Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Let me go down the list whodunnit style:

Zepla, MTQ, Stal, etc (TRUE AND HONEST WAHMEN):
Near 0% chance. Women only really look at leaking information as a potential status gain if it's information that's about or could affect interpersonal relationships. They'll leak stuff to destroy another person's life but probably won't leak class details for clout among raiders (especially since they're already high-status in that group). Only way it'd be one of them is if they were angling to pin it on someone else and get them excommunicated from the community. But still highly unlikely.

MrBrappy
This guy is as close to an 'official mouthpiece' content creator as they come. He corresponds with yoshi-p semi-regularly and has probably been trusted with prerelease information long before the media tour was even a thing. As he's never leaked anything in the past and is apparently a tight-ass even to people he's close to, I highly doubt it's him. The only way it might possibly happen is if he started working on his vids early and handed off the footage to an unscrupulous editor or something. The goodest of goodboi FFXIV creators to the point where he'd probably get a pass from yoshi-p himself even if he did turn out to be the leaker. About as likely as the wahmen.

Larryzaur
Took an extended break from content creation around the release of Shadowbringers because he had a child. Has dipped his toes into other games so his brand isn't as tightly bound to FF14. I still consider it unlikely because he's very explicitly a casual raider and prefers the less tightly-tuned stuff like Eureka and hunts etc. Like with Happ, he might unintentionally be the leaker via an unscrupulous editor but as far as I know it's just him and his wife who work on the vids. Unless his wife is ambling to ruin him or something, I don't think Larry is the leaker.

Meoni, Desperius, Ilya (third-string youtube content creators)
All have recent drama that would make them consider nuking relations with the community as a possible option. All are Euros and therefore highly duplicitous (especially Meoni, the eternal anglo). Still not very likely since these guys don't like to do 'speculation' content and instead focus on things that are already in the game.

Xenos and Arthars
Whiny raidloggers but also not very cliquish. Both of them regularly jump around data centers for different raid scenes and raid with randos from their chats, so they don't really have a coterie of raidtroons to impress. Neither are on the media tour so they'd have to have swiped the footage from someone on it. Can't see it tbh.

sfia
Has his hands in many pies and despite not being on the media tour, could probably browbeat someone who is into sharing deets with him. Apparently has a strained relationship with the other members of TpS and has been struggling to fix that. Motive and possible means, but also he's retarded and busy farming clout in other ways.

Suspect #1: Rin
Simpering soy-filled beta male who reminds me of Taliesin. Desperate for Twitter clout and for approval from other raiders. Has a bad habit of running his mouth and then having to walk things back. I don't know who let him on the media tour, but they need to be fired. Highly likely.

Suspect #2: Asmongold
Unstable NEET goblin who has fuck you money and might resent the spotlight being on him during such a tumultuous time in his life. Has been known to self-sabotage in the past. Also really bad streamdeck discipline and has streamed gameplay footage without realizing it in the past. I don't think it's him personally because I think Rich and the rest of the OTK guys would have come out with a PR statement the second the leaks became public to try and soften the blow (and also throw Asmon under the bus). He has done some insane shit in the past though, so who fucking knows.

Suspect #3: WAITO PIGGU GO HOME
The schizo theory. A certain segment of the JP playerbase has always resented the amount of attention SE pays to the foreign fans and a crazed netouyo could conceivably use these leaks to smear foreign players as untrustworthy and push SE to interact less with them. 天皇陛下万歳 ! ! !
The people who leak it would be people associated with the balance discord so Rin, stal, sfia and a few others. @Tachibana would know more about this since he's talked about the balance in the past about how they have private channels to stalk and harrass players who don't do big enough numbers for them in party finder. They want the information as soon as possible because icy veins announced their own site for FFXIV that has all information be public instead of being locked behind a discord server.

Also clips of Rin have surfaced of him acting like a sociopath because they don't talk to him "correctly" and he melts down over mistakes, calling them cocksuckers. This has made him do the "I'm human too" BS tweets you see all the time when their mask slips.

@Shqueefa
KF not letting me share image so here’s Rin statement from Reddit.

Yeah there’s no doubt in the back of my mind this scummy fuck did this. I have no doubt he shared this on his discord and will probably attempt to throw his discord friends under the bus as the ones who leaked it.

