The problem is "the flu" is essentially a family of related viruses, Influenza A, Influenza B and Influenza C themselves are all genus-level taxa which include several species of virus.
Catching "the flu" is like getting bit by "the viper". Theres a huge difference between taking a hit from a mild and painful-but-rarely-fatal Common Eurasian Adder versus a "you're probably fucked" strike from a Neotropical Rattlesnake.
H5N1 is stupidly lethal, killing around half of those who catch it (at the cost of low transmission, hardly anyone catching it); while most Influenza species & strains are going to be extremely low lethality but almost everyone catches them.

Legally? I dunno, pardons are federal level, there's 51 states worth of edge cases to play around with. Practically? No. Only thing he's going to court for is gonna be either testifying about the shit he did to bring everyone else down, or under charges for not cooperating or perjury when he lies under oath anyway.

I have some serious questions about why the new administration is so cozy with Palantir and the like, given that Alex Karp is a contemptible little twit and his company helped spy on and suppress conservative voices.
But I can’t deny the catharsis of seeing them basically obliterate USAID overnight.

Of course. At the risk of sounding utterly doompilled, I would say they’re getting rid of USAID because they don’t need it anymore. They already have a “better” mass control mechanism incoming. After all, why do you need fake charities to control people with when you have tech like this?

During that height of coronapanic, a Panda Express near me closed the inside of the restaurant. But they had a table set up at front for "curbside pickup", and IIRC one had to "practice social distancing" while wating in line to order from there. Not far away from that restaurant was a closed movie theater, with blank white panels for posters. The library in that area was also "temporarily" closed, with some lame "curbside pickup" as well. I moved out of that urban area soon after, as "The New Normal" dragged on.

I didn't follow any of the laws, as they were laws in the UK, which were put into place via secondary legislation. I carried on living my life as normally as I could do. I saw those friends who would still meet, I went to their homes. The gym was closed so I would go to a friend's to exerting her back yard and we would go running together.
The pubs were closed, my employer shut down completely. So it wasn't actually normal but I lived my life in defiance of the Law.
Does anyone else feel, half a decade on, a sense of "what the hell happened and how the fuck did it come about?". Like in the midst of it all I remember thinking and knowing the world was losing its collective shit and time has made that all the keener for me.
I remember actively avoiding watching the news because the propaganda was everywhere. But looking back on it all I feel this deep seated sense of ill ease with it all.
So much harm was done with it all. Children suffered immensely. People were whisked away to hospital and killed by being forcibly put into induced comas and onto ventilators. Old people were punted out into nursing homes and shoved down the Liverpool care pathway and onto midazolam and dehydrated to death.
People lost jobs and were forced into poverty. Domestic violence levels spiked. Kids fell out of school never to return.
And all the while the people enforcing the legislation were drinking and partying and going to orgies as if the whole thing was a lie, which it was.
Does anyone else feel, as the half decade of it all approaches , a sense of "I know where I was when this all went down" and of "I am shocked and disgusted with what we allowed to happen to us"? Or is just me? (In my defence I have worked 52 hours since 1900 Tuesday and am now off shift so it could well just be me being mega sleep deprived).

I've said it before: the whole "New Normal" BS felt more like some simulation or drill, even though the coof was a very real disease.
And if it weren't for inflated "COVID" stats, I think the coof really was not much more lethal than the regular flu. Of course, there were people who did really pass away from it, and that is bad. But how many passed on from the "totally safe and effective" coof jab, or by suicide as they lost hope of "The New Normal" ever ending? Also it is best to not forget how "vaccine hesitant" were demonized.
