legal system. It's sometimes slow AF. I think I shared an anecdote here years ago where I lawyer I worked for had to get a senior judge to poke the judge that was hearing one of her appeals. Then that judge literally got shot in the head and killed by a mentally deranged person outside a supermarket, and things backed up even further. Oftentimes, the complexity of the case has nothing to do with how long things take.

Nick's grandparents set up a trust for their descendants. It specifically names his parent and their descendants. Ty is the attorney that manages that trust. His grandparents were "we build hospitals" level of wealthy.

All i lot was respect for the legal system, Not that i had much to begin with.

Going to enjoy watching law twitter spin this as if they actually won, when most of it said they probably would have lost if the lawyer wasn't such a retard. But lawyers are all such retards that they cannot even comprehend winnining a case like this because they know they are too retarded.
 
Dumb ass lawyer tries to show just how low his legal dick swings and ends up tripping over it and screwing his client over for the sake of doing some fancy trick. Good job, Ty. Hopefully you learned not to fuck around just because you got on a semi-popular internet show and will do your job correctly from now on.

Also be thankful Vic's a nice guy and won't ream you the fuck out. Hopefully his opportunities keep working out for him. I think that thanks to Amber Heard being such a colossal fuck up that people are finally getting over the #MeToo bullshit and realizing the mess it is and how the courts don't always sort it out properly either.
