I feel like it being a week until she gives birth despite her being broken is a red flag. I'm no doctor or pregnant woman, but I'm not seeing anything online that says you should wait any longer than 2 days at the max.

She’s not in labor, nor having contractions, her water just broke. Labor should start soon after the water breaks, or more commonly the water breaks after labor has started, but neither has happened yet for Pantsu which is a bad sign. If labor doesn’t start naturally within the next few days they will induce her because once the water breaks the baby only has so much time it can survive in the womb. (This is why they are keeping her in the hospital - just to make sure the baby doesn’t go into distress or having failing vital signs while they wait for contractions to hopefully begin)

The 10 hour drive was not a good idea. I think she will end up with a c-section. Either way the baby arriving this early it will be in step-down or NICU for a few days to be safe.

The fact Ralph wasn’t worried out about her water breaking at 34 weeks shows what a moron he is.

I and the twins I had survived 7.5 weeks on hospital bed rest after PPROM (preterm premature rupture of membranes) at 26 weeks gestation. May needs to get ready for the most boring time of her life. Baby jail is real and it fucking sucks. I had monitoring three to four times a day to make sure the babies hearts were doing good. No one went anywhere near my vagina because the more they check that the more the risk of infection grows. I constantly felt like I was peeing out of my vagina because, well, I was. The constant leak of amniotic fluid as the baby continues to pee makes you go thru pads like nothing doing. If you are lucky the hole can seal back up and you might be able to go home. Might. You will get an IV of steroids to make the baby's lungs mature. Doctors will annoy the fuck out of you until the baby is born naturally or if they decide you need a c section asap.

May is very nonchalant for somebody with a very serious pregnancy complication. Shits getting real. If this is real that is.

This. There are plenty of reasons for chosing to go without an epidural. The #1 reason is that tearing is much more likely to happen with an epidural and more likely to be severe because the woman can't feel what they are doing and how hard they are pushing. Another reason is that with an epidural they will be given a catheter since they are now bedbound, their legs don't work anymore and they can't go to the bathroom on their own. Then there is risk of infection due to the catheter and at the sight of the epidural itself. Plus an epidural has risks too, it's jammed into your fucking back afterall and you can end up with permanent nerve damage or partially/fully paralyzed if it goes really badly.

Plenty of women also just want to walk around during the many hours they wait for labour to progress and be able to feel and move their bodies. The body kind of takes over during the birth and instinctually knows what to do. There are many reasons for at least attempting to try without an epidural first.

It's always kinda autistic when people on here throw the baby out with the bathwater (so to speak...ehem...), meaning that they feel the need to do a 180 and take the complete opposite stance of the lolcow in question, from the standpoint that whatever he or she is doing is always utterly retarded, therefore the opposite must be correct.
There are definitely plenty of benefits to going more or less completely natural. A lot of the modern advancements when it comes to child birth have been specifically designed to speed up the process and get woman, man and baby out the door to free up space and cut costs. I realize it may be different in places like the US where the patient ends up paying for much of it, but it's still a matter of logistics and being able to stay on schedule.

No, not at all, but what does that have to do with using pain meds while in labor? Women died from stalled labors, baby being positioned wrong and the big killer - puerperal fever (aka uterine infections) after birth.

We are discussing choosing to forgo pain meds or not during labor in a hospital, not a women telling the doctor to fuck off when the baby’s vitals are crashing and the doctor wants to perform a c-section or doing home births with no medical assistance.
