As a casual fan of KoF and other SNK fighters (namely just Fatal Fury and SamSho) I had to tune out after 2 minutes. The valley girl accent and his condescending tone coupled with getting shit wrong at least once a minute just did me in. Will return once he starts getting his ass kicked in KoFXV.

I was kinda impressed that he could remember this much "on the fly™", but if most of it was wrong the he just did a grandpa Simpson segment on KoF lore and then I'm not so impressed

It wasn't most of it but a good chunk, especially when he veered into non-obvious lore.

I'll take my tism puzzles but this is partially off the top of my own head and partially I looked up cause I too like fighting games and find the history of them interesting, cause like phil I too grew up in the SF2 era playing SF2 in arcades..

Maybe one day phil will give me an unironic TIL.

Today is not that day, a Max or Roolfemonger he is not.

- Samsho was the first game with a "super" meter but it was more a rage meter
- you only cut people in half in Samsho when you won the match iirc with a heavy slash not when you did big damage
- TMNT Tournament was the first game to have an actual super meter
- Fatal Fury 2 was the first SNK game to have a side step
- Battle arena toshindin first non SNK game to have a side step mechanic
- his gods gift to fighting games SSTF2T came out in 94 half a year befoe KoF so not sure how KoF was the first game to have a super bar..

PP..how did you get that wrong?

- an arcade owner wouldn't know if a japanese game was in development especially in the 90's

Phil's caveman brain sees that there's different types of jumps in KoF compared to SF and of course his immediate conclusion is that KoF is all about jump-ins with no footsies. His defense is gonna be garbage, he's getting rekt as soon as his aggressive flowchart gameplay gets stuffed.

I went home to try it at lunch and planning on playing the team of King, Mai and maybe joe. Mai is very animated. Like Baiken in strive is some flashy anime, Mai is some top tier disney animation, her idle pose is like a very large newton's cradle with 2 balls. MAI BOUNCY after all.

so...should be interesting.
