Somebody in this subforum looked at the some of the other very high ranked players and their data made no sense - the combination of points, level, and account age just did not add up - and the conclusion was that it was either a bot or a dummy account Scopely was using to test game features. Considering how buggy the game is I'm inclined to suspect "bot".

Those accounts were obviously some sort of testing accounts or bugs, not "whale baiters". They had like 4 billion points when the top-ranked real account had like 10 million. Nobody would ever believe that was real, not even brain-fried gacha addicts.
Some of them appear to have been programming bugs where if a number goes below zero it loops back around to the highest possible value.

How are games like these even a thing. What does the mind of a person, who spends so much money on any game, look like? I couldn't do it, out of sheer principle alone, because these games are scams.

It's literally just gambling. It's, I guess, worse than gambling, because at best you'll get a digital item that's very strong, and in real gambling you could get money.

But those games are specifically engineered to hook people who are susceptible to gambling addiction, even from a young age.

There are games exactly like this for many popular franchises - Marvel, Star Wars, etc...

I would be able to understand this better if it were free, and just cost a lot of time grinding away, like a fair number of RPGs. Say what you will about WoW, but at least it doesn't cost you actual money to progress your character, just a lot of time. That can be a waste, but it depends on the person and their situation. There is NO such thing as calling this anything but wasteful. I don't care how much money you have, in fact if Phil were a multi-millionaire, you could still see him as an idiot for blowing his money on a shitty mobile game when he could be using it amass a giant wrestling collection or something. At least then he would have stuff he gets to keep.

Setting aside that I believe firmly this to be exaggerated, but you notice how his roommate manages to be less pathetic about her love of Skyrim simply by virtue of that game not costing her any money per day? No matter what we believe, she's not a genius, and doesn't have any more of an enriched life than Phil, yet even she can avoid the trap of getting hooked on an incredibly expensive hobby. And that's assuming she really does nothing but work a part-time job and come home and play Skyrim, because that image is exactly as pathetic as it would take for me to otherwise assume Katherine to be the one with a crippling mobile game addiction.

This is why I have to assume that the reason the pigroach loves this shit so much is BECAUSE of the waste of money. He knows he's throwing ten thousand dollars into a black hole every month and he enjoys every second of it.

She is so hooked that she wanted wi-fi access for her cell phone during the 2019 trip to Connecticut to get married and only got locked out because Phil messed up the purchase, bought two wi-fi passes for himself, and could not transfer one from his account to hers. At least to me it is hard to believe that a low/no spending player would shell out for airplane wi-fi and some kind of mobile game seems much more likely to me than other explanations for why she'd be so insistent on getting wi-fi for that trip.

DSP is 96th in the event where you get points by using evo tokens or Talent up Angelo.

You can only get evo tokens sparsely and you cannot level up Angelo any other way.

BUT you could spend 100 dollars and get Angelo at 4sb!

Thus, in order to be top 100 you gotta buy him for 100. Not enough money for day off?

As someone who never touched a gacha till a few months ago, some can actually be fun and it makes you wish it didn't have the paying money part.

I just can't get over the weird and absurd ways Phil is and isn't a cheap motherfucker. I know people who collect PlayStation games and, as long as they stay away from rare and sought-after ones, they don't spend much money. They do this because when it comes to their entertainment, they're cheap bastards. They spend big when they're throwing parties, buying cars, upgrading their homes, the kinds of things you SHOULD invest some real money into.

Phil is the exact opposite. He demands free intros be made for him by the very people who have already given him so much money that he should be able to afford a pro editor, or at the very least, give back some money by paying them to make said intros, and instead dumps it all into a black hole when he could easily entertain himself every day for next to nothing.

I would love a peak at a timeline wherein Phil never got so lucky with money, just to see if that variant managed to be smarter, or at the very least less smugly reckless, as a result. I can think of no more relevant circumstance in his history than the fact that he bumbled into being in the right place at the right time, and has been able to ride that (however bumpy it has been thanks to his stupidity), even to this day. Phil is not a courageous person, he relies upon being safe from consequences before he dares to say/do what he feels like, and so I cannot believe for a second that going back in time and fucking with his early YT career, in a way that cripples it, would result in zero changes. I don't expect a miracle, but he would feel it nonetheless.

It's good you point that out, for it demonstrates a flaw in my thinking, that being that even when you take one bad trait of his out of the equation, another one will take its place and ensure the same result. Meaning, with Project 7, it wasn't his assumption of the money flowing forever, but the fact that he just doesn't care about other people. He's going to be cheap with them even if he spends his life legit struggling, in fact that would probably help justify it to him then.

I retract my previous statements about this. Maybe Phil wouldn't get hooked on a mobile game, but he would fuck his life through some other means because you can't sufficiently beat all his bad traits into submission simultaneously with ANYTHING, let alone taking his gravy train away before he can even enjoy it.

Gamblers need to gamble enough for the betting to mean something to get that "rush". It's hard to compare something as stupid as gacha purchases to, say, playing poker for a living, but the pro athletes making $20 million a year who gamble don't play at the $5 tables. Part of the thrill for someone like Phil (even if he doesn't realize it) is spending enough on these games that it losing hurts a bit. If he was only able to spend $50 a week when he was used to spending $500, he wouldn't get that adrenaline rush. He also wouldn't do as well so he'd lose that clout he thinks he has.