You have to save the image and then upload it directly instead of copy pasting it

I guess if we find out that square denies any more involvement with this person then we'll know who the leaker was lol

The latest escapade is she decided to smoke while on an oxygen tank, and set it off. Asmon heard it by chance, and got into the room to catch his mom, the oxygen line, and part of the room on fire.

holy shit lol. my grandmother did the same thing, chain smoked while on oxygen, sitting next to three more or less full tanks with one tapped at all times, living by herself in a rural town, I kept waiting to hear somebody had gone to check on her only to find the entire fucking house leveled and nothing left but ashes. but somehow she did that for years without anything happening, the fucking crone ended up clawing her way past 90 and dying peacefully in an elders' resort (COD non-smoking-related, no less), just goes to show you that being an insufferable bitter asshole is a great way to extend your life, maybe the fact that her son is a disappointing piece of shit will keep her hanging on a bit longer

@Tachibana would know more about this since he's talked about the balance in the past about how they have private channels to stalk and harrass players who don't do big enough numbers for them in party finder.

lol wut?

A few years ago, various people on the Balance discord were involved in stalking/harassing a guy on Aether because of his poor performance/him throwing fits. Think of a lolcow except people are involved in milking them. The guy made his own parties and nobody was obligated to play with him.

Balance Discord staff had secret channels for years where they would make fun of people in the discord/community. This is confirmed by an ex-balance mentor who ran the saltedxiv website.

The Balance is a microcosm of people having a modicum of power on the internet in a gated community. Some of the people on there live Final Fantasy 14. That's why it's not surprising if leaks come from there. Many of the people running that place are spergs like Rin is.

I don't think that's the case, Asmon is a multi-millionare and regardless of the fact that it's from playing video games, I think any parent (even retarded boomers) would be proud of their offspring for having a self-made 7 to 8 figure networth. Asmon's Mom is just a stubborn boomer who can't stop smoking because nicotine is just that addictive.

Most of the balance's guides feel kinda worthless and autistic compared to shorter and sweeter breakdowns like alber wesker anyways

Idk if that nigga is a sperg because all i care about are his class videos but they shit all over the balance because they dont assume you're as autistic as your average raid tranny so the rotations and general tips & tricks are simpler

If Icy Veins can adapt their web design for an FF site, it's fucking over for the balance. Hell, it might be over for Teamcraft's budding site for DoH/DoL info.
One can only hope. Balance guides are of wild varying qualities. Trying to learn a different job sucks because the format is different for each guide or the guide sucks at explaining concisely.

Coherent guides with similar formats across jobs would do wonders.

The balance discord seems to hate some youtubers. Desperius FFXIV was banned for posting his video guides on the balance. A bunch of mentors got mad that his content isn't accurate enough or contains minor inaccuracies.

If you use the balance's opener in your video, you're stealing their content for views and money even though balance mentors do it for free.

If you make your own opener, it's not optimal and they'll harass/rage at you.

Just can't win.

AlbertWesker is probably the best guide maker for this game. Zero bullshit, just skill explanations in leveling order, rotations at various level capstones, and explanations about how to craft your own openers for different levels and types of content. Him, Misshapen Chair, and joonbob all give me a lot of optimism for the quality of FFXIV content in contrast to SnoreTQ and MrBrappy.

The Balance is just a dumb holdover from WoW, FFXIV classes have always largely been learnable just by reading tooltips and in some rarer cases applying a little intuition towards how mechanics interact. you don't need sim spreadsheets to reverse-engineer the damage formula and shit. The Balance are the guys telling you that having a NIN in your static is absolutely fucking non-negotiable because it's like a 1% raid damage increase and lmao why would you even bother doing real content if you can't even optimize your burst windows retard just stick with roulettes. in WoW that level of sperg has always been necessary because WoW's internal damage calculation mechanics have been varying levels of retarded since vanilla and Blizzard likes making huge sweeping class changes that do shit like double one spec's DPS while rendering three others so broken they're effectively unplayable even if you do really good at pressing your 3 damage buttons. meaning raid comp is actually a pretty strong indicator for how well your group can clear content. meanwhile in FFXIV there are a million statics with non-meta comps karate chopping through content just fine because the game is balanced with such autistic Japanese precision that, on the aggregate, skill matters far more than class choice

Hololive apparently got permission to stream XIV as part of the pre-EW hype push. RIP server-kun.

