The purpose of masks is their visibility.
- Unlike, for example wearing a LGBTQ rainbow or a Democrat badge or whatever, you cannot avoid showing support without making a visible challenge. With everyone wearing them, to not do so marks you out as critical of the group think. It's what they have always wanted - forcing active visibility of those who don't conform.
- This feeds into intimidation. You know how a progressive will bark demands for affirmation at you in a discussion? Well it's like that except "always on", not just confined to particular discussions or environments. You are being evaluated continuously for compliant behaviour.
- It perpetuates the state of fear by being an ever-present reminder. If there weren't masks everywhere, people would forget things were bad (read into that what you will).

It's hard to gauge, especially with everyone on Twitter being a frothing lunatic, but eventually most normal people will begin to realize that the goal posts keep moving.
I know, and I have said, that I get shocked by the amount of shit that people put up with, like those crazy bitches in Canada that will put their children into solitaty confinement just because the government says that they should even if their own kids test negative. But it's important to keep in mind that they are the exception to the rule.
It's like how one day, the entire script flipped to anyone that doesn't kneel for the anthem just hates black people.

Yes but that also makes not wearing a mask into just as powerful of a message. and a good number of people in my experience wont wear a mask if they dont see others doing so as well. Its hard to feel like you fit in if you are the only one wearing a mask.
