If you dont know much about the guy, or just want to watch a great movie about him, i would highly recommend his biopic by Paul Schrader, Mishima a Life in Four Chapters. Like all biopics it might not be the most accurate but it tell his story in an interesting way by doing small adaptations of his books to paint a picture about him. It took the side that "yo this nigga gay" and because of it was banned in japan until just last year, despite it being made in Japanese with an entirely Japanese cast. It's as the kids would say kino. It's got some of the best sets in film an incredible Philip glass score, and it even has the janus film logo at the start.

Why had I looked so frank as I lied to the army doctor? Why had I said that I'd been having a slight fever for over half a year, that my shoulder was painfully stiff, that I spit blood, that even last night I had been soaked by a night sweat?...Why when sentenced to return home the same day had I felt the pressure of a smile come pushing so persistently at my lips that I had difficulty in concealing it? Why had I run so when I was through the barracks gate? Hadn't my hopes been blasted? What was the matter that I hadn't hung my head and trudged away with heavy feet? I realized vividly that my future life would never attain heights of glory sufficient to justify my having escaped death in the army...
Genuinely thank you for being so informational.

If you could give me the source for that, that would be great. I’d genuinely would like to look further into that.

all that said i don't think mishima was a pedo, lots of japanese lit is about forbidden love that typically goes fucking horribly for nearly everyone involved, lots of it gay, too, and romance of "age gap"/illegal shit continues to this day in lit with stuff like "Half His Age" by Jennete McCurdy, so if the industry makes it an acceptable/selling topic, then writers will go there, and him being fucked in the head post war would likely contribute to his work being more kind of fucked regardless of ethics, but clearly in japan it was commercially viable and acceptable. hopefully his wife was aware of her "beard"ness, or whatever the fuck went on that nobody knows of, but that's just hearsay and comparing it to modern shit. she may have even been allowed to go with whoever she wants on the dl, who knows. his coup and political shit and suicide was all retarded but his early meeting and acknowledgement with the emperor made kind of "well no fucking shit he got political when pre assassination jfk essentially said "i believe in you nigga""

The more I look into this dude, he really just comes off as overcompensating for everything. Obviously, his ideology, body, homosexuality, and integrity. In the sense that a lot his work is very indicative of his experience. As you pointed out with his experience avoiding drafting that does actually become a character experience in Confessions of a Mask (which is quickly becoming more biographical in a sense.

Edit: a majority of my po had literally been deleted. This is fucking bullshit, I’ll rewrite it later

Mishima went to gay bars when he was married and considered well known gay drag queen Akihiro Miwa/Maruyama (who he met at a gay bar where Akihiro worked) to be ”the beauty of celestial heaven"

"Went" to gay bars is an understatement. This man fucking lived at them. I read 30 pages of Forbidden Love, where this man has created a gay bar with its own politics, with inner and outer workings. Then gave us a crash course on Japanese gay culture with such precision that I'm shocked some of his nationalist fags don't clock him just by the vibe off of his photo.

This man is gay culture, and I'm not even being a dick about it.

says it was from his semi autobiography confessions of a mask in 1949, which additionally has the main character, supposedly representative of himself, a young gay man who hides behind a mask to fit in society

tbh reading more into him, it's just kind of weird

supposedly while working on that novel, it's just mentioned he "visited" gay bars, but since writing a book takes time, and developing the inner workings like you say requires a level of effort, likely he was pretty frequent for an extended period of time, and with his prior shit, it seems pretty sus

however, there's enigmatic shit, like with his wife, supposedly they had 2 kids, and even past his death she always denied any homosexual accusations, but that's kind of a locked door where the public wouldn't ever really know if she was some form of beard or if he was some form of a emotionally abusive homo man ho, or a combination of the two

he has enough publicity security that you could basically say he was a man with gay thoughts, a straight man that identified with gay people, or some combo of mental trauma that made him wonky. he also supposedly had an encounter with osamu dazai, that made an impression on him, who covered lots of suicidal shit and later killed himself in a suicide pact thing, so that alongside his survivors guilt from skipping the draft and into his coup thing, he was mentally off. or he could have just been the occam's razor of a homo with other mental issues.

edit: cross checking dazai's wiki, the mishima wiki didn't portray the emotions properly, mishima did not like the fucker

