Remember how they were talking literally earlier this month about how freedom of speech didn't mean anyone had to give you a platform and how it was up to colleges and companies whether they wanted to no-platform views they disagreed woth?

SJW's have not yet realized that it's easier just to wear shoes instead of trying to carpet the whole world. This is a prime example.

Seriously, if you want to watch LGBT-themed videos, just turn off your filter. Simple as that.

But now little 6 year old kids won't get to hear about sexual preferences years before their hormones actually kick in and they actually care about it! YOUTUBE ARE NAZIS!

As others have mentioned, it isn't even remotely close to a LGBT targeted ban. It gets rid of tons of content that you wouldn't expect. I have absolutely no idea what the algorithm is, since it didn't effect some videos that have swears in them, which you think a child friendly censor would hit right away. It's also incredibly easy to disable. There's a button at the bottom of the page that says restricted. All you have to do is click it. I think there's a way to set a password on it, but kids can also just log out of the account, or start their own YouTube account. I was under the impression that it was meant for incredibly young children, like kids that are under 7, and school accounts. YouTube even said that barely anyone uses it. I was under the impression that it has been around for awhile too, and people are only now just noticing it.

I think the reason that so many YouTubers got up in arms about it is because YouTube has an awful naming convention. Being on the restricted list is not the same as having an age restricted video. As I understand it, age restricted videos are bad because YouTubers can't monetize them. I've listened to a few videos, which to their credit do distinguish between the two, but it gave me the impression they only looked into this in the first place because they thought it meant they couldn't make money off of their videos. Once they realized they still could, they said fuck it and made clickbait drama videos complete with a hashtag movement.

If you want to watch lgbt (or a shitload of conservative) themed shit, the solution is actually even simpler - don't turn on the filter. It's opt in, not even people who aren't signed in get the restrictions unless they actively desire them. This entire thing is retarded.

People can whine all they want, nobody cares. But now large corporations and even the British government have pulled their ads from Youtube because Google can't ensure they won't appear next to inappropriate content. Google promised to keep trying harder and got told that that simply isn't good enough anymore and they don't seem to get how large the perceived problem is for advertisers.

I expect more heads to roll, not less.

Good news for Patreon I guess.

Restricted Mode has been there for years. It's intended for the strictest of parents. Every single keyword, including "sex"/"sexuality" or specific sexualities is blocked. 95% of users didn't use or had no idea Restricted Mode existed until everyone started freaking out about it.

I'm assuming they're doing this because youtube is now starting to replace TV when it comes to what parents blindly leave their kids with. H3H3 has done some videos on the weird and disturbing cash grab concerning content for kids.

im surprised a certain cow hasn't crawled out of her cave of delusions to reeee about this....

All in good time - OPL is usually late to the punch on "things that matter" like this. OPL's real concern should be getting something a little more useful, such as a VPN, however...

I love the inherent arrogance of taking for granted that they're infuential enough to end youtube. They'll probably get it elected president trying.
