Rare's big cancellation is Everwild, a game for which multiple trailers were shown, but which apparently had no gameplay loop figured out as recently as late last year.

That's pretty (Ever)wild for a game that spent 6 years in the oven. You'd think one of the 14 layers of management would have stuck their head in the Rare office door at some point to ask what the fuck they were doing with all that money.

That was the whole institutional problem under Phil Spencer. He basically just rubber-stamped budgets for studios and let deliverables slip. Look at the mess their UK studios were when he was in charge of MS Studios UK and Europe, and how things fell off in their North American studios when he was put in charge there.

He only ended up as Xbox CEO because the job was seen as a career-killer in the company ever since Blackley got the axe.

It is hilarious that a guy who couldn't keep software flowing at the world's biggest software company somehow sold the CEO on basing the future of the division on a subscription model for games when he had such an abysmal record for actually getting games out the door when that was his job!
