Hmm.. are there a lot of forumers who grew up in the 80s and remember it well?
I was born at the tail end of it so I really don't remember it too well.
I like some of the music ( Tina Turner, Rush, Def Leppard)
I like the films of the era ( Beverly Hills Cop, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Back to the Future).
I also deeply admire the main prez of the era, Ronald Reagen. He was a true all American leader, unlike the wobbly wet dishrag of a president we have now!
I don't have as much of a first hand account of this era, since my parents/ aunts and uncles were all getting married and starting families during this time, instead of paying attention to pop culture.
Not to be a Debbie downer, but as cool and fun as a lot of the music and pop culture of the era was, I think it may have been a worse time to live than now. Why?

1. When you got AIDS back then, there was no medicine that would help you live a normal life. If you got HIV/AIDs, you were lucky if you lived for more than a few months.
2. The Cold War was still going on. Even though old Mikhail "birth spot" Gorbachev, seemed like a nice guy, he still was our enemy (technically) and most people believed the Soviet bloc would exist for years to come. Lots of looney Green peace activists kept talking about Nuclear war, and the folly of the American missile build up. Fools.
3. Womens rights have come a long way since then. I hear there used to be a nationwide debate over whether mothers with careers were OK or if they were the bane of the American family.
4.It also seems there were far more high profile child abductions/ serial killers than there are now. Big cities like NYC and LA had a far higher crime rate, with more racist police than there are now.
Can any 80s children enlighten me?

I was a total 90's kid, so I remember basically nothing about the 80's but I have to agree with @CatParty about the music; espcially Bon Jovi.

I like my metal and hard rock, so the music of the 80s is something I admire.

Fucking St Elsewhere man, not really too 80s-unintentional period, but nonetheless takes place all during the 80s.

Great cast, which is full of faces you actually may recognize. And that theme song is just brilliant.

Cynthia Sikes :heart-full:

Nightmare on Elm Street movies
Halloween 3
Robocop 1
Michael Jackson

More I say I have to say! *yawn*

Probably a little more well known than its sister show, the aforementioned St Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues too, has a memorable opening theme. I imported both shows on DVD and I just liked St Elsewhere better. Hill Street Blues has some great writing, and the last scene of the first episode is incredible, but I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes of the second episode. There's always forever, I guess.

Of course, everyone knows Growing Pains. The sitcom returned to the mainstream popularity in the late 90s because of the Titanic, and because Leonardo DiCaprio had a role in the final season, so the execs wanted more :tugboat: to cash in. Another memorable song, and singing it really brings up your spirits. To be honest though, I'm not a big fan of the Seavers. I love the Keatons and the Lambert/Fosters way more.

I just went through the entire thread to make sure I didn't already post it, so here it is, the 80s most Greatest Achievement.

Its just too bad todays generation wouldn't truly appreciate something like this. They would never do this in the recording industry of today.

Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, and Kim Carnes are so beautiful in this.

I'm just so glad I get to carry it with me everywhere on my iPod. On the ferry, to work, out to the bar, everywhere. No one takes this shit from me!

The 80s were the decade where good taste in fashion decided to take a break: and I loved it!

Testosterone-on-steroids action movies and buddy cop movies.

Ever seen Revenge of the Nerds? A movie like this could only be made in the 80s.

After Scarface, but before Batman Returns and even Married to the Mob, Michelle Pfieffer starred in this medieval fantasy, but still very 80s movie named LadyHawke alongside Matthew Broderick and Rutger Hauer.

And the main theme of the music, which plays many times during the fight scenes, is just the most amazing thing ever.
