I also like the ambiguity of 'change that'.
Well that's more like a "direct command".
What's really ambiguous is what Phil means by "support". It's an extremely sugar-coated way of saying "pay me", because one could look at it and think supporting a streamer could entail simply showing up, subscribing, liking the vidoe, etcetera.
Why do his playthroughs need support? Usually in the context of supporting a project, one has to help it make the necessary funds in order to keep going or helping with investments. So what is the exact metric a playthrough needs in order to continue? Does Phil invest any more money into a playthrough than the initial amount he paid in order to play the game?
Lost Judgement should have long exceeded it with the $1000 tips war. And Game Pass games shouldn't require that much support because they're so cheap to play.
He talks about people needing to donate so he can maintain streaming as his livelihood, but why is that the responsibility of the viewer? Moreover he refuses to explain exactly why the money he gets from Youtube isn't enough to keep his lifestyle the way it is, despite claiming he's "cut every expense" in a household without children.
Christ it's no wonder the only people who aren't banned at this point are those who tip and then leave the streams without asking any questions. Remember that one Superchatter who asked if Phil was hosting a charity cause with his obscene $150 Tips Goal so Phil got assblasted, banned him, and then changed the Goal to 50 increments to hide how much he was actually asking for?

Do you guys think the ear infections are caused by a feedback loop?
dude showers once a week, so he's likely filthy.
he wears headphones building up moisture and filth in them
his ears get infected.
he never cleans the headphones and he almost never showers.

I decided to clip this. I'm still not exactly sure what's tear jerking about this scene, but I guess if I were a con man with a dwindling fan base I'd be prone to emotional outbursts too.

What I think went through his head:

Phil sits alone watching a cutscene he doesn’t care about in complete silence and misery. He lets his drunken mind wander and he tries to fill gin addled brain with thoughts of the worthless jpegs he will buy today. This doesn’t make him feel better so instead he tries to reflect on how great his life is. He tries to think about all the friends he has had, and of his loving wife. However his barely functioning neurons instead force him to ponder questions he hates. Questions that haunt him when he is alone at night on the couch in a drunken stupor. Questions like: When have I last felt a warm embrace? When was the last time I hugged my mother? When when was the last time someone put their hand on my shoulder? These questions have begun to come up in increasing frequency and they are eating away at his soul. He feels sick and his eyes begin to water. He tries to control the tears and snot that are welling up but like every other task in his life he fails at it completely. Tears stream down his unwashed and misshapen face. His audience spams the chat with stupid emotes and the same three questions. He stares at them with absolute contempt and hatred. Phil can hardly bear to look at the unhit tips goal so he brings his eyes to the characters on the screen. They have the one thing he doesn’t: human connections. Phil wishes he could wake up tomorrow and be anyone else but he knows that he is stuck as Phillip Paul Burnell for the rest of his life.

Thats maybe a little too dramatic but this pretty much confirms he is miserable, the only way he could break down so easily is the game tapping in something he was already feeling

That's an interesting theory. I think his booze-addled mind interprets strictly okay writing (it's a comic book video game from the studio probably facing a layoff because someone thought Deus Ex could make Doom money) as being a moment to elicit emotion, and he cried as if Pavlov rang a bell.

Either way, alcohol is involved.

You know what. And you don't have to agree with me, but. He could turn it around overnight. He has over 200,000 posts telling him where he has gone wrong. I don't think he has any really burned bridges from anyone who *really* cares. Except like Leanna. Oh and Howard. But if he called his folks right now and told them he needs real help. They seem like the kind who would. I betcha even Rambo, would sit and have a real goddamn phone conversation with him still. To say nothing of his fucking wife living in his fucking house. If he just came down right now gave her a hug and told her he wants to change, her fucking autism would be confused, but I'd put down money that she would.

And thats just those people. God knows why, but he has fans. And a great deal of them would probably go hang out with him, if he asked. And shit, if he started making the change, he could probably walk in to an arcade and have a good day with some west coast FGC.

I see you looking at that optimistic button. And I am gonna ask you to hold on. Because I know he won't. I just wanted to highlight something here.

