Unfortunately, a lot of beloved comedies do not hold up over time. Audiences are a lot harder to tickle now.

Batman Returns is much harder to defend

Too many villains, villains getting killed by their own tech/magic, no scene where the villains' powers are explained, all of their minions magically flee/die... Returns practically the wrote the book on bad capeshit.

The ending slaps, though. Bruce Wayne has a cat 10/10 would recommend. ‍

I still believe, without clinging hopelessly to nostalgia, that the 89 Batman has aged well. Shit, I'll even defend the Prince music. It's at least better than all of the Marvel shit. It has a unique art style and pacing with Tim Burton at his peak and it's unique among super hero flicks because we spend most of our time with the villain instead of the hero.

Batman Returns is a train wreck but it's a fascinating one. The aesthetics, the music, all that is top notch but the story and dialogue are sub par. Still has some great moments and I relegate it as a guilty pleasure.

Batman Returns is a beautiful mess of a film. It looks fantastic, and I love Pfiffer as Catwoman, which are the main reasons I return to the movie every few years or so. But that script is a total jumbled mess.

One that hasn't aged well for me is He-Man and She-Ra: Secret of the Sword. He-Man was my jam when I was a kid, and I watched the movie so much that I broke the tape. Seeing it as an adult though, not only are Filmation's obvious limitations front and center, but the lack of focus within the story becomes more apparent too. To make this "movie" they simply took the first five episodes of She-Ra and spliced them together to make it feature length. This is painfully obvious when watching as an adult as the focus of the plot shifts every 10 minutes it seems. Skeletor comes the fuck out of nowhere to high jack the movie for a bit, and is then dispatched, the Horde gets a super weapon that you think is going to play into the climax, but is destroyed after a few minutes, He-Man gets captured and taken to Beast Island and that gets resolved after a few minutes...the whole movie is like that.

I distinctly remember liking Pierce Brosnan when he was new. Some years ago, I was channel surfing with two girls I know, and I decided to show them The World is Not Enough. Oof. You know that sinking feeling when you realize your friends don't GAF about your interests?

And I don't blame them. That movie is janky. Moreso than I remembered.

For me it's the opposite. I saw it when I was a kid and found it aggressively mediocre. Everything was so by the numbers and the writing was positively Abrams-esque thanks to Purvis & Wade, who were just beginning their murder of the series. Renard couldn't have been a gayer villain if he had sucked a hundred dicks, and the Garbage song was generic noise.

Twenty years later and it plays so much better. It's still an average Bond film, but compared to all the bullshit we've been subjected to by Current Year it's a masterpiece. It has a hot lead actress, a leading man who fucks women instead of falling in love with them for fifteen years despite knowing them for only two days, and lots of practical effects. Also that late '90s charm. It's still kind of boring, but my god movies today are so bad. So so bad.

Plus it had the final scene with the real Q.

I think in my early 20’s the slacker movie genre felt empowering, to say “fuck it” and not care about ambition and just revel in consumerism like Brody in Mallrats. Rewatching that movie is impossible to do now, it’s just so fucking unappealing. Brodie is a lolcow and a terrible protagonist.

Showed someone the original Fright Night and by the end realized it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered. The setup is still strong but the third act drops the ball. It really drags and the longer it goes the less you care and the more you just want to see credit.

Literally two scripts smushed together with no interest or ability to make them thematically consistent. But it was the first TNG movie that nailed action, so like RE4, the movies after it had to follow suit.

I haven't rewatched this learning this, however, Leon is now unwatchable to me now with whats came out about Luc Besson and reading how the actora had to fight to tone down the shit that was in the script originally.

The five or so rape claims were dismissed after a second investigation. I see it as some sick fuck (creep not a pedo) trying to be edgy.

I got that feeling from Monster Squad. It's supposed to be an awesome movie everyone loves, but to me they never quite nail the humor and it kind of drags a bit. Maybe it's one of those "you had to be there" kind of movies.

Overall its a fun film, with great set pieces, charm, and fun through-out. I don’t understand why it gets the hate it does, compared to other modern bond films.

To add to the love, I think Pierce gives his best performance in TWINE, and the score is somewhat underrated. It's one of the few Bond soundtracks I own, and even the weird cabaret song about some old guy pining for his lost love isn't bad (and hits harder when you're older).

I don't really care for the buzzsaw set piece, but the rest of the action is solid and has a subdued down-to-earth quality that sets it apart from the rest of Brosnan's entries. It's his second best movie after Goldeneye, but with just a few tweaks, better writing (Renard really doesn't do much), and someone other than Denise Richards, it could have been an all-time classic, but by then they were just churning them out every two years and making the release date was more important than getting it right.

Agree, the soundtrack is fantastic. I used to used the first 6 songs as my soundtrack when playing counterstrike.

Unpopular opinion, but Do The Right Thing

Due to Critical Race Theory™, almost all of the characters would be raceswapped instead of Mookie.

That and Spike Lee would look like cartoon compared to the amount of anti-white sentiment being subtly portrayed in education. Apart from the rioting scene when he threw the trash can in the pizzeria, this movie deserves to be overrated in my eyes, even if the cinematography did look pretty.
