SoCal Update:
Masks are around 10% in my burb - seemingly higher among the dangerhaired teens and college kids. One friend reports that "cases of an Omicron variant are up, so I'm gonna mask" and another friend is agonizing over the morality of killing people by going back to church, but everybody else is just done and doesn't want to talk Covid anymore.

Two events I'm interested in later this summer are still requiring masks and vaccine passports. I may email them in a few weeks and complain, since I'd very much like to attend but don't want to support that, and I don't think any of that is legally required anymore.

Two more friends are moving their families out of CA. One more is going to Texas, another to the East Coast. Rising prices and the fact that mortgage costs less than renting seem to be the primary instigator. My elderly neighbor cornered me in the carport last week to tell me they're raising her rent $200/mo in June and "What am I supposed to do?"

I was looking at some pictures and video from a local high school's 2021 events, and it made me sad, angry and just.. tired.
When these kids try to look back on their lives all they will see are all those masks.
20-30 years from now are they going to be able to look at these things and feel any nostalgia for their classmates? I think I would have trouble if all my old pictures had the faces covered.

Here, still see some people with masks, mostly young people and old people. I just ignore them, they can do as they please, long as they don't bother me.

Chinese Flu has been off my radar screen for a long time. With the three spinal surgeries and cancer removal in the past year, the Chinese Flu is the least of the health concerns. Would say here the rapidly rising prices of gasoline, food, and housing are far more of a concern. Gas jumped 10-20 cents/gallon today. Base still the cheapest, at $5.59/gallon for regular. Local Shell station is over $6 for regular. Wife asked me why gas was so expensive, told her Biden hated us, he cancels drilling leases for no reason. Also told her this was also on everyone who voted for Biden.

Apologies to sperg about an offhand comment, but people REALLY need to stop believing the idea that people can and do just lose consciousness casually. I think people have gotten this retarded idea from movies, hack martial artists, and especially video games with "non-lethal takedowns". The brain is not designed to go out like a light from a stiff blow to the head. If you hit someone so fucking hard they lose consciousness, they're probably dead or dying. Head injuries do not fuck around even if you remain fully conscious, and people who get them should be monitored for complications. The various "sleeper holds" and "pressure points" or whatever that knock people out are just straight fiction. They might be effective grapples in their own right (or not) but they don't knock people out. If it really were that easy to incapacitate people, real hand-to-hand fighting would be very silly indeed.

Maybe people think of losing consciousness as akin to falling asleep, but they're stages of sleep and they include levels of awareness and alertness to the surrounding environment. One does not abruptly snap into the deepest REM shit right off the bat and you can be disturbed and roused by the right stimuli (like a distressed baby). You might think losing consciousness is easily induced by drugs but things like sedation for medical procedures is actually more delicate than most give credit where things like dosage have to be "just so" for the patient. Amateurs with "date rape drugs" tend to make their victims feel shitty for days afterwards by crudely giving victims a high dosage of some junk and causing all sorts of problems for their body to achieve that lowered consciousness.

TLR: Losing consciousness is actually a fairly big deal and I wouldn't dismiss anyone who experienced it.

Recently graduated uni. We were not made to wear masks at the ceremony, which was inside. 90% of people really dropped the masks this past semester, beginning around February/March. Unfortunately my department leans woke so the actors were still made to wear masks during the plays despite no other performance group being made to wear them (it's up to the department, but they lie and say "school policy"). I am glad this charade lasted just long enough to nuke my last two years of college, but at least it got better my senior year and it looks like none of my siblings will have to deal with it in any large capacity anymore. I feel like I should get some kind of award for having to perform and entire very physical stage production while muzzled. This is ironic of course because the actors for the directing class finals weren't made to wear them...and they had the finals in the exact same space as both theatrical productions.

Every time I see a "ZOMG PLEASE GET VAXXED!!!" post on Boomerbook from the WHO or CDC the comments are always filled with people calling out the bullshit.

*Masks against covid are worse than doing nothing, because they instil a false sense of protection. They're a totemic statement of faith in "The Science"; a religious amulet, worn to ward off a poorly understood, ill-defined evil force, rather than for a rationally understood purpose. If people wearing their masks understood why they were doing so (preventing an airborne disease from spreading) they'd at least make an effort to seal the things to their faces instead of letting air flow around the sides and tops. The fact that a typical covid mask causes glasses to steam up should have been a huge hint that they weren't serving the claimed purpose.

And, on top of that, scientifically proven ways to reduce the chance or severity of infection, such as losing weight, going outside, making sure to get enough zinc & vitamin D, were deemed "misinformation," probably because they don't make people suffer needlessly.

You know what's funny? That turns out to be a totem too, at least in modern hospitals. As long as you're not sneezing/spitting on the patient, and as long as the surgery has its vent fans set up according to code, masks appear to have no effect on surgical outcomes.

The gist is that the surgeon is usually far enough away that the natural ventilation of a well air conditioned room draws the particles from their breath away from the patient.

Masks are just splash guards for the surgeons. No one wants blood splatter in their mouth.

Anyway why the law? It's becoming hard to ignore the unbelievable amount of work place sickness in the vaxxed (especially the boosted). It's fine, no one is allowed to talk about it in polite company, but over time employers will start kicking up a stink, especially in places like the US where they're on the hook for health care costs. Like people did all sorts of other bullshit that got revealed later--it'll propel the career of some future historians/academics who make the "novel" argument that what these threads have been saying was correct the entire time and we may have made a mistake, so we better set up a bunch of committees to study this so we don't do this again. I expect this will be anytime from 30 - 100 years from now. At worst this will be the way the scamdemic is taught in colleges, but nobody ever pays attention in those gen ed classes so people repeat the misconceptions about history like "lockdowns and mask mandates were necessary and saved countless lives, and the vaccines worked great for a product rushed out so fast."

But hopefully best case scenario is that the generation scarred by this considers it equivalent to World War I which was widely looked on as bullshit that got a bunch of people killed over fuck all. I doubt it though, since you still get banned from most places for posting scientific facts about the scamdemic.