This is not necessarily correct. XIV's damage calculations are just as retarded and nonintuitive with things like stat tiering (aka why the DNC's current BiS actually runs counter to the conventional stat priority) and the difference between physical and magical damage. And the rotations are not always self-explanatory either, particularly when it comes to cooldown priorities during openers. Plus the tooltips all fucking suck and some are even outright misleading ('healing magic', positional requirements being silently added to SAM skills during leveling, pre-5.0 scholar, etc).

XIV doesn't need full Icy-Veins autism to be playable but that doesn't mean that most players can figure out things just from tooltips.

Icy Veins has a page for each class called "Easy Mode" that tells you 90% of what you need to know starting out.

XIV guides tend to overcomplicate things and don't have a standard.

Fucking facts.

I've seen so many 'beginner's guides to jobs that were so fucking complex.
Perhaps it's because I'm not doing the hard core raid shit that requires the best gear, the most autistically perfect rotations that use server ticks or whatever but learning new jobs is really not that hard for me. Granted I've only got 80 in 3 jobs with a 4th and 5th on the way but they aren't that hard to learn. I prefer developing rotations on my own or optimizing certain shit on my own because I think that's a lot more fun and interesting. I remember everyone bitching how much a pain Monk is but it isn't that bad, a little janky sure and bull shit when an enemy snaps back and forth for why the fuck not ruining position damage but not hard to figure out nor too frustrating.

Part of the issue is that there isn't really much you can do to change things up. So if you're practicing a rotation, you want to be practicing the most complex one (within reason).

I was able to get down the basic summoner rotation without looking anything up, only to find that the guide suggested almost immediately using dreadwyrm trance and using egi attacks during the trance to essentially fill up space in the opener - with only 3 GCDs at any point pumped into the trance before using flare and Bahamut that much earlier. This keeps Bahamut and Phoenix from drifting too far from each other because their cooldowns don't sync if you sit in the trance for its full duration. Once you get out of that opener, the class becomes much closer to whack-a-mole, but practicing the more complicated opener will make you good enough at the bread and butter anyways.

Dragoon is incredibly straightforward and the rotation is easy to figure out from just reading the tooltips - but tricks like delaying your red phase to better align with cooldowns aren't immediately apparent, nor is saving your big big jump in said red phase until towards the end to align with those buffs. Nor is that the jumps all should not be woven with other ogcd abilities, though you can pick that up easily enough as you play.

The issue with how the Balance and other raidtrannies present this information is that it fails to explain what the points of optimization are an upgrade from for a lot of people, with this implicit assumption that the reader already understands the class's basics. When you get down to it, learning the proper opener is incredibly important to the overall flow of the rotation - but there's plenty of people out there who can't even seem to hit 1-2-3 combos reliably enough. If Icy Veins exploits the lack of anyone preaching to newcomers who aren't completely retarded, it's going to get a good chunk of traffic.

One of the worst sins of the balance is that for alot of their main class info they just use strings of discord messages instead of formatting everything within a Gdrive (prolly cheaper and hassle free than a full website) so you have to handle discord's aids, join it, then read the formating using an endless scroll with little ways to more or less get info on multiple tabs

The guides themselves tho, the astro guide on the website was decent though, the DRK one on both discord and website is jank as fuck with wierd openers, GNB's openers are also fairly janky and unintuative

PLD and RDM in comparison, simpler jobs, so the guides were pretty much useless

I'm more in the line that if I don't die and do decent damage, then I'm not an absolute shitter. I never looked up guides on rotations cause it all seemed super autistic. I just sort of learned to do my own rotations based on what works for me and how the job plays. Maybe not super autistic level optimized but it's more than enough for casual content. Most of the difference in damage is only by tiny amounts anyway which really only matters in the higher raiding scene which I'm not a part of.

Basically I just use my intuition and experience of playing for 9 years to sort of make things work for me.

I like how I went to a page once I got whm to 80 and there's this long and autistic essay about what a GCD is.

I feel validated by all the balance hate in this thread, fuck that place.
