Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

The QA guy didn't answer to me, we just worked together on the "found bug, fixed it, checked it, yup it's fixed, nice" loop. So that's QA tester, QA manager, developers (junior and senior), team lead and then department head, and though it amounted to six "ranks" on the org chart if you viewed it that way, it ran a lot smoother than it sounds.
So then it's not the 14 layers of management that the xbox CEO was talking about or even arranged in the chain you wrote up. That would be why I said your example makes no sense. The junior dev and dev wouldn't even be "layers of management"

New Vegas wasn't so good that Obsidian shouldn't be out of business by now.
The main thing Obsidian was always known for was buggy, unfinished games, and New Vegas was their pinnacle in that as much as it was an example of their potential, but let’s face it, none of the three studios MS bought that day would have survived another year if they hadn’t sold out.

Activision, Bethesda/ZeniMax, Blizzard, King, Mojang, and XBOX Game Studios will face reductions and restructuring.
I just felt the tension in my lower back after a long day of manual labor fade away reading this.

CUT THEIR FUCKIN BALLS OFF. Eat shit for fucking every game I loved over for the better part of a decade or more.

Where is Obsidian? There's no way they've made any money with the last two duds.
The only thing they have over Bethesda right now is they actually put out games.

I'm disappointed Obsidian didn't fully get axed but not surprised. Grounded apparently did really well and was modestly budgeted; I'm guessing Grounded 2 is doing decently, too.

Still, Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 have shown how truly incompetent they are now. Microsoft basically gave them blank cheques and as much time as they needed, and yet both games still feel like they were hobbled together in less than two years each. There's interviews for Outer Worlds 2 where the developers are whining about how they had to cut stuff because they just didn't have the time and resources... but they had an estimated 100 million dollar budget and 6 years of development time.

Avowed 1 came out last year, right? Too far along my ass.
Hear me out.
They've already built the game's engine. Everything is there. They jsut need to make more shit to put in it.

So it will be the same bland thing, just in a bland new place. Its Genius. The cookie cutter mold is there it just needs the dough put into it. Too bad the dough is rancid indian shit and human hair

Ouch:

Xbox Layoffs Hit Id Software And ZeniMax As Focus Shifts To Bigger Franchises (archive pending the archive sites' retardation being healed) Edit: I give up, archive.is/ph are dogshit today.
The article dijo:
It's a bleak Monday for Xbox, as the division is losing five of its studios and approximately 20% of its workforce will be laid off throughout the current fiscal year. These changes, referred to as "the most significant restructure in Xbox history" by Xbox boss Asha Sharma, will impact every corner of the business, including Id Software and ZeniMax Online Studios. While the two developers aren't shutting down, reports claim that they will be losing large portions of their respective workforces.
Who's that Twitter personality everybody calls a "grifter" who noted all of iD Software's job listings were yeeted from their "now hiring" pages a few weeks ago? "Grummz" or something? Guess some people are gonna need to get those apology form memes ready.

That's the entire history of Obsidian right here.

It's good to know people are finally realizing that maybe they just fucking suck and don't know how to plan/develop a game properly.

My favorite Obsidian story is the one about Alpha Protocol.

When they heard SEGA had delayed Alpha Protocol’s launch by six months, they asked if they could do additional QA and fix some bugs they knew about. SEGA told them to fuck off, and they went public about it.

Turns out they had exceeded their QA budget to the point where patches for the console versions would not be possible before the game was finished and SEGA just didn’t want to give them any more money.

And yes, Obsidian claimed that almost put them out of business.

At least before they actually were occasionally rushed and were an independent RPG studio. Now they're given as much time as they want and are a subsidiary to one of the biggest corporations in the world.

It says a lot, and none of it good, when a company can’t do good work under pressure, but isn’t any better when they aren’t.

It wasn't my example. I was providing a description of a different arrangement that more likely fits what the other poster was trying to describe.
Ah, my bad. was replying on my phone earlier. But yeah, the management chain proposed by that guy still makes no sense, and the scenario you gave would be an example of a flatter structure that actually works.

All of these layoffs and “restructuring” are for naught if XBOX leadership isn’t getting inside the decision room of these studios and going “no girlbosses, no shoehorned minorities, no trannies” etc… which obviously they won’t do so they’re just delaying the inevitable.

Also if the rumors about activision taking control of Halo is true, then what the fuck is the point of of 343 aka “Halo Studios” if they are having Halo yanked out of their DEI tranny hands?

Isn't avowed just a top down static rpg in first person? All they gotta do is allow players to switch perspectives, increase the difficulty, better dungeons, and a better story. Add some actual generic rpg elements that were missing or make the world feel alive and they'll have a good game.

I remember enjoying avowed. It was just barebones. But the gameplay was decent. Better than their flagship title.

They championed it as a skyrim killer for a while, but it was so bland and empty even by skyrim standards.
It fell short of games that were 20 years old or single player modern dev projects even.
