Trump Enslavement Syndrome - Orange man good. /r/The_Donald and any public demonstration of rabid pro-Trump enthusiasm in spite of all reason.

You have to understand the differences to really know what we're up against. Putin ranted about the Soviet nationalities policy because giving the Ukrainians, Belarusians, Georgians, etc. their own republics in the union made them not colonial subjects of the empire but - officially, anyway - equals to the Russians. They developed national identities, official cultures... thus, when it got to the point where they decided they didn't want to be part of the USSR anymore, it was easy for them to break off.

Putin clearly thinks they should have all been kept colonial subjects. Belarus is basically a puppet state run by Russia, and that's clearly what he planned for Ukraine until he alienated everyone there.
It begs the question. Putin's army aimed near a camp near Poland's borders. Does that mean he intends on escalating the war to other countries after he takes Ukraine?

Most of the countries on the Ukrainian border are in NATO. If he goes that far, then every NATO country will join in the war and things will get really ugly. I don't think Putin will go that far for one, because he's not suicidal, and for two, he's trying to get volunteers from Syria and weapons from China, which isn't something you do if you're succeeding in the third week of a war.

Alright, almost three weeks into the biggest fucking shitstorm of our lives so far, here’s my takeaways/updates for you anime avatars here who don’t want to dip into the Ukraine happening thread for good reason.

-Ukraine is losing, but slowly

Kharkiv hasn’t fallen yet and neither has Mariupol, which is significant. Both are very important border cities the Russians obviously planned taking within the first week. Kyiv is slowly, very slowly, being encircled. The Ukrainians are holding out far better than ever predicted and keep managing to strike command posts and supply elements, not to mention destroy armor elements. This is a bit like Mike Tyson in his twilight career (Russia) taking a bout with a welterweight and that welterweight lasting into round five. It’s not the best for that boxer but he’s still in the fight despite the hits he’s taken, and he’s given Tyson a black eye.

-Everything everyone expected out of the Russian military is not happening the way it should

They’ve finally managed to reorganize a bit and are actually using concentrated artillery and rocket barrages now, but the Russian ground support by air is still a mess, their supplies are still in a harsh position and in general they’re losing men and equipment they really can’t afford to lose in dumb ways in what seem to be the same dumb ways again and again. Heads are going to roll in the military command structure for this for sure. The Blyatzkrieg has failed to even approach the absolute fucking devestation of the American air campaign in Iraq in 2003 or the coalition brutally curbstomping Iraq in 1991. The Russians seem to have learned nothing from Georgia and gotten the completely wrong lessons from 2014 when they invaded Ukraine the first time.

-The reputation of the VDV is fucking destroyed

Hostemel airport was a risky move that cost them some of their best and all over Ukraine there’s burned out BMD’s. Irpin and Bucha have been slaughterhouses for them. And that’s just what we’ve confirmed for losses. They’re being used like mechanized infantry, except they’re in aluminum death traps.

-Propaganda from both sides is flying fast and thick but the Russians are lying a lot more than even I expected

The official figures from either MOD is absolutely bullshit (aside from maybe the Ukrainian tank kill claims as at least 2/3rds of that has photographic evidence of being destroyed, captured, or abandoned.). Best estimates are likely between 7 to 8 thousand dead Russians and 5 to 6 thousand dead Ukrainians, just counting combatants. Civilian death tolls from indiscriminate Russian bombardment are easily into the thousand plus range and will only continue to climb. The Russian tactic of obscuring and what about isms has been firmly met with the West going “yeah no, that’s bullshit Ivan”.

-Vatniks have been absolutely blown the fuck out

I cannot stress enough how cathartic this has been for so many milspergs who’ve had to deal with Russian nationalists, Serbians, and western retards crowing about the newest Russian gear being totally there in vast quantities and the best EVARR111!!1!11!!! And to then see it completely blown the fuck out by western tech from the 1980’s like the Javelin, using old almost fried missiles, old stingers, cheap Turkish drones, Warsaw Pact leftovers, and random farmers with a tractor and a desire to get a new piece of very expensive farm equipment. I have seen more T-72B’s destroyed than ever before, and the Russians have been fielding fucking T-72A’s, which are mid 70’s vintage tanks, in the front line. Their most advanced fighter bomber got shot down by a pensioner with an Igla he’d trained on in the 80’s when he was in the Red Army in East Germany. An SA-8 Gecko killed a modern Russian cruise missile. Someone took out a T-90A with a damn RPG-7. The Russian Air Force seems to have no answer to MANPAD’s or midrange air defense systems. There’s the possibility a Russian patrol boat (basically a coast guard cutter) got hit by Grad MLRS fire, but that’s still very unconfirmed. The Russians believed they’d neutralized the UAF day one but all indications are it’s been flying on and off again, and running drone strikes into hostile airspace under the noses of the vaunted Russian air defenses. This war has totally destroyed the reputation of Russia as a modernized military force.

All in all I expect at least another week of fighting.

Good post, but I'm not sure that I agree that "Ukraine is losing, but slowly". Ukraine's situation is unsustainable, true, but so is Russia's. If Russians could just indefinitely keep this force in Ukraine then I would completely agree, their overwhelming numbers would win out, but pressure back home, overstretched supply lines (they haven't done a great job securing their rear), potential military threats elsewhere (they've moved most of their army into Ukraine and they still have very angry neighbors), and generally low morale means that they could very well be in an even more dire situation than the Ukrainian army, after all they haven't taken a major city this entire war and by the time they finally take Kyiv they'll still have the rest of the country to take including the entire West of the country (I'd be shocked if the Ukrainian government didn't have a contingency plan for when Kyiv falls and I'd be just as shocked if the Russian army could effectively counter it), further stretching their exposed supply lines and demanding even more from their demoralized, underequipped, exhausted army.

