You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

I hate cooking websites. They are the most obnoxiously spam-laden sites you will ever find, almost to the point of parody. These screenshots were taken on a PC but they're even worse on a phone, where you have to scroll to reveal the recipe one line at a time like you're peaking through a keyhole.

Look at this shit:

On top of needing to scroll through 10 pages of ads to read a 100-word recipe, a lot of writers pad the article with several paragraphs of saccharine anecdotes from their life story:

I was stupid enough to use my iPad to look up a recipe once while cooking. I found one I liked and then my iPad kept crashing because of all the ads getting loaded into it. It was beyond ridiculous

At least when the printer-friendly link is easy to find that all goes away but yeah, I've noticed it too

israel and palestine being EVERYWHERE on the fucking news. For a while I've been improving my mornings by watching Alpenpanorama on 3sat, and it's always interrupted by two news segments, 7 and 3 minutes long, at 800 and 830. For the past month however it has been NOTHING but israel, gaza, palestine and netanyahu. I'm now convinced that kikestan is what would happen if you took histrionic personality disorder and applied it to an entire fucking nation of people.
Not to sound like an imperial backing, Lord Cutler Beckett-Enoch Powell-Winston Churchill twit or anything, but the Mandate should have stayed in place.

Because boomer executives are utterly terrified of the hacker known as 4chins every single fucking process, website, and application has to have 3-5 levels of MFA and half the time the MFA doesn't work because it's coded by Jeets and for "security reasons" our IT team doesn't have the ability to unlock or reset it so you have to call the Jeets to reset it and sit there at they struggle to do so for some reason even though it's their own fucking software that they fucking designed.

I'm getting angry all over again just writing that.
im the guy that has to reset mfa and it's a pain in the fucking ass, our security team is nothing but masochists that setup gay fucking rules to stop normal people from trying to do their fucking jobs. they saw the mgm hack last year and got super schizo paranoid about everything and added a bunch of new rules.
one guy's kept getting blocked, security team said it's because he's signing in from a geofenced location. no nigger he's in wisconsin check your fucking rules.

I tab back over to kill the in video ad and what do I see? Some jerk put an image of a woman sucking dick into ai to made it look like woodwork and put that as an ad. This shit makes me hate YouTube so much.
At least the video didn't say a bad word, otherwise, YouTube would've demonetized it or hid it from the algorithm.

I hate these election texts that are framed as if somebody is trying to have a conversation with you. Like, hey, I'm your neighbor, bitch, you are a machine that had my number from the voting booth.

I'm beyond sick of seeing people riding their e-bikes dangerously in between cars in the street. For some reason it's mostly teens. (I mean, I know why. Teenagers think they're invincible)

At this point I think all e-bike riders should be forced to take driving classes before being allowed to drive one.

One day this will lead to a serious accident, although at this rate I guarantee there have been some deaths.
its already happening
a 17 year old kid was killed on one just 3 weeks ago

but yeah, i think what will end up happening is that they will end up being regulated like mopeds. I know some cities here in Canada have banned them from the road for this very reason

God, that's horrible. I can't imagine how awful the driver of the car would feel for being part of that child's death. Unfortunately it'll keep happening. If I had a child who wanted an e-bike, I'd honestly be nervous about buying one for them. It's been proven enough that a lot of the teenagers don't know how to drive responsibly.

There was a story ages ago where a 12 year old child died from falling off an e-bike. It's just sad.

I tried to find the original story. This is it:

The sad thing? When I tried to look up deaths from children around that age all from e-bike crashes, it took me to multiple children.

I watched that news segment you linked. This is the top comment.

Screenshot 2025-10-16 at 20-46-36 Number of deaths and injuries involving e-bikes grows rapidl...png

Yeah, those numbers are going to keep going up.

Couple of days ago I got one of these while I was having a very complicated day that hinged on me waiting for an important text back from someone. So this thing like you describe pops up and I just told it "fuck off" and it responded immediately telling me I replied STOP and that it will remove me from their list lol.

I have a sorta-similar problem where, despite me following procedure, something I was not informed of or trained on goes wrong, and I catch shit for it.

I also have an issue where co-workers, in an ostensible attempt to get me to "think critically", will put me on the spot with trick questions I don't know the answer to. It's not helping me learn or figure things out. It's just me being lectured for not having psychic powers.
I'm guessing you are young or inexperienced.