"The disgust in which I hold Dazai's literature is in some way ferocious. First, I dislike his face. Second, I dislike his rustic preference for urban sophistication. Third, I dislike the fact that he played roles that were not appropriate for him." -mishima of dazai

honestly though, writers in that sphere being fucked/fucking over those around them *was* par for the course, again with dazai, i like his edge philosophy shit, but irl he began drinking heavily, left his wife and daughter for a beautician, then killed himself with her in a rain gutter. in his "autobiographyTM" book no longer human his wife is, supposedly, raped, and his self insert watches and does nothing, but it's basically philosophy/surreal shit and could also be metaphor about a prior wife cheating on him, maybe meaning he felt like there was nothing he could do to avoid the trauma of that or some shit.

then he did the same thing to his wife irl by cheating on her or leaving on a dime, gave his daughter lifelong trauma like he supposedly had, and killed himself in the gutter, so

I started with Confessions of a Mask, but, with how obscene it was, I just thought it was Japanese men being fucking weird again. Like, a bunch of half-truths and just weird fetish shit that they usually pack their media with. I really like it when the stand-in character is being written like an actual person. That military exam scene was the best moment, because you could really grasp what he was going through in that moment and after it. Yet I'm walking away, really thinking most of this dude's novels are borderline his literal retroactive diaries. The shoehorned-in ending
of mc open-endedly confessing that he and that girl didn't work out because he was gay
was a little too out of place not be complete bullshit.

Going off of Confessions, his blatantly gay work, and most of the information gathered here, his philosophy and nationalism are literally just one big coup for being a womanizing gay man and a draft dodger. Yet, fucking Christ, the man is just so constantly lonely and sad. He can't be happy with a woman or man because he's constantly trying to be genuine with himself, but knowing he can't even be honest with other people. He's stuck in literal limbo because he's functionally mistreating his wife and running a con, but he can't bring himself to be honest and open about his sexuality and be actually attached to the men he's with.

I'm not fully surprised by all of this, but I didn't expect to be vindicated due to contextual evidence. Because, with the gay shit in Forbidden Colors, he's literally outlining how these men hook up and the dynamics of their brief and extensive relationships. He has put an asinine amount of effort into expressing how intense but fleeting closeted gay's hook ups are. While it's fucking him up so mentally that only a person who has the emotional nuance of this can write it. And it's written way too fucking well.

I came here to bully the typical closeted Nationalist faggot, and I'm hitting that level of just this man is just somehow a special kind of depressing for a Japanese man. It's just straight fucking sad. He's still a fucking egotistical, self-bemoaning asshole like Daiza when he goes on a philosophy dump. But somehow I'm getting why he tried that coup and killed himself.

This is how all leftists cope about the unmistakable beauty divined by Mishima.
"Oh he was gay look at this he worked out and made /fit/ jokes, it's just sad you want to improve yourself you're so self indulgent look at you if you try to do anything ever you'll get killed and die like he did"
You're going to have to cope and seethe forever that his death was beautiful and his life was like velvet and he was ultimately right about everything and the pain he felt in his failed decapitation was an experience that eclipses anything you'll ever feel and you could write all the short stories about being called sir and make all the tranny indie games you want but it'll always be boring hack slop and it'll never approach the beauty Mishima took for himself that day.

First off, cut the political bullshit. I might be an actual gay faggot, but I wouldn’t be on this website if I was whatever that weird delusion you think I am.

Secondly, I figured you were just a random japanaphile faggot. But somehow you’re gayer than the man himself. Where did you come to this conclusion from what I said? Motherfucker I hoped you stretched before that leap in logic, because I’m going to make you work harder than your left hand.

The man was clearly a deeply depressed individual, and nothing was beautiful about his suicide. You die that way to punish yourself or apologize for a major transgression. The man died in agony, and he did it blatantly because he saw no way out of his own life. It’s very clear he didn’t kill himself just because he failed a coup.

This is not cute. This is horrifically upsetting and I fucking hate the man for his stale philosophy on life. And his shitty opinion on women because he couldn’t cope with his culturally forced heterosexuality. This isn’t some gay higurashi fanfic you obsessed over in middle school. This is an actual man that was blatantly gay, and its reflected in his works that he suffered for it.

Are you sure you aren’t gay for the man yourself? Because your cognitive dissonance is off the charts. You’re fucking writing poetry for a dead man like he’d date you in a heartbeat.

You just keep repeating this. Show me evidence beyond you not understanding the sun and the body and the material.

The man was clearly a deeply depressed individual
"Clearly" uh evidence? You keep saying this stuff because you heard it from a youtube video or something. Why do you personally think he was 'deeply depressed'?

I feel like a lot of your intentions are transparent here. Maybe I'm wrong but this part seems emotional.

If you're a man do you read Rimbaud? If you're a woman do you read Highsmith? Would either make you gay? Ridiculous assertion. It lessens your argument to make this claim.

This isn’t some gay higurashi fanfic you obsessed over in middle school
Have you read Higurashi? Do you like? I like it.