At this point the whole thing is really up in the air.

I cannot believe that it’s becoming an actual narrative on the right that the USA is the bad guy and Russia is saving the day. Patriots, ladies and gents. No wonder they want so desperately to fly the confederate flag, they don’t actually like this country to begin with.
These are the same people who would never have shut up about how much they liked Hitler and Mussolini before we entered the war.

I should probably add some caveats:

- I think Ukraine could actually win considering the equipment headed their way, but as the facts stand now it's a race between the Russians getting there and their economy collapsing. On Wednesday they may actually default on their debt, and who knows what that'll lead to?

- I daresay Russia's propaganda operation may have been overstated. Evidently it needed a lot of buy-in from gullible suckers in the West - and there are very few gullible suckers now.

- They have old Soviet tanks coming from Khabarovsk, which is on the far eastern end of Russia, and that should probably say something. It used to be a point of pride in the USSR that Russia had advanced so far from the backward shithole it was under the Tsar that they got to space first. Things have apparently regressed.

- I think the war may actually be over by Easter, or a peace deal could be reached by then.

It's always been evident that NFTs are basically the kind of scam someone in a cartoon would come up with, but never more so than now.

I am taking way too much pleasure in seeing the Serbians on Twitter seething and going berserk.

Most Russians I see on there, aside from the Ultranationalists are like, "This is a stupid war and should never have happened," while the Serbs were gleefully cheering on Russian war crimes before they even happened and making Esoteric Schizo-Orthodox tweets about how due to a proclamation by Patriarch Kiril Drunkenski III that "Man cannot be man without God and Jews and Ukrainians are forever barred from God therefore are not men," Jesus would have approved of burning Kyiv to the ground.

I generally concur with everything you’re saying, and want to expand on a few things.

I definitely agree that the Russian war machine has been exposed as utterly and completely incompetent from top to bottom: logistics, command and control, morale, equipment, training, etc. One thing that continues to surprise me is that the Ukrainians somehow seem able to fly these cheap Turkish drones almost unopposed. I’ve watch tons of footage of missiles lased from drones toward tanks, and they’re just loitering in big lazy circles. Those things would be an absolute snack for any air defence, even those ancient Tunguskas that they seemed to bring along. They show up on radar for hundreds of miles in any direction, they have no RWR to alert the controller that they’re targeted, and even if they knew something was coming they can’t maneuver anyway. The fact that the Russians cannot have complete airspace denial of FUCKING UKRAINE says a lot.

Also, and this is a bit more off topic, but I believe that this is a continuing sign that the doctrine of nuclear deterrence has failed. The whole idea of the postwar 50s landscape — and in my opinion a very large reason peace in Europe was maintained after WW2 — was that war had become too risky an endeavour. All it took was a spiral of escalation to end up with nukes flying left and right. Even idiots like Mao, who openly admitted that a few billion dead humans was worth it if China came out on top, were shouted down by cooler heads. Sure we had our brushfire wars, but they were done via proxy and often didn’t come to direct blows between NATO and Warsaw trooops (officially). Total war was a thing of the past. Peace in our time, and all that.

But in MAD, we are now seeing that provocative powers like Russia and China are all too willing to goad the West, knowing that we also don’t want a nuclear holocaust. Knowing this, they have been emboldened to take greater and greater liberties, knowing that we don’t want “direct confrontation” with a nuclear power. The scary question is: how far can this be pushed, and what happens when the straw breaks the camel’s back finally?

As for the Russian war machine, how many of you know that the soldiers have been getting rations that expired seven years ago (some even from 2002 if the news I've heard is correct), and they're trying to get better ones from China?

But I'm not as pessimistic about nuclear deterrence as the above post. Russia is going into Ukraine because it isn't a NATO member. People think he's going to go into the Baltics, but all the Baltic states are in NATO. Like I said earlier, I don't think Putin is suicidal. They don't want confrontation with a nuclear power either.

I wonder though, now that Russia is being crippled due to the war, and China will soon be crippled with the worst outbreak of COVID it will ever have... what comes next? Back to American domination, no more fantasies of a multipolar world?

Big yikeserino if so, because MRESteve's videos on China's rations showed they sucked pretty hard and one made him mildly sick

Don't they know Putin is the good guy trying to stop Woke Ukraine from making more COVIDs? Why would he be in a gay relationship with Dementia Joe?!?
also don't forget that a lot of trump suckers now love Putin, so why are they trying to make him look gay? oh, yeah, they really don't understand anything to do with politics and just repeat anything they think "trolls the left"

I like how they can't decide if Ukraine is Nazis, or fully left-wing woke land
Russian propaganda has been all over the place and it’s kind of amazing watching the mental gymnastics happening with it. A strike on a base in western Ukraine has been turned into a big /pol/tard spam topic on /k/, to own Reddit (as if Reddit doesn’t do that to itself regularly). It’s where a lot of the volunteers from out of the country end up passing through. Meanwhile I’m wondering why the fuck they still haven’t struck power grids and shit like a normal functional military would with 900+ cruise/SRBM’s.

Of course, part of the issue with trying to spin this war is that Ukraines media game and image are really hard to beat right now. So of course, they seize on the lab idea to try and fool the right wing in the US and feed into their delusions. Which is where the biolabs thing comes from.
