Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

They've released 7 games in 8 years - even if it's all Gamepass slop - that's clearly what MS wanted.

There are studios that have released 0 games in 8 years and they clearly need to go first.
Agree, Ms will simply cut all the funds for their big AAA project and tell to focus on Grounded(who sold well) and maybe a pentiment-tier passion project so Sawyer doesn't leave.

That's... honestly not a very encouraging list.

I get that not every game can be a winner, and I'm not saying for studios to crank out game after game constantly or else be whipped.

But surely there has to be some sort of follow up. Some sort of manager to go "Alright, project leads, send me an email once every couple of weeks, let me know what your teams have done, any delays, etc."

And is honestly also prepared to crack some heads if needed.

Doesn't sound as apocalyptic as journotards were teasing. Sounds like no one is actually being closed?

Ninja Theory and Undead Labs is no surprise, they haven't made a good game in over a decade.

Kinda disappointed Obsidian didn't get shoaed.

Apparently they still think Bethesda can make a good game after Saarfield which doesn't shock me because everyone at Microsoft is retarded.

It's pretty apocalyptic at least.

Double Fine and Compulsion are "indie", but, neither has been successful in anything more then a decade. It's fairly common for a company in a divestiture to offload corporate responsibility for next to nothing/free just so they don't have to deal with the fallout anymore (famously happened with Barstool Sports, Dropout.tv/College Humor, or more recently Giantbomb.com).

Ninja Theory and Undead Labs being sold is also bad news - because again it's not like they have anything to hold on to. If Microsoft can find anyone to buy these - it's going to be some horrible consortium of mismanagement (ex Embracer style or just straight Tencent) that's going to pillage them for anything they're worth and then shut them down (ask Nagoshi how Gang of Dragon is going).

They all are going to die but Microsoft has set it up so they don't eat the bad press for swinging the axe. A very common corporate manuver.

Now that they are trying to get rid of all the dead weight, did the buying spree that Microsoft went on over a decade ago lead to anything significant?
The death of Xbox.

Give it another year or two, they sure as fuck aren't going to make a good game to save their skin.

They probably think Bethesda is too big to actually fail, which is good because they're going to throw even more money into that furnace and get nothing but ash out of it, thus leading to even more layoffs and closures.

I want the whole industry to either denounce gay race communism, or burn to the ground, or preferably both.

Hopefully this is a good sign from Microsoft. A shit ton of lay offs with out really closing anything down.

I think the major issue with the modern gaming woes isn't as much that they've been putting out crap, there had always been swaths of crap that we mostly forget. It's that they've been spending too much money and taking too long to put out crap.

When games take 5-7 years and 200-300 million to put out, they need everything to be a megahit to succeed. If they scale it back to 50-100 million and 2-3 years, they can find what clicks and reinvest in the sequel, while not getting completely rocked by a bomb.

That could be what cutting a bunch of staff and leaving studios standing means. They are all going to invest in getting something reasonable out in 18-24 months. But I don't trust the Pajeeta. They are probably keeping the faggots that make their games insufferable and expect H1B with AI to have 10x productivity to make the same slop cheaper.

They deserve it, but obviously they think they can still market on "The Game Studio that made New Vegas" one more time with the main writer rehired. Plus Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 probably were just unsuccessful and not complete bombs.

They should of been working on a Fallout spinoff as soon as the Bethesda purchase went through. They'd legit have a hit the second they tear the IP away from Bethesda. They could just shit something singleplayer out on 76's updated FO4 engine and as long as it was mediocre and moddable, it'd make money.

TES6 is probably the second biggest hype bubble behind GTA6. It's only a fraction, but 3rd place is so far behind I don't know if there could even be a consensus on it being at least one of five options. GTA6 has too much momentum to pop, it's failure will be if it can get the online component to have the legs of 5. TES6 definitely could though. Probably not enough to flop, but be a situation where they risked a Benjamin to make a Jackson.

Unfortunately, even TES6 losing money isn't enough to clean house on Bethesda. Fallout 4 made three quarters of a billion dollars the day it came out. Those are numbers that make CEOs retarded. Bethesda will definitely be given at least 5 years post TES6 to shit it out.

how fucked up undead lab is if ms isnt waiting for sod 3 to sell them? i enjoyed the second one for the 2 dollars i paid for it but there is no way in hell i would give them money after the trailer for 3 was full of current day shit
SOD3 is in a very hasty public alpha phase being handled through discord.

Microsoft probably saw where they were currently ~8 years in and figured they weren't even close to release so no point in trying to keep that particular ship afloat.

It does make me wonder if Undead Labs can even release SOD3 anymore, presumably when Xbox bought the company they own the IPs - unless they sold and/or licensed that back to Undead Labs, they've got an alpha for a game they can't sell anymore.

Since it has been announced that development is going to continue for SOD3, it goes without saying that there is some kind of agreement in place, either the IP being licensed back to UL or the game being published by MS once it eventually gets finished enough to ship.
