You ever watch something that you suspect is total AI propaganda?

I've been watching World War II shit on Netflix recently, and tonight the search engine gods steered me to "World War II: From the Frontlines."

Now I have been down der Führerbunker of original WWII footage and one thing that I have noticed is that original footage from Japan, Germany, and the Soviet Union has been a lot grainier than the footage from the US and Great Britain. (There are propaganda reasons for this; don't @me on this, my resurrection cake day.)

This show says up front that the footage has been enhanced and colorized, but I suspect something much more sinister.

I genuinely cannot tell what part of this--from each individual frame of alleged battle footage to the in-person dialogue from apparently first-hand survivors--has not been tampered with by AI.

For example, this show portrayed alleged columns of Indian soldiers with bright red caps marching off while barefoot. Did any of this actually happen?

As another example, the "Vietnamese" soldiers look African.

Am I one toke over the line, or has Netflix been infiltrated by dark forces?

I can't provide any proof but it's entirely possible that someone used ai to colorize it as you mentioned and the output they got had the incorrect detail with Barefeet.

American Somoa had the Barefoot Marines, and they had red on their uniform so we can assume AI is still just adlibs with less rules.

It's a disturbing implication that with AI, they really can slip some lies and deceit into otherwise totally factual documentaries with the same old footage you've seen over and over again, and if you don't have eagle eyes you'll never know it. And then they could keep doing it every so often until everyone in WW2 beside the Nazis were stronk wahmen of color.

It sounds like a British Indian Army uniform so maybe it did.

As another example, the "Vietnamese" soldiers look African.

They were covered in dirt and spent all day in the sun so in the right lighting they might look black. France also sent Arab and African colonial soldiers to Vietnam on several occasions.

If you get deep into YT Shorts or really any "endless scrolling" format like that after clearing your cookies, a lot of the content you get does smell of being made by AI or ESL third world slaves. There's a whole underbelly of tens of thousands of these kinds of videos—seemingly tailored towards children or younger teenagers—often thousands of uploads from a single channel, and a minority of these uploads get absurd views. The obvious answer as to why they're pumping these out is money, but it's not always the basic key-jangling you'd expect or really need if you're just looking to hold a kid's attention; a lot of it does seem to subtly and unnecessarily promote unhealthy behaviors and scams. Not quite ElsaGate, but a lot of stuff in that vain.

Not sure if I'd call it propaganda but it does seem to have a higher purpose than simply farming watch time.

AI is lowering the barrier of entry to making convincing fakes. Our current society and internet aren't set up to handle this.

I should have come up with examples other than two uses of colonial troops.

Here's the trailer, and it kind of shows what I mean. Some scenes look grainy and "authentic," while other scenes seem "too" clean, but if the scenes that look "too" clean are suspect, why not also manipulate the grainy scenes?

Note that in the comments, many people are like "The footage is SO GOOD."

According to Ken Burns, getting German footage for his WW2 documentary was hard and expensive so I appreciate that the documentary team behind this Netflix series got a lot of it."