If you are then they are probably trying to teach you to always check your assumptions or question everything and everyone. It's not being psychic its stepping out of the box and taking responsibility. Maybe get you more result oriented than procedure oriented...

People who act like they have some kind of moral superiority because they get their news from the Daily Show, Colbert, Kimmel, etc. when they've done more damage to political discourse than Trump ever could imagine. Just look at all of the journos that have imitated their brand of self-indulgent smarminess.

It's actually funny hearing people brag about getting their news from Comedy Central and their comedy from Fox News without realizing they've implied that their mouthpieces are unfunny hacks.

I was out at the craft store because I needed some thread for some sewing.

I didn't know where the thread was exactly so I was wandering various aisles, and found the one with patches. One section had some single letters.

And so, someone ever so kindly on the top row of the section hung a few letters from their designated places to spell out "FUCK TRUMP".

It's bad enough that it's a craft store and nobody gives a shit, but this is why everyone should work retail at some point in their lives (I did). You're not doing anything useful in your pitiful "resistance". You're just making life harder for the retail workers that have to clean up at the end of the night. You're giving the people who work there another menial task as if they don't have enough shit to put back to please some district manager who doesn't give a shit if you hate Trump, they just want their store to look nice.

So, I put back the letters. Because fuck the assholes who make it harder for retail workers when they engage in creative replacement of merchandise because they think it's somehow doing the world a service.

Speaking of...I am just ground down by this shit. People in my community or at work I can just brush away as being idiots but I have a few in my family, and they are otherwise lovable and good people.

Had a great long chat with my cousin. I've been avoiding politics with him for the last decade because we no longer see eye to eye, but he clearly has no idea just how conservative I am. So he brings up the No Kings thing and I basically had to tell him that I don't think it's going to accomplish a damn thing which he interprets as me needing a confidence boost to getting involved.
At some point he claimed that Trump was going to round up and murder all the homeless people and I could just tell his blood pressure was through the roof and he really believes we're under attack by a fascist president.
I'm just so tired of everyone having brain worms and being hysterical.

When sellers of food storage containers do that shit of listing something has "20 pieces" and it's 10 lids and 10 containers because it lets them artificially inflate the item count.
This is it. This is my sign that we're just better off burning it all down and starting from scratch.

I'm just so tired of everyone having brain worms and being hysterical.
If Trump's first term doesn't convince you that the apocalypse isn't going to happen (seriously, a fascist dictator was just waiting for his second term to unleash his merciless reign over the country, no, really, believe me this time), I have no fucking idea what to tell you.

How people can, after Trump being voted out and they were all calm for four whole years, not realize that maybe the media had them more gassed up about Trump than Trump actually has astounds me.

"Comedy" sections where the "joke" is that something drags on way too long. It's not a horseshoe, it doesn't come back around to being funny, it just gets worse the more it drags on.

That's what killed Bridesmaids for me. The whole cringey scene where they kept trying to one up their speeches to the bride. It was supposed to be cringe funny, but the whole thing was dragged out and went on for way too long.

Getting my groceries at the supermarket is becoming something i have to mentally prepare myself for. It's full of those not-quite-illegal but incredibly trashy behaviors you can expect. Used to be shit like people that never return their shop carts, slobs that fucking eat whatever they're buying inside the store and just drop the empty bags to the cashier so they can scan them... Fucking awful, but somehow i got used to it for a while.

But now, you've got zoomers with their fucking airpods meandering in the middle of the damn aisle, and unlike with boomers, you can't nudge or clear your throat to get them to move, cause their brains are so fried they absolutely need to be connected to their phones even when grocery hauling.

If there's one thing i could say i miss about the covid years, it'd be that "one or two people per family only" policy. You don't need to bring your whole fat fucking family in with you.
Nothing grates at me more than when people leave their cart in the middle of the aisle, and never return to it or their entire body and cart blocks the aisle, and they won't move.

Thread tax: Cutesy voices in anything, songs, media, etc. Something about it just grates at me and makes me MATI. Since we are still on music, there's many more things that grind my gears about it. When the music video has the better version of the song but that version is nowhere available but from that one music video uploaded in 2007. Companies that still take down music videos, streaming, anything about their artists, but they make it impossible to buy the album or single. Especially if they have some stupid thing where they won't sell or deliver outside of the country the song is from. Really nigga.
