Anybody wanna take a guess on how long until they start locking down major cities? Given their lack of testing and half assed containment measures here in NY I'm waiting for the hammer to drop as soon as people start getting tested en masse (there is no fucking way in hell we have less cases than Seattle). Frankly I think half the reason the major western governments are dragging their feet on the response is so that they can first have the National Guard or their national equivalent already deployed before they enact draconian lockdown measures so people don't have a chance to chimp out.

I guess it was only a matter of time before WuFlu became partisan. Which is funny, because I'm pretty sure early into the epidemic the demographic of people following the story were right-wing.

I don’t think it will happen unless states ramp up testing and we hit Italy numbers (which I think we’re at or close too already but the cdc has botched the test kits yet again).

It seems only 1 school district in Seattle has closed, the rest are furrowing their brow and waiting for guidance from the CDC which is a fucking joke as is the WHO. Several large employers have told their employees to work from home and yet others won’t do it like Costco which is saying “out of fairness”everyone should stay at work and get sick.

What are the odds they started to feel a little better, so they got the boot, then crashed and had to be rushed back (that is to say, didn't recover at all, were just moved out as non-priority cases).

Of course it also could be they just went back to the bat soup aisle at the 500 store, 10-storey tall mall food court.

But it reinforces what we’ve been saying here - there is going to be a critical time period of probably 2-3 months where pressure on your country’s health service vastly exceeds ability to cope. If you’re severely ill in that time period hard choices will have to be made on who gets treatment. If you get sick now, or after this has peaked, you’ll be more likely to receive full care.

I haven't been posting much because I've been working my ass off trying to improve readiness here, which I assume is the nursing home capital of the US.

Basically we're fucked because of the PPE shortage and current priority for masks, which from our distributors is something like hospital > outpatient > skilled nursing > long-term care > assisted living.

At some point the nursing facilities are going to run out of masks entirely, which is going to have an immediate knock-on effect. Staff are going to quit, infections are going to spread.

Then let's say grandma gets COVID-19 and develops atypical pneumonia, so she needs to go to the hospital and be put on a ventilator. She's there for three weeks, which is quite a long time for a bed to be occupied.

But then she has recovered and needs to be discharged into a skilled nursing facility, and if many of those facilities are infected with CoV-SARS-2 then she's gonna be there for a long time. So it may be three weeks more until she's actually dc'd.

So yeah this is my greatest fear. The military can put up field hospitals but I don't know how trained they are in putting up field skilled nursing homes. If shit really hits the fan then grandma might just be discharged into the Gulf of Mexico.

Person 1 in conversation makes the valid point that only the most severe cases get reported to doctors and in the news.
Person 1 accurately states that many people will have a mild case that goes unreported and even doesn't stop them from going to work.

News and spergs (as if they were different) : "Look at this moron telling people it isn't that bad and they SHOULD (not the actual statement "will") go to work!"

Don't know what China's criteria for calling someone recovered is so I might be completely wrong, but I wonder if some of these reinfections are the result of false negatives. We've heard stories about people having 3, 4, 5 negative tests before they get a correct diagnosis, so I wouldn't think it's impossible that people are incorrectly testing negative at the tail end of the disease and then relapsing after they go home and aren't getting supportive care anymore.
 
While in some cases it's likelier it's reinfection, like the Korean woman where the gap was 5 days, others, like the 36 year old Chinese guy is pretty obvious medical error. He got two negatives in a short period of time, but already was confirmed for still having a form of pneumonia while the doctors were still checking on him and deteriorated from there. So it's more that the disease was still in his system and he wasn't being helped.
 
Sad Dick Kunt being amazing as London Mayor as always. No, the one place in London you're regularly packed like sardines and where London has the highest single set of cases in the UK (25) no, no risk at all.

Technically true, no more risk than usual.


UK Cases have now jumped by 30 to 115, and elements of phase 2 "Delay" are being enacted while still keeping large portions of Phase 1. We've also had our first death in the UK from someone with underlying health complications.

Thankfully I have those totally useless but don't buy them anyway so the doctors and nurses can have them masks and plenty of hand sanitiser.

Mostly because I am immuno compromised and while I still rarely get sick (Once a year at best, usually) I'm going to err on the side of caution as it may have underlying effects on me if I catch it, doubly so as I have to go to Hospital twice a month.