That he is a goddamn cartoon character surrounded by actual people. He has been scummy and shitty. But, rarely in an unforgivable way to a great deal of the most important people in his life. And moreover, he has and had some of the most patient and tolerant fucking humans around. Between fans, family and friends, they all put up with a lot of shit. And by all fucking accounts, it wouldn't be hard to reconnect.

Almost.

Because he would have to apologize. He would have to come clean. He would lose whales. And he would have to deal with at least his dad reaming his ass for lying to his mom. He would have to own up to Rambo and the shitty way he treated him, and those around him. And he would have to live in doubt for ages with a lot of people. But he could maybe have his wife back. He could maybe have his best friend back. He would certainly have his parents back. He could even possibly make new friends.

But he won't. Because he did nothing wrong

My theory is that he briefly sympathized with Star Lord, because Star Lord did not have an opportunity to collect inheritance when his mother died.
If that happened to Phil, he'd be devastated.

I watched the clip and I couldn’t believe it. I really think the entire portion of crying before obvious clown-mode is true and honest.

Some of you have hypothesized this already but I really do think his reaction to the Star-Lord comments solidify that Mama Burnell is sick.

Dave is the biggest mamas boy and he always has been. I theorize much of his personality came from his mother, and I know she has always been the one to look out for him in the past begging years.

I think Mama Burrell is sick, and before you say “he would tell us to make $$$” I think I disagree. Phil keeps the details of his real life super close to his chest, and only reveals things when he knows they will go public. Revealing Kat was about gloating because he was insecure with being single. He isn’t revealing the truth about his mother because he would be trolled endlessly, and he would get emotional. I really do think that if she’s already dead, he wouldn’t say anything either. What hurts Phil is the truth, he absolutely cannot take it, and he won’t open up another front by which he can be attacked unless he absolutely has to. His financials are too good to divulge this information.

In the future, during some 200 person begging segment I imagine him revealing “You know why I was crying during Guardians of the Galaxy like a million years ago? It was because my mom was SICK man!”

Those of you who think it’s because he didn’t live a life with purpose are a bit too :optimistic: in my humble opinion. The guy is a narcissist he is not wired to have revelations like that. The guy is selfish and driven by self-interest. The only thing that would actually make him cry is something he is actually sensitive about, ie his mom.

If he's a narcissist he wouldn't get upset if his mom was sick unless he's still getting something from her. There's probably nothing to read into it really, there almost never is. He's just an odd, fat, gross, incredibly flawed person.

Gunna press X for doubt on that one. If his mahm was sick we'd never hear the end of it; perfect beg bait until she croaks and he gets inheritance money and another excuse for a begathon.

Now I'd believe she may be sick and he is keeping a lid on it since his massive begathon skill is currently on cooldown due to spamming it. But I doubt it would drive him to tears she was sick, what would drive him to tears would be that she is sick, but he can't profit from it.

What are the chances that he does these face cam prestreams cause he is trying to rip off what Maximilian Dood does ?
You may think that i'm looking to think deep into it .... but there's something about the pretentious way he pigsplains things that makes me think he is going for the max vibes

Fun fact he is already talking about playing the new pokemon games but no mention of metroid dread anymore lol
It's always funny to see Phil run away from Dread, but Pokemon has always been an easy pick for him. His retarrrrr viewers get to have their donation fights to name his 100th pokemon he'll never use Gorescrote or something equally childish that Phil likes, and Phil just gets to pause the game and wait for those last second tips! Win-win. He gets money and hardly has to even play the game.

Plenty of serial killers demonstrated conditional empathy for pets, loved ones, wives, etc. It's not a switch that's either on or off. NPD describes a predilection for low empathy but this is by no means absolute.

Phil probably has his parents, at least Mom, no matter what. He's their only child and spoiled him beyond belief.

Other than that, nobody really cares. John was his real friend, but judging by the video he did, that bridge was finally burnt. Leanna did for a while, but even that was because she's a star chaser and was foolish in her youth. I highly doubt Catherine ever has. And I can't blame Phil for distancing himself from his few legit wheelchair fans.
