Is it true people in the 80's made food in a microwave? I watch "Nat's what I reckon" and it always makes me laughing.
Basically. It was a wild new technology and the novelty of it was such that people were trying to use the microwave for everything. Ill-advised cookbooks showing people how to cook steaks, casseroles, and cakes in the microwave came out all over the place.
It was kind of like that unfortunate Jello fad in the 50s where people would suspend peas, mustard, grilled chicken, and elbow macaroni in gelatin and call it some kind of atomic future salad.

Holy moses I didn't even know what you wrote about the 50's. That sounds so creepy. Even like a dish from the microwave, sorry to hurt feelungz. I only make my food with pans, like I think most people do? I don't use that creepy packages with all chemicals and stuff in it.

Mayo. I can't even get near it. Eggs - fine. Oil - fine. But if you mix them together in the right way, eventually I hate it and I don't really know why.
It's no different than salad dressing which I guarantee you slurp down. Ranch dressing anyone? The only reason people dislike mayo so much is because niggers made a big deal about hating it over the last 20 something years.

I'm the first to admit my hatred of it is 100% irrational. I didn't know about the widespread dislike of it. I have hated it most of my life, probably because my dad puts huge globs of it on literally everything and it ended up subconsciously disgusting me.

I mean my mom's dad had an electronics store in like the 50s, 60s and 70s when microwaves and color TV were the hottest shit electronics, and mom had stories of her and her siblings being kind of latchkey kids because their mom had died and dad was always working, it was common to prepare like an actual meal, not just frozen food, in the microwave. Like throw a pork chop in there or some egg and veggie based cheesy casserole and cook it for like 10 minutes. Doesnt sound great but I remember looking through my other grandmas recipe box at one point and yeah they would have like "Microwaved bologna sandwich" or some shit. And I guess they still do that, with those frozen sandwiches and shit.

For the thread, the one food Im super picky and bitchy about is seafood. I cant stand the texture, how strong it smells--Ill try it every now and then if Im at a restaurant and a family member gets it or something, but theyve always made fun of me for it. Its dumb because its pretty common to dislike, and they are all far pickier eaters than I am.

That and most (prepackaged) "convenience" shit too now that I think of it.

Someone mentioned milk too. I remember being 6 and my grandma forcing me to drink some expired milk because she thought I was just being bratty about it, and it was chunky and I looked down and it had green chunks floating in it when you moved the glass. I remember running in circles around the dining room table crying and puking and then getting yelled at. I can do shit cooked with milk or made of milk, and can maybe drink a little of it in something else like a coffee drink but I hate plain milk for hurting me >:(

Theyll freak out at going to ethnic restaurants like SE Asian or Indian because "curry is weird and just smells like onions and cumin" (despite having never had it or going to a real Indian restaurant), so they only eat at Americana chain type places or super fancy well vetted places like (old name brand from, the 90s) steakhouses or bbq, and then theyll only get like two or three things off the menu, because, oh tomatoes are gross, broccoli smells like farts, salad needs to be iceberg and covered in dressing, I cant stand the color of avocado, Ive never had eggplant and wont eat mushrooms (Ill give them eggplant being lame), shit like that.

It took me YEARS to finally get into seafood, and it's only because of sushi that i eat fish at all - despite having a couple of (at one point) professional fisherman in the family. Even then i won't abide by anything that tastes "fishy". So only white fish for me and never anything reheated,

I was able to successfully get my mom to eat japanese food (which is her favorite cuisine now), slowly trying to repeat the success with Indian food.

One of the most foul tasting foods in existence is menma. This is fermented bamboo shoots, and is commonly found in Japanese ramen. It has such a awful rotten taste that lingers in your mouth, it more or less ruined ramen for me for a long time until I realized that's what I hate the most about ramen second only to those disgusting soy sauce soaked eggs.

Ketchup, ketchup, ketchup. I might actually be powerleveling by saying this. My hatred for ketchup is notorious among the people that I know, lol. I hate the smell, texture, presentation, and obviously taste. And ketchup sounds like wet farts when people squeeze it out of a bottle, so ... It offends literally all five of my senses.

I also really despise canned greenbeans. For most of my life, I thought that I hated all greenbeans. Turns out, it's just that everyone I know who prepared them for me used the canned shit. Fresh and frozen greenbeans are totally fine for me, and I'm actually a fan of those. Fresh and frozen greenbeans taste bright and, well, green. Canned greenbeans taste like burnt rubber, and the texture is disgustingly slimey. Ick.

I’ve probably said this before, but baklava. It’s all the things I dislike combined into one food. Dry, papery, and full of nuts.

Eggplant paste. It might have been the people behind being bad at making it, but both times I tried it, it gave me the most repulsive taste I ever felt.
