Youtube protects videos via browser DRM (No idea if it affects everybody)

Is this one of those lovely (we test it on random people) features and I'm the only one getting it or did it go global? I haven't seen any news reporting on it, but when I try to watch a normalass video on youtube firefox tells me the page has DRM protected content and puts a link to this webpage. Funniest part, last hour or so it wasn't there and I was watching like 4 different videos.

Whilst researching it, I also found this random ass reddit discussion commenting on if youtube would add DRM to videos.
It was posted a year ago.

Also not a huge problem on my part I'll just use invidious to watch it (if youtube doesn't break it too), but this might become a bigger problem later esp since youtube had tried to crack down on adblockers earlier this year, so might aswell report on it.

Video works perfectly fine on FreeTube (which uses Individuous)
God damn, if they keep treating ordinary visitors and customers worse than pirates... I mean, arguably, that has been the case for decades now, only recently it's getting so blatant

YouTube is still playing on Brave Browser (which blocks ads) for me, but as you said sometimes they test these things out on a small percentage of users at a time.

I did have an issue a few months ago where it was giving me weird warnings for not watching ads but closing the browser and re-opening it seemed to fix it.

When you use their browser, they get to collect your data across the entirety of your browsing, not just what you do on their sites, which they can then sell to advertisers. Even ten years ago, back when I used Chrome, I could browse Wikipedia and then my ads on Google-owned sites would've been suspiciously closely related to whatever the fuck I was reading about.

What about Brave?
They don't seem to care about that one and I imagine if someone switches from Firefox it's most likely to Brave.

It seems like they have either some backdoor into all chromium browsers or have something planned for the future.

That's what Manifest v3 is supposed to be, yes. That said, though, I'll install a fucking Android virtual machine and load Newpipe, GrayJay, or ReVanced through that to watch YouTube videos before I ever download a Chromium-based browser again.
