Can't sell cheese if you aren't a cheesemaker. If no one buys the milk, for whatever reason, what can they do? They can't *force* the cheese industry to buy their products, and likely their supply chain isn't set up for it, anyway.
With all the red tape surrounding dairy, it's a wonder anyone ever manages to sell milk in the first place.

My wife and I foresaw that about a week into our state's lockdown. We miss being able to have the "I don't feel like cooking/doing the dishes, let's just go out" conversation. Right now large and local restaurants that have or found a way to do delivery/curbside service are at least still bringing in some revenue. Little hole in the wall joints are either going to have their best season after the lockdown ends (or people stop heeding it) or they will fold. Places on shaky financial ground are most likely done for.
However this turns out, I'd expect some new restaurants on Main Street alongside some conspicuous absences.

I am not sure restaurants will snap back to where they once were. Millions of people who ate McD's every single day are learning thst boiling water isn't so challenging.
That's a significant portion of restaurant clientelle who now realize they can feed themselves easily and cheaply.

Holy shit! Can't they do a GoFundMe for that or something? You'd think a government rich enough to invite millions of useless eaters to squat in their country could spare a Euro or so to feed the animals. (Or maybe they could use a few of the more useless of the useless eaters to feed the animals....)

Its just a PR move to get attention and more donations. the only animals they will slaughter in the end are the goats from the petting zoo, but they will slaughter them anyway because nobody wants to pet adult goats.

So on delivery of the various bits and bobs for working on my garden today, I found out from the delivery guy that all the quarries in the country are closed. They're delivering out pre-packed stock, but you can't get tonne bags of sand or gravel, and they're expecting to run out of all aggregates and cements in fairly short order. This stuff doesn't operate on JIT supply chains the way food and commodities does, and has relatively robust stockpiles, but those stockpiles can't last forever. Even with the truncated work schedules and most construction being shut down for the duration, we're looking at probably a good month after the lockdown ends before the supply chain for aggregates and cement gets back into gear again.

I saw an opportunity to make an arbitrage profit off it: buy up gas and store it until the prices go back up. But then I realized that you would spend more on the gas can than you would gain from the resale.
