They still make 1st party titles like Doom Dark ages and Halo Infinite. They didn't abandon the market, they just did a poor job of it.

They abandoned them. They were churning out games every month back in the peak, same as Sony. Sony are just a couple of years behind following Microsoft.

I like how she started with real games but sucked at them, so she played walking simulators to boost her Gamerscore. Even that was too difficult so she used an achievement server in Minecraft to quickly get ~2000 Gamerscore. She was clearly told to make an account and spend time playing games to make her look like a gamer.

the funniest part in all of this is that jeetsoft has access to the database and they could make these achievements look way older.

They haven't abandoned them. They used to churn out games every month because the production cycle was much shorter. The inefficiency of the industry has put them on this time scale. There are 4 years between Doom releases. This is fast for the current industry. While older titles and mobile ports keep getting releases between them.

The industry is fucked. It can't make games at the pace they used to because they're split all over the place and spend too much time on busy work. But MS have been trying to pump out games as quickly as possible because it helps inflate the game pass numbers. They want a big game you sign up for and then forget you're signed up and keep paying the monthly bill. Like any subscription service they need a hook. Halo CE remake is going to suck, but saying "MS forgot their history" while they're remaking the game that put them on the map is insane. Halo studio suck, they're 343 in all but name but they're still making a Halo game. We just had a (bad) Doom game. They're one of the few studios still making core audience games and not just story games with mild open world action between.

You don't need to be a gamer to run a gaming studio. You just need to know what the market wants and hire the right people to do it. Not all gamers are good management and not all good management are gamers. Think of people like Carmack, who undeniably pushed the medium forward more than almost any one else in history. He could not handle management, the managers job is to remove road blocks so autists like Carmack can make games. If you never played a game in your life but you listen to your autists, can tard wrangle them and shield them from outside forces getting in their way you're a great manager. We've seen countless projects die because "Gamers" are in charge of them and constantly chase new features. Duke Nukem forever got in development hell because the studio lead kept playing new games and saying "We need to add that feature" over and over. Every few months the entire project would stall out because of it. Being a gamer is not essential to running a gaming company. Know what the market wants and how to get your tards to make it is essential. The issue with all of these hires is they're silicon valley types who only care about investments and scamming another idiot to invest in a project that will go no where. Being a gamer or not isn't there problem. Their problem is the modern business culture and how making a good product is considered a bad thing now. If you don't over hype and under perform your next project might REALLY under perform and then you have a problem. But if they expect a 3/10 then that's acceptable to repeat again and again. The famous Bungie quotes come from Microsoft management. They were put in charge and when the studio split from MS they stayed in charge.

Yeah. The classics only took 1-2 years to make. New vegas only took 2 years. Having QA with actual engineers and innovators to ensure proper optimization and bug free experiences would go a long way. The fact that nobody took the time to review disasters like Redfall or Avowed is telling.

Doom the dark ages was fun but it had the problem of it was trying to do way way to much. It should have been two games. Management issue here, no one to say no here. Dark fantasy melee fps and a cosmic horror shooter as separate games.

8 yeard to make a game is mostly incompetence from shitty management.

Hazelight Studios has taken only 3 years between each of their 3 games.
Then there were many AAA games that only took around 4 years to make: Gow Ragnarok, Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. All sequels, but stil it's half the time of 8 years.

They could and should refocus on smaller scope games, but it seems like everyone involved with games for PS5 & Xbox are obsessed with big budget big plays -- publishers, developers, gamers, everyone. And frankly how do you justify a new expensive console every few years without big graphical showcases? Seems like they've painted themselves into a corner.

The only think that fucking sucks about Microjeet going to shit is steam only supports the the latest version of windows so you have no choice but to use the newest Diarrhea babble code if you want to play the 2-3 yearly releases that are semi worth a shit.

Windows 7 works still fine steam apparently, but it's a mixed bag on which games it will run past the due date.
