I can't help but notice that their critique never goes any deeper than that either, which always makes my eyebrow go flying up because outside of Mainland China, the rest of the world doesn't have a visceral, knee-jerk reaction to hearing "Falun Gong" because they aren't demonized anywhere else. If the Epoch Times is such a horrible newspaper then where's all the evidence of it? Where's the stories they've fucked up, where's the stories they had to retract?

Just go look at the front page right now. All of the stories that they're presenting look perfectly normal and they're not dripping with partisanship that goes one way or the other. They can even write about Trump without veering off into seething hate or boot-licking praise. It could easily be argued that a lot of the stories that they put out are particularly critical of the Chinese Government, but that's probably less to do with them being Falun Gong and more to do with that being the general opinion of anyone who isn't drinking stupid juice.

How is it that the only "criticism" ever laid at their feet is "they're Falun Gong devils reeee" as if that's supposed to be a compelling argument to anyone who isn't living in some concrete shack in the middle of Beijing?

That's likely for the best. I think he and the captain both should have been tossed out. There were many better ways the captain could have handled that, but at the same time, he shouldn't have been put in that position to begin with. The best course of action the Navy could have taken in my opinion would have been to summon a special council with key leaders in the pentagon and medical experts, and include the captain in on the conversation, while also immediately informing the president.