You didn’t read anything in this thread. I genuinely cannot disengage from this, because you are blatantly diagnosed autistic. I want to have a genuine conversation with you.

Please, I actually want you to prove me and everyone wrong. This isn’t one of your political thread. Do it. Show me genuine evidence and argue your point. No gay little comments or half baked responses.

That's what I'm asking from you. I'm a genuine person who enjoyed Mishima's writings. You're claiming he's gay and depressed and all of this wild dramatic stuff.
I've read the thread, there's no proof he's gay if thats what you're having trouble with.

Scott-Stokes, Henry (1974). The Life and Death of Yukio Mishima. New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux. NCID BA10429419.

This book includes all his published love letters between him and a man.

This is more or less an overview and an examination of his personal life. Which once again includes his romantic and sexual relationship with other men. Including the depression he was

due to being closeted and his own perceived physical and social weakness.

The stories you can read of his are:

Cigarette

Confession of a Mask - he outright said this was semi-biographical

Forbidden Love

All these stories have literal homosexual relationships as the main focus. All of them also focus on the emptiness of life due to their inability to reconcile with the main character’s sexuality and the demands of society. All of which include in depth conversations and commentary on the physical beauty and attractiveness of men. The men aren’t just passive players, but characters actively shown as objects of physical and sexual desires by the main characters.

Forbidden Love is so in-depth that it literally covers the gay culture and its social workings of the times. As well as the closeted MC falling deeper into depression due to his double life as a husband and father and a gay man away from the household. You can’t exactly pull that level in depth out your ass if you just visited a few gay bars.

Your turn.

He wrote about that in the fashionable sixties? He was clearly interested in sexuality. How do you explain the parts in Sailor where he's fucking women? You think a gay man wrote that? You're goofy
He was straight. Explain his art from that position.

Edit: Like think about this. He's gay, ta-dah, the solution to all his literature.
That's the most low IQ reading of his work. Oh that long thing means a penis. Low tier.

Don’t double post if you can help it. It’s rude and it shits up the thread. You could’ve just added the video to your already edited posted.

Also It’s a little hard to disregard testimony from himself, his wife, kids, friends, and lovers. But whatever I guess.

Either way, it’s cool if you can’t prove your stance. If you have nothing to say in your defense, you don't have to fall back on mockery. This isn’t Reddit or the pol thread, no one’s going to shit on you if you don't have anything of substance to say.

In all seriousness, I think you need to actually lay off on the pol threads. Your ability to defend yourself/debate and comprehend what your reading has clearly diminished.

Yeah, I’m over his writing shit. He’s genuinely an awful person and writer. I’m officially mad at the internet.

Half cross posting from a different thread: So still reading Yukio Mishima’s Forbidden Colors. Essentially closeted gay man is being used as womanizer for an old man to get back at the women he was romantically interested in the past. Just some gay half baked revenge story.

I just literally read a women get raped or tricked into it for plot reason. Essentially they got her drunk and lured her into thinking she was going to sleep with closeted dude then switched places. So I’m essentially expected to think that she got what she deserved, because she laughed at a 60 something year old writer trying to get into her pants years ago.

I already hate gay men as is, but losers will just take any old woman hating faggot and put them on a pedestal. Mishima is just some bitter bitch that couldn’t get of the closet so he took it out on women. He call them every name under the sun including prostitutes, but he’s literally writing every gay man as whoring themselves out. The fucking audacity to call him in any way a good writer is outright delusional.

He might be capable of pumping out something decent. But the moment his philosophy and opinions walk in just throw the whole fucking out. I just read 246 pages (not even done) just for this fucker to start throwing whatever at the wall.

I’m genuinely glad gay men are trooning out at this point and actively neutering themselves. I no longer have any capacity to feel sympathy for any gay faggot over the age of twenty. Every closeted man deserves to be miserable at this point. I’m not saying this because I hate men, but because gay have personally went out of their way to fuck with me.

I think The Sound of Waves is a very good novel. It's so earnest that it feels completely out of step with the modern day when you read it now, but in a good way. It's not political at all. It's not gay either. I haven't read anything else by him, so that's all I got for ya. I already knew he was gay and all that biographical shit due to frequenting /lit/ for many years but that's why it was such a surprise reading this book and finding basically none of the memes about him to be present within it. The novel has a very healthy view of women and its coming-of-age relationship issues are purely heterosexual.

I don't even like Mishima but this thread is a million times faggier than he ever was.

jk rowling modern hp hate is retarded though
Harry Potter was always dogshit for half-illiterate kids. I'm tired of pretending her books are any good just because she has the normal opinion about trannies
